I LOOOOOVE this change to crafting! Crafting was such a joke in the past two expansions. I think blizz took a page from the popularity of Classic and is returning to the ways of old. I know some people will hate the grind but the grind is what makes it feel special to make your own items AND what makes it special to sell something for a lot of gold to the impatient ones =D
15 year old me went Jewelcrafting in MoP to make the jeweled panther mounts, and yet I never made them all these years later. Wish I could go back and slap him
Baw, they were a waste of time/gold on my server. There are just too many people that don't know how to undercut properly in wow. This week, you can gather mats, craft that mount, and make a sweet 10k in profits. Next week, thanks to those "brilliant price slashers" , you'd probably be lucky to make 250g in profits. And it only gets worse as more people learn those recipes .
Mage main - alchemy/enchanting (in case I only have time to play the one character) Priest - Tailoring/Inscription (to supply main and main alt with legendary stuff) Death Knight - Blacksmithing/Goblin Engineering (DID racial) Rogue - JC/Gnomish Engi (lockboxes, pickpockets, all things shiny) Those are my first four characters, one for each covenant. That just leaves a hunter and druid for rounding out the other professions. Hunter - Skinning/LW Druid - Mining/Herbalism dual gathering This set up means I have every profession covered. The only "extra" toon to level up specifically for legendary stuff is my hunter to give the rogue legendary materials. Every other alt will have herbalism and either mining or enchanting to funnel more mats to my crafters. If all else fails and I only have time for my mage, then I'll just use alchemy and enchanting to make gold and buy my legendary stuff. Mage also has portals and other farms for gold if I need it.. Also picked races that complement my profession choices (such as the DID racial for blacksmithing). I enjoy efficiency, but games like WoW make me want to have at least one of everything, so this is the best way I have found to do that on the least amount of characters as possible
Ive been eng mining on like all my chars since tbc but only worked on it on my rogue since tbc 😹 Profs are such a waste of time. Mining for extra xp while lvling that’s it.
Ditto. Been an engineer since Burning Crusade ^_^ also im very very poor. And always have been. But I'm sure that's not related in any way, shape, or form.
I find worth keeping gathering professions on most active characters so I can gather while waiting for queues for PvP or waiting for raid to form:). So crafting goes mainly for alts
Multiboxers will probably drive the price of herbs and ores way down, I don't think there's ever been this many multiboxers at the start of an expansion.
this expansion is going to be interesting with the incredible amounts of muntiboxers that will be farming . Venezuelan farming houses emerge last exp so this is the first begining of expansion with hundreds and hundreds of multiboxers farming to survive the comunism xD
I’m an spriest and I took eng back in wotlk for Jeeves and the general QoL items like moll-e and such during raid, it’s nice not to have to a reusable auto hammer that you can vendor your trash to as well, and in bfa when they gave us a brez I really enjoyed that, getting to brez the druid healer in a key or something, nitro boost is nice too esp as a not so mobile class. I’ve felt pretty underwhelmed with what we have in SL for eng so far though, still gonna keep it for the brez, Jeeves, etc, but I think I’ll be a bit happier when they give us the blingtron for SL to craft lol. My favorite thing to do is to go to Oribos and place them all over the map so people may think “oh man, what are all these new daily quests?!” ...or pop them all at once and watch them fight to the death for my amusement.

I think Enchanting mats will be super expensive this time around, just because the main way I got them was DE'ing loot in M+ seeing how they have nerfed that pretty spectacularly... they will be harder to come by.
@@jav1373 Pelagos has a soulbind that causes mobs to have x% (wowhead lists 10%) to drop a bag of cloth/enchanting mats - and those bags do drop lots of that enchanting dust needed for the legendary base item mats. Other covenants drop bags with other resources.
Running Skinning + Enchanting on monk. Will be somewhat handy although for max benefit Bastion Pelagos soulbind would be needed for extra enchanting mats (and cloth).
Only problem with enchanting at the moment is that to get to highest level you need to use at least 10 of the orbs to make scrolls which sell for a lot less on AH. So it is a big gold hole to be able to make those higher level items...
I would love for WoW to update professions to allow for 3 instead of the 2 we have now....I say this mainly because my main is an engineer and I always seem to have to buy the skinning mats as I am mining....I dunno I just think it would be nice to be able to have a farming toon with all the gathering professions.
Alt-crafters all the way. Four twinks are planned at least, to cover Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Enchanting, Inscription. A sixth one for Jewelcrafting, a bit later on. My main will go Herbalism / Alchemy.
My druid has been herbalism/inscription since inscription was added to the game (I just really love inscription thematically), and I'm not planning to change that probably ever, even if it becomes bad one day. I still haven't completely settled on my second main (I usually play two mains about equally) for this expansion, but it's either gonna be priest with tailoring/enchanting, or monk with mining/Engineering. I know engineering isn't getting much, but not everything in this game has to be min-maxed. I just wanna have fun above all else.
One of the Necrolord conduit abilities provides a chance for a sack of ore, so that may hinder ore prices once that is available to most. I think another covenant has one for herbs. That being said; there's no telling how long until that particular person/conduit becomes available...
Actually, you can source in one character all you need, if you're a cloth user : tailoring + enchant. You'll be able to sell a lot, rely on nobody and only need to buy stats scroll for your own legendaries.
JC is the only one that can craft legendary base items for every class. Engineering has the bres too, but yeah feels like a bit of a downgrade compared to other professions which feel like they got buffed a lot.
Poor engineering. If we could sell trinkets on the ah or something we would be just fine with everything else being 100% gimmick. But nope. Always locked to engineer only items.
I always avoid professions but this time around it seems more worth it than getting transmogs, pets, toys, mounts. Which is what I used tailoring and engineering for. But this time it seems vastly needed to do them.
Biggest gripe: I can't drop a profession that I've found old world (rare) recipes for, and regain those after reacquiring and leveling it. I'd love to attempt dropping Tailoring on my Priest for something different, but we're still stuck with archaic restrictions for professions.
Is there any reason to finish leveling BFA professions? They were so pointless in the last couple expansions I didn't bother to much with them. Glad to them finally getting some love.
I think I'm going double gathering for leveling up, then switch to tailoring and enchanting at max level on my mage. I'll make my druid my max level double gatherer and my shadow priest might do herbalism and inscription.

Ugh I hate collecting scraps. But I hated ranked gathering even more than that. My main just so happens to be mage with tailor/enchanting (arcane explosion back for frost, aoe farming potential yuss) and my favourite alt druid has herb/alchemy and my other alts have other profession combos, so I'd be set for making massive amounts of gold in shadowlands by selling enchanted material, boe gear, legendary gear and enchants and alchemy stuff on the side. I do wonder if we get bigger bags though or if I have to stock up bfa cloth for bags and start grinding heroic/mythic dungeons for tidalcores.
Personally. I would go inscription/herbalist, or two gathering professions if I was a new player. Wow is very expensive for first time players where many players have gold from past expansions. So professions that make gold should be your focus. Once you have enough gold to pay for everything you need in production professions, or to buy what you want out right your in a good place.
My main used to be herbalism/mining. I had two alts which one had Alchemy/Inscription and the other had Blacksmithing/Jewelcrafting. I changed it to Mining/Engineering to make gold from old expansion mounts... now engineering won't have anything good? -.- what a bummer but I won't change it anyways lol
By the time the crafters mark II comes available most people will already have gear above that level. Blizz have allowed pvp gear to be the easiest way to gear up.
I was thinking of leveling with herbalism + tailoring because you get more cloth drops if you're a tailor. At 120 I'll change herb to enchanting. Might go double gathering tho it sounded good.
Should you do all gathering and buy needed crafted items? I wanna do crafting but ingredients are too expensive for me and traveling from area to area for just a few specific ingredients to level the profession is so annoying and time consuming.
Leather working and skinning. my alt will be double gathering. herb/mining. just my .02 not ideal but should keep me in gold and allow me to do some crafting.
im keep my engi cause its fun on my mail goggles, belt trick, and worm hole. ill be able to sell ore fairly well. 1 alt will have to be herb/enchanter cause its sells well. past this i dont gather much till we get flying so thats okey.
I’ll be going herb/mining for the first week then levelling Alchemy in time for the raid tier. I’m always tempted by engi but the shroud item turned out to be rubbish so alchemy is more reliably useful.
Shadowlands alchemy is a total waste of time. You can get healing potion and embalmers oil at level 10 and 20 but after that there are nothing but useless utility potions all the way up to level 115 and you won't get any battle potions until level 150 and the guardian battle elixir at level 170. So forget it if you think it's a quick grind because you can't get enough herbs to make enough healing potion even for yourself let alone sell any on auction. Herbalism is a painful grind too as you can only get a few herb petals when you start out but gradually are able to loot a full herb only after weeks of farming herbs. It's a waste of time. If you wan't to make gold, I'd go with enchanting.
@signsofkelani do u know if there are bop items needed for crafting? I think about sticking the whole expansion to enchanting and gathering with the characters I play and craft with twinks which I am not walking around with to gather stuff
Gonna stick with double gathering. Are there still enchants for faster mining and herbing? And stirrups from blacksmithing to stay mounted while gathering? If so im going to level 50-60 just from gathering
I'm not changing professions. I have a few alts with different profs so I'm hoping I'll be covered. The challenge is going to be keeping up with everything. We'll see.
i'm about to mage: tailor enchant // shammy: alchemy inscription at early of exp, then i have my blacksmith on my pally that is set to go with jewelry but probably not gonna use it until later on and the last crafter that i have is my Demonhunter with skinnning and leatherworking for crafting purposes. Finally my dudu is miner and herbalism
Hmm. I've got a few toons imma be leveling so I guess my druid can be leatherworker/skinning, priest can be inscription and my mage can be my tailor and enchanter. This works pretty well when the expansion is alt friendly :)
Kelani mentions that they are "saving greens to jumpstart their enchanting in Shadowlands". I have had an enchanter for a couple of years and when I disenchant I only receive materials from the expansion the item came from right? BFA greens won't give me SL materials once I am in the new expansion right? So there is another reason to do this? Thanks so much
So I might actually do something with professions for once? Except for classic wow I can't remember the last time I did much of anything with a profession.
Do you need a max lever character for the tailoring/lw/blacksmithing? Or just a dead alt that just stays in oribos and crafts will do the job? (if you buy all the mats or farm them from other alts)
If I have tailoring currently, what would happen when I pick up herbalism in SL before max and later switch back to tailoring? I can't seem to really understand the whole professions changing and recipe thing.
with all this raw material farming im sure multiboxers are going to have the best time of their lives. Can we plz stop multiboxers before the markets are completely ruined.
Given how many raw materials are needed, as well as the dependency on enchanting & inscription I just hope that for once Blizzard manages to do something to keep materials cheap enough that you can afford the damn things by just being the game normally, instead of needing to become a goldfarming player yourself because otherwise nothing is affordable due to the amount of AH goblins inflating the prize by buying up everything and creating de-facto cartels...
@@urstruly6405 I mean, solid idea. But leveling Inscription now isn't going to help you tomorrow. Shadowlands inscription is a whole other leveling process :/
But is it going to be like the last expansion where everyone and their mother are doing inscription and enchanting so the items you can sell to make your gear are cheap, and after the first 3 weeks they aren't worth selling? This is happened w/ the gear you could craft also. I haven't tried any gathering in the beta yet, can more than one person pick the node or is it old school with first person gets the ore/weed? Judging by the comments on this video and in game, it’ll be exactly like that :( everyone’s going enchanting. It’s just a matter of getting ahead of the pack and having everything upgraded and making bank during launch. That’s pretty much every game with such a high power creep tho.

Anyone know if you can level professions to max being L50? What I'm wondering is if there is a bonus, and how large bonus, to being L60 for professions for the first weeks when gold is flowing?
I'm thinking of maining a fresh mag har dk which starts lvl 8 or 10, but ill go mining and blacksmithing is it worth to be specific about leveling zone to use my profession? or is it useless until I make it into the shadowlands?

You dont need to level up your twink to skill a profession? So i can farm herbs with my main and send all to my 50 twink to craft and i wont miss anything?
@@ReidyReid Each expansion's profession level is treated individually, and I don't think that will be different in shadowlands. You can have an alchemist that is lvl 150 on tbc and lvl 75 on bfa for example. Farming bfa profession level will therefore not give you any reward or bonus for shadowlands.
Those cards and trinkets ALWAYS seem to sell extremely well throughout the first raid tier, and sometimes further on. I plan on herb/inscription for that reason alone, plus selling the missives.
