Welcome to the first video in my new series on the runes! The runes are an integral part of Norse Magick so of course I had to cover this topic!
We'll start out in this video with some general information on the runes - What are the runes? What is the Futhark? What do we know about the runes and rune reading? Also I will give you some recommendations on books and RU-vid Channels on the runes.

Note: the elder futhark was no longer in use during the viking era. By then, they had transitioned to the younger futhark. And there are Swedish, Icelandic, and many other rune rows.

I’m actually about to make my own runes (the ones I bought never spoke to me) I found some rocks by a river I live next to but before I do I wanted to find all I could about the history and such so I’m looking forward to this series! Love your videos ✨

I love your interpretation of the runes on a deep level but personally i utilize the elder futhark and younger futhark in my practice for spiritual guidance and readings but overall your interpretation is deeply appreciated even though there are people out there in Midgardr who claim to be rune masters and experts is just mind boggling to say the least with respects but we are all learning together with the community that we have available to us and beyond.

I have never had much success using Runes for divination. Instead I use semi precious polished stones . The way the stones land on a black cloth with a 7 pointed star and each point of the star represents different aspects of life and then factor in the metaphysical properties of the stones for additional depth and meaning

I am a beginner with the Runes and still learning, I am also a newly practicing witch, forging my own path. Doing research on traditional pagan and Norse and shamanistic practices in order to learn the history in traditional manner of magic. Thank you for giving me this information as I learn much faster visually than I do reading. I also appreciate the disclosure of not being a archaeologists and whatnot...

I recently became interested in runes and am really looking forward to more videos from you about them! I picked up Northern Mysteries and was not aware of the author’s problematic views. I’m not sure the shop owner I bought it from knew either, she told me the author was very well known as the most knowledgeable of the runes and their use in language. Listening to your video has made me realize I need to learn about the runes from more than one source.

Oh yeah learning from more than one source and especially also making your own experiences with the runes is so important! I own 6-7 books about the runes now and 4 books say dramatically different things about the meanings, it’s insane 🤣

I had the same exact experience, the bookshop owner told me Northern Mystery is the best book, the one more complete with information. I’m currently reading it and honestly it makes me want to step away from runes. The “evil” use of runes depicted in the book kinda scare me and I’m afraid things will be turn back on me or be dangerous to me. Let me say I’m only interested in runes divination as I’m not into spells. Did you guys had the same experience? I’d love to know your opinion on that! Thanks ❤

Thank you for giving the heads up about which rune sets to avoid! I recently bought a rune set and have been looking into runes but the anxiety about accidentally getting ones that are made up and associated with the wrong things has been rampant. Another great way to read books whose authors you don't want to support - check your local library! For the Thorssen books, being fairly popular, they may be pretty easy to find there! A great opportunity to support public libraries!! :)

Great video! 💕 Especially in Germany you really have to be careful which books about runes etc. you buy because many are from Kopp (Publishing Company)🤢 I recently bought "Nordische Magie" by Nerthus von Norderney and I'm very curious what I can learn from it. Thank you for this, I haven’t bought any runes yet , like someone else mentioned I have been thinking about making my own from clay possibly so they have an even deeper connection or yes I will paint them on to some of the stones I have collected. I do also have a recomendation for begining with the runes (The Beginners Guide to Runes Divination and Magic with the Elder Futhark Runes) by Josh Simions it gose over a decent anount of the basic history, making your own runes, pulling runes verses readings, and other areas aswell, the also includes a full index of the runes and additional resourses in the last few pages

Hi Bente! Do you believe runes have reversed meanings as well? I’m trying to do some research on if they were traditionally used with upright and reversed meanings, depending on how they fell. There’s a lot of different information out there about it. I feel like they aren’t meant to be either good or bad. I think they are meant to represent both sides at once. For instance, Fehu represents wealth and prosperity, but it can also serve as a reminder to share your success and not allow money interfere with relationships! Some people say Fehu in reverse means loss, greed or bad luck.

I agree with you! I personally don’t know of any primary sources that talk about reversed rune meanings and I personally also don’t use them.
