here we are, the meta changes for sunbreak TU2, i had a lot of fun messing around with status but its been a real challenge to calculate so if anyone sees something confusing just ask and i'll explain in the comments.
I've just noticed a mistake i've made while setbuilding, i've accidentally used my archfiend legs rather than a generic +1 skill, the only thing this changes is that is makes handicraft 4 more difficult to get onto the remobra set, the 4 levels are important to maintain purple sharpness for a significant part of the area so if you can't fit it in your set pukei will be a better choice for those matchups.
once again i want to remind everyone that this stuff will change in value according to you're own charms/augments. these sets are 99% of the way there for you but the nature of the game is that you'll need to do your own fine tweaking.

agreed, having the ranking of skills to optimize for depending on your lance playstyle (normal guard, instablock, evade, wirebug, etc ) could also be nice

Small counterpoint and addition to multiplayer poison, poison starts counting towards next instance from when the previous goes off only needing a single proc when full and the previous drops. However some effects related to applying poison like chameleos only work when you specifically apply the final proc so that's probably the biggest deal killer.

Heya! Loving the commentary for Lance and as a Lance main, I like what i see, here's some things i want to couch on: Negative Affinity- There's the Brutal Rampage Deco that will give increased damage from negacrits. Something to think about when augmenting for Crit on Negative Crit lances... Meta- I like to see those use the meta for what they can do. Me personally, I'm going to do what i do and find some, interesting sets to have a unique experience with lance. But good to know of the meta currently for when i need to speedrun. Caveats- I like that you go through a in-depth explanation about status. that with the charts help a lot overall!! You gained a new subscriber. Keep up the good work...

Brutal Strike isn't worth it if you're going for absolute speed kills - you're better off maxing out Critical Eye to turn the negative affinity positive. You can still get regular "negative crits" with Brutal Strike, but using Critical Eye and/or Weakness Exploit removes that chance entirely.

Sure, WE will mitigate the need for Brutal strike, but if your build isn't the meta, if you don't invest in building for parody, it's not going to be good overall. Though, I will agree that there's still the chance of Brutal Strike whiffing more often than not. I feel that just mitigating the Neg Affinity is a bit of a hassle if you're going to use such a lance.

For me, intrepid heart is a lot more valuable skill to me. This skill allows you to have hyper armor for any move that needs it like skyward thrust. You can spam this move until you are caught once. For certain monsters, this move was so useful and the damage was big .

I’ve been enjoying a grinder(s) + protective polish build with the lucent poison and scorned maglamalo blast lance. Got the idea when I rolled grinder(s) on the violet mitsu legs. Gives me two 10% raw damage buffs.

Been enjoying these videos, with lance as my melee wep of choice when I'm not min maxing bowguns. Was just curious if you, or any other content creators you know, have made like a "Lazy Sunday" build with a heavy Guard/Embolden setup on those days where you just want to shut the brain off, pop an audiobook/podcast on, and just be the unmovable object on farms?

I definitely love this armor set for charge blade. Mix it with silver for element exploit and use its for elemental cb and elembane as a rampage slot is a nasty combination.

I'm pretty sure that the flaming espinas lance has 24 poison. How did you compare the lances to find the best one for every MU? did you calculate dps with a specific comb? did you use armor skills or just the weapon? yeah and one thing elemental lance has gotten in this update is the burst deco

To your question about your "How to optimize armor sets": Yes. I would love to see your take on this since I sometimes struggle hard when it comes to optimizing my damage but I don't have x-charm or don't want to use x-skill. Now to the poison buildup in multiplayer: Do you assume that a player who runs with poison has an uptime of 100% per hunt? Wouldn't that be hard for an average player? I always thought that 2 players running poison would get around 100% but I might be very wrong thinking about it now, actually. Would love to have more insight on this.

Great questions! I'm not assuming poison has a 100% uptime. i've taken the number of status hits a lance does per second multiplied by the amount of poison dealt by the lance, then we plug that into each monster's status resistances. With a bit of fine tweaking that gives us how much poison we get over the hunt. With the current builds you're already getting close to 100% poison when the monster is really susceptible (thinking of kushala) but Status in multiplayer is really tricky because the monster's resistances to poison rise as the number of players increase.

looks like you arrived at more or less similar conclusion with dreamsuntide's lance calc. Now I wonder if stats build is better in SnS and Strength/Courage hammer as those weapons have more raw compared to element.

Main problem I’m facing is how to balance between adding attack boost and sharpness management skills, been using the gaismagorm lance for the most part just to keep a maxed out build of att 7, crit eye 7, agi 5,wex and boost 3, off guard 3 and 2 points of embolden, with one point of guard and guard up for comfort. If I were to use another lance I’d be giving up a bunch of attack boost to fit in handi and masters or polish, so what’s the cut off point to how much management to attack would I be going with? For reference, using the Kaiser helm, fl esp chest, and rest is viol mizu with a crit eye 3 and a 2 slot charm. And thank you for all your hard work good sir

You may just consider going with valstax lance for big white. It also has a 2 slot so you can just throw in something like burst(chain crit) for free or razor/masters. Yes it has 10 less raw and no purple. But purple is only 5% increase in this game. And the extra 20% affin when you add in crit boost comes out to and 8% boost in damage which puts it really close to the exact same raw with more comfort. (Although agitator uptime may change that a tiny bit since Val lance goes into 105% affin which is a small dps loss) None of that is even taking dragon weakness into account which it has 27 more naturally and that only goes up when dragon gems are added to it. Just a suggestion tho. The differences are minimal. Also if your set has any 4 slot spots the most effective use of it is probably a level4 razor sharp or masters touch charm then you can put the last point in the Valstrax lance. You may have to go with attack boost 4 or 5 instead of 7 but either lance you use will be much more comfortable with it. Hope this gave you some ideas. And if you are able to get attack boost 5 with razor 3 it would be around a 4.25 % damage loss however if you are not getting hit a lot and staying Aggro on the monster you will be able to do that for twice as long potentially not needing to sharpen at all. That’s all I can say. The rest is based off your preference.

I play very aggressive guard dash play style with anchor rage, so I’d burn through my sharpness plenty, especially on arena stages. As for my armor pieces, I’ve gotten very lucky with the crafting rolls so I am able to fit in att 7. Once again thank you for the info my man

Isnt it worth in some cases to run the Silver Rath chest vs elem 20+ hitzones? I havent done the math on this so i'm just wondering (same thing for elembane deco). Maybe vs Rajang head or smth Also i woud like to see a set optimization video, seems like a cool idea with these video formats

Elembane is only for 25+ hitzones. In the scenarios where they have those hitzones, usually just more than one or in a way that you are confident you can stick to that hit zone, it’s always worth it in that scenario

At least imo. I rarely run elembane unless it’s like 3 or more hitzones lol I’d rather consistently get the 5% if I’m not confident in what I’m using, but I never switch out my silver rath chest, I’ll just maybe try to Aug it better for a match up. My set pages are almost full I can’t afford to make one for every weap/monster lol

Since it’s less efficient when multiple people bring Poison into a hunt… what’s the consensus on Blast? I’ve had my eye on Bazel Rooksearer and Devil’s Deliverance for a little bit now, and I’m wondering if I could possibly get those to compete.

Blast is viable but it doesn't compete with poison. The damage it does just isn't strong enough for master rank and it doesn't proc much afterwards with it having the highest resistance build up. This was a similar issue in MHW too but blast weapons just happened to be the strongest raw weapons in the game for a time where raw was the best so blast was just a small bonus. In both games blast weapons and poison weapons don't have major compromise in raw and/or sharpness Currently, poison greatly benefits from chameleos blessing being a level one deco and whenever you have the opportunity to do damage when its procced with foray as well . Bazel lance is the preferred lance if you're going for blast.

it is not swapped with crit eyes but to use those 4 2 slots deco with something that increases more damage. AB4 gives you 5% damage which means 1 deco only gives you a 1+% attack.

Anyway, interesting findings on Buildup Boost. Not that I think you're lying, but I honestly still have a hard time actually believing all of your findings. For example, it blows my mind that a Pukei or a Remobra lance could be the best possible lances to use against a bunch of monsters that are weak to thunder. Then again, facts don't care about my feelings. Maybe if I actually try out these status setups in the coming days, I'd have an easier time believing them. I play mostly solo anyway, so the benefits of status are definitely going to be felt in my hunts.

I threw all my "meta" gear in the trunk for Embolden. Embolden 3+Guard 5+GU 1 lets you Leaping Thrust through every attack in the game except Flaming Espinas' nova and Valstrax's dive bomb. Moves you couldn't always punish with insta-block because of distance or timing, or couldn't counter at all because of flinch like affliction burst and strong fireballs, are now massive openings for the weapons' best combo.

Using Bloody Jewel also means you're losing out on an anti-species decoration. So that's a ton of damage you're missing out just so that you can force yourself to get hit and try to make the best of that damage boost while in bloodblight status. You have no reason to use it on any weapon (not just lance).

I stayed with Valstrax lance since RNG augments and the charm I have doesn't allow Remobra, Pukei or Fame Espinas lance to work for me. Valstrax however lets me have Guard 5, Guard Up and enough offensive skills with the new armour pieces. Can't fit Embolden though. I did manage to roll the final point of Offensive Guard on Violet legs which gives me three points in just that piece.
