@@Dilanom That's because of current USDOT regulations. They did begin a pilot program to have certain highways to allow road trains like you Aussies have though, you should expect these older engines to shine once they allow road trains like down under.

the pre-emission C15, N14 and Detroit 60 were the best IMHO.

Gen 2 ISX is a much better engine than the N14 & just as simple

My 6nz just blown the head gasket @ 1.311,689.

Lol, my dad worked at a dealer in the 70's and 80's. Talked about that same thing. Told me the dealership's truck (3408) had it's fuel screw backed all the way out, and the driver would run it by keeping an eye on the pyro. It worked well until apparently a state trooper clocked him doing 70 while pulling a D9.

3126 is a great little engine. I had a 3126 330 in my straight job and had no problems. loved it.

on the other hand the c7 is garbage lol.

David S look into a Volkswagen diesel. Yeah they were a bit sketchy with emissions but if you look past that they are crazy reliable engines that get high fuel mileage.

@@markm0000 My sister has one and takes crazy good care of it but it never doesn't have a check engine light. Unfortunately we live in a state where that is a really big pain in the ass and the dealer is always super expensive. I don't think I can afford that hassle. I'm sure they're not all like that, but I hear a lot of them are.

David S I'm basing my knowledge off the older models from 2008~ish. I'm sure the newer stuff has more electrical problems as most new Volkswagens do. Unless you've got a mechanic friend I would stay away from German cars.

Hey my friend I'm looking at buying and older Diesel Pusher one thing I've learned is in the early 2000s c12 cat put nylon plugs to keep the wrist pins in the Pistons,,,,, a lot of those engines went in motorhomes and they would self-destruct magnificently breaking the block around 50,000 miles,,,, Cat knows about this and they've isolated it to a serial number run on c12 2001 - 2005,,,, motorhome manufacturers just buy a bunch of motors and they sit around for years sometimes so I would check the serial number,,,, well some people say there are problems outside of the known bad serial number run but rare,,,,FYI,,,p.s. also those engines suffered from weak wrist pin metallurgy,,,, all this information is known you can do some Googling on RV forums,,, I'm looking to buy a diesel pusher around 2000 to 2006 to avoid emissions crap so I've been spending a lot of time educating myself on these engines,,,, hope you got one outside of that production run happy and safe travels

The c12 was a throw away motor all the big fleets sell them when they come out of warranty at less than 600k miles they turn the cam bearings and oil pressure breaks the oil pump leading to catastrophic engine failure rods through the block etc.

Probably in the future, but the short answer is the 3406B is a full mechanical great engine. The 3406C is a 3406B with some electronic junk bolted onto it to screw it up. You can actual turn a C into a B and eliminate some problems.

Mechanical 3406C started at 3ZJ16182 and up, 5KJ07800 and up. PEEC 3406C engines 4CK00846 and up. I have not worked on or seen a 3406C 5KJ. Most of the time a emissions change was fixing to occur, thus injection psi starts going up. Not in all cases, but emissions is the driving force. A video would be worthless, its all about if emissions laws are meet . You can go forwards, stay the same year but you can't go backwards. One word EPA. Changing a PEEC to a Mechanical is illegal and the word is EPA. Can it be done, yes. If your caught, EPA. Fine roughly $37,500 or higher if I work on them. Not worth it to me. So basically timing was played with, (fuel) nozzles, (air) turbo, what ever was needed to meet emissions or getting ready for the next big change. Take the last mechanical 3406C built in North America the 8PN. A dog engine just to meet emissions. A lot of carbon was allowed pass the rings and into the oil pan to meet emissions. On mechanical engines you had two dimensional timing, RPM's vs degrees of advance. With the introduction of electronics you went to a three dimensional timing. Thus electronics and EUI's had to come out for CAT to meet emissions. Today common rail is needed to meet emissions. Hate to be rude but making this type of video you would have to see emissions laws around the time frame. Also you would have to see what parts replaced that was emissions related. Which HP and RPM rating would you use? A lot of combinations was available.

Is there any sealant you can use to prevent leakage between the spacer plate ? I know that "Old Timers" used PERMATEX NON HARDENING sealant on head gaskets on old Cat bulldozers to seal them ! You can reference this @ ACMOC " Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club" website ! Glen.

caliwator I would take them to a shop sooner than later you might have a more serious problem.

Our Cat gear shop at work sells them, they seem to only be in certain dealers though.

Yea no shit sherlock this dude is a cat mechanic obvi every fan boy is over here 6nz and c15s baby! Obviously there great motors in big rigs, do you even know anything about them? Were talking about all motors ,reliability, durability, longevity, power, yes 3406e is great and obviously that an 6nz are the big dogs in the cattle and coal trucks. Awesome. at a mechanic standpoint that doesn't make it the best motor due to every big rig cool ass truck having it, were talking real craftsmen ship and alot of reasons these motors are great other than sounding badass straight piped and and power houses. Damn

Not much difference between a 2WS and a 6NZ, great engine. Doesn't sound like you need a rebuild from what you describe.

Adept Ape would you be willing to do a rebuild in the future? Where are you located? I’m in Salt Lake City, Utah and I haven’t found a good, honest, mechanic that knows these engines. I have watched every single video that you have and you have a talent. I would be honored if you did my rebuild when the time comes.

You have the best engine 3406E or C-15 are the same with just a few differences between the 2, I've had them all, my (personal opinion) #1 CAT 3406E or C-15/ 6NZ #2 DETROIT S60 12.7 L #3 Cummins Again I've had them all.

2ws is just as good as 6nz, and arguably has a stronger block than the sculpted 6nz block
