What Are Bras Really For? 

I am a teenage girl who hates bras to the core. But living in a rural area is forcing me to wear a bra 24/7 {even at my house}. Just like many other things I refused to follow this rule. Therefore Iam one of the most talked about rebel child in my family. Did you guys know that the girls in my area are untouchable during menstruation? It hurts when someone around you treats you like that.

tired of seeing comments like: "oh I like wearing a bra, am I not a feminist?" or "so to be a feminist I can't wear a bra?" first of all: wear a bra or don't. that's not related to you being a feminist at all. the problem is with OTHER PEOPLE (men, especially) telling you to wear one. So please, if you like wearing a bra, keep it to yourself. It is NOT an unpopular opinion. Liking or not liking bras does not make or break your feminism. Be a feminist by letting others do whatever they want.

I literally cried the first time my mom forced me to wear a bra, because I thought it would be uncomfortable, but now it's reverse, I feel uncomfortable if I'm not wearing a bra

I recently came across this post on fb saying something like:- "Wearing a mask should be compulsory Wearing a bra should be not Free the titties Protect the cities" And honestly, I couldn't have agreed more to this :D

The simple point is Wear it only if YOU wanna wear it. Not because nipples "distracts" Men, not because mummy said so, ONLY BECAUSE YOU WANT TO

The point is not whether we like bras or not. The point is our choice. I need to wear bras because I have big breasts and without bra it becomes very uncomfortable. But then it's MY CHOICE when I want to wear it and when not to. If I don't feel like wearing it some time, a man shouldn't force me to just because he thinks it's offensive. For eg yesterday I was braless because my shoulders were paining and my father literally called me "senseless" "no brains idiot etc etc and many more Hindi slangs. I was forced to wear a bra by him even though he knew I was having shoulder pain and yes it hurt a lot.

I think I am kinda lucky that I don't wear bra when I am at home, even when my dad is present because he has always respected our choice of dressing, and wearing a bra all the time is actually suffocating. And I have stopped wearing bra at home since 8 years now. So I feel more comfortable without it.

Here is a thing people will definitely find not relatable at all: I actually am ok with wearing bras, and I usually feel uncomfortable not wearing it

I usually don't wear bra during winter season. There are five ,six layers of clothes in my body that i dont have to worry about my nipple.And its so comfortable. I go college, market everywhere like that😅

I mean, I like bras. Running or even doing daily tasks without one is just so inconvenient and sometimes even painful (if you know what I mean). I think the point of focus should be normalising breastfeeding in public :) You know, what boobs are intended for.

Being a doctor myself...will tell that 1. It's advisable to wear bra as soon girl hits puberty for proper growth of breasts during that adolescence 2.Advised in cases of mastalgia to decrease pain as breast while being saggy increases pain 3.Wearing bra during gymming or sports is necessary as it avoids breasts becoming saggy early as it prevents the unnecessary stretch of the ligaments of Cooper... Its important for better shape and growth I agree that they are uncomfortable but saying they are not at all advisable is false!

*Unpopular opinion alert* Well, I prefer bra outside my home and prefer going braless in home. *I genuinely don't think choli was meant to 'control' breast enlargement eventually controlling our sexualization, rather meant to control or minimize the 'bounce'.* I say this because I could relate.. and I prefer bra outside (more accurately, while socializing) because it helps minimize the bounce as well as gives it a *better shape*. Some of us have average sized breasts hence they are *better positioned* (I'd say). #FreeTheNipple ultimately and solely remains to be the *FREEFOM OF CHOICE*. I’ve never thought about it that way actually. Some men wear a vest under their t shirt... some dont. I dont think you should be forced to wear something that you find uncomfortable. In the end, its your choice.

I think it went too far . Bras are not bad , in fact bigger breasted girl like myself feel more comfortable wearing a bra than without . The point is not to prove that rhey only represent the drive of society to control us or our sexuality. Its more about the thought of being rigid that bras should be worn be women wven if they dont want or need them . Its ur choice to wear or not to , but dont judge people by it and also dont force ur opinion on someone else . Also , it is not that every girl who wears a bra is wearing it because shes told to , and not all are relieved to not wear one .

Bras are helpful, i haven't been wearing bras during quarantine and that made my boobs sag but wearing a proper perfect bra for a week make it go back to its shape. I mean come on now I really cannot run around without a bra it hurts so much lol. That being said I don't think bras control my sexuality and also I understand the point of the video. WEARING A BRA BEING A CHOICE AND I AGREE WITH THAT, but bras not being helpful is bullcrap.

*Before this comment dissappears into the sea of comments here, please u must read it* This is your first video i disagree with, just talking about negatives of a bra and not the advantages. You talked about the the health risks of wearing a bra but didnt mention it supports the breast which is very essential to maintain its shape, prevent sagging and prevent the tissues from damaging due to excessive bouncing by lack of bra and its true for any size from 32 to above. While its true that even wearing bras 24/7 is not good it has hown been related to breast cancer but ditching bras altogether is also harmful. I myself didnt wear a bra at all since this April to this August and even i used to think that bras r very uncomfortable before that, but now when i finally started wearing one, it feels better since there is less bouncing which used to hurt and now less discomfort too. The key is to find the perfect size and type of bra fit for ur breast shape. And going braless in public is also ok if the dress is fine but freedom is NOT synonymous with indecency and decency is not gender specific.. just like baggy jeans which show half of the underwear of guys is not so eye pleasing the nipples perking through the dress is also not. I dont even mean not wearing crop tops and all guys its ok but there's a line between freedom and indecency ..would u call a tight leggings on a guy through which u could see his balls and dick freedom or indecent? Im not saying u should not go braless outside at all but atleast take care of the top u r wearing, like in one image in this video the girl is just wearing a net see through shirt.. Its adviced to not wear bra at night but dont ditch bra altogether coz thats also harmful!! Just saying that bras objectifying women is wrong by saying that bra is a replacement of corsets do u even know that apart from making waist smaller the corsets prevented sagging, thats why when ppl stopped wearing corsets due to its harm to waist and body, ppl started to wear bra because now no corsets meant no support to breasts also. Bras for me is a necessary most girls wear them because they’re big breasted, I am not, I have quite small breast. But I get really bad chest pains most of the times if I’m not wearing one and I don’t like when my breast moves when I’m walking it feels so uncomfortable for me. But it is still my choice to wear it. And I started to find bras that are comfortable for me to wear. There are so many different types of bras now maybe find something which suits you maybe you will find something for you. But if you don’t want to wear one your choice. Going bra less at night is what I do. I cant sleep in them.

Saggy breasts are my biggest nightmare. And I think in growing years, teenage and young adulthood, we need them to prevent breast deformity. I've let go off the practice of wearing a bra, and it really turned into a nightmare, the bulges, the pain in breasts, sagginess. I think we should look at the bright side of bras and just wear non wired bras to help ourselves. Totally cancelling them is bad for us. And it's upto us how we take it. I never took it as a sexuality curb because bra or no bra, breasts do get bigger. It's only a matter of saggy or plump.

I never got a bra during my teenage years. I remember someone asking me where I buy my bras and I said I don't wear any which amazed her.I started wearing bras regularly after I had kids because pregnancy and/or breastfeeding really changed the "perkiness". After lots of trials and errors I have a couple of comfortable and fit bras.I can even sleep in them (but I don't).I have seen old ladies with no bras underneath and frankly, that's not a look I would go for. As for the ladies in the western film, music or fashion industry going braless, they either get boob jobs or wear tapes or both. Look at Jennifer Aniston. Kids or no kids, an average woman does not have such perky breasts at the age of 50 or above. I really don't think wearing or not wearing bras has got anything to do with femenism. Maybe you could a video on breast augmentation.

Hello everyone. Let's talk about some sense. Generally we as humans are physically sensitive about our private parts, be it a male or a female. So therefore undergarments are there to keep them safe from public exposure. Simple as that. Yes it's importance vary from person to person but in general terms that is it's (undergarments) sole purpose. And when i hear people relating freedom with silly things like, by not wearing undergarments publicly your attaining some kind of freedom then i really feel sorry for you. Lockdown made me realize that going braless was akin to heaven. Previously I too thought that bras were necessary and I used to feel uncomfortable not wearing them. I even went to sleep wearing bras. But backache made me lose it and I can proudly say that I am super comfortable going braless these days.

My mother forced me to wear bra when I was just 12 years old. Back then I rebelled a lot for this and finally my mother agreed with me. But due to pressure of society I have to wear it even though I hate wearing bra to the core of my heart.

Also the concept of going braless in west is just a different way of showing that boobs aren't meant to be just hidden beside a piece of cloth they are beautiful and amazing ....it would be highly uncomfortable wearing a dress without a bra ...because the dress could be of any material leading to itching and rashes ...that is why women wear bra for a cover to protect itching; rashes, etc

But when a working woman goes bra-less, she is going agsinst her designated role in everyday society - hence is decried and condemned. And I want to add - regarding how much skin show on the red carpet is "too much" - the line that divides the 'glamourous and classy' from the 'slutty' - keeps varying with time, and also place. Hence, Oriyanka Chopra has different 'guidelines' for cleavage show and neckline depending on whether she is posing on the red carpet at the Oscars or the Filmfare awards.

This is extremely relatable. But, I feel that bras being introduced just to control our sexuality seems a bit off. I think corsets were introduced earlier to hold up the boobs of women who were probably cup D or E and it later transitioned to other women to accentuate their silhouette. Few years later - enter bra! Even though the reason for introducing corsets were genuine, the bra industry, as it grew took advantage of the market, transitioning it into a medium of control of a girl's sexuality. However there are positive sides, as I mentioned earlier, people with huge breasts sizes or people who play sports may need bras. We just need more people developing better designs and positive attitudes towards such commodities and not completely ditch them in the name of patriarchy. Thanks for bringing up this narrative!

This sounds exactly something an elite high class person who have never had to use public transportation would suggest. The bra is there so that everytime the overcrowded bus or auto hits a pothole at fullspeed the breasts don't jump amock and give you the third degree. It also helps to run and excercise the same way men's briefs do. And it also helps avoid chaffing around the nipples and the only reason why women runner's nipples don't bleed. Also it helps with women with heavier figure reduce backpain. But clearly this doesn't sound the kind of bra burning feminism that you people are advocating here.

After reading a few comments I feel lucky. I don't really like bra and I don't wear them unless I'm not doing exercise or something. The person who give me courage for going braless is my MOM. I'm so blessed to have a family who respects my choice.

Unnecessary discussion , in West it has been seen they don't have had big boobs so it's fine to walk around braless , which you can do in india also . But if you have heavy boobs it's dam uncomfortable have too much weight feeling . So bra is not to control sexuality or to keep our self away form feeling uneasy.

Briefly lived in a tribal village for some research work and learned that the tribal/ indigenous women experience and enjoy the freedom of their body to the fullest! There is no bra concept for women, in the community they just wear a saree in their style by tying a knot in one shoulder. Super comfortable 😌
