@@MrSussyAsian the Japanese size sleeves are. But even if you can't get those, I've found that the regular ones keep your cards pretty still (even if not as well). I've liked them so far.
Saying that ulta pro classic sleeves are durable? Are you serious? This disqualifies everything else you might've said in the rest of the video, because after that, I didn't bother to keep watching
Eloi I mean they're my opinions but if you really feel that way sure. I've never had a good experience with KMCs and ever since they shifted the make of their product they've only gotten worse. Curious to know why you don't think the OG Ultra Pro are durable though.
In my experience the after playing OG ultra pro for 5+ years is there corners bend and the bottom breaks open very easily and they get sweaty in your hands easily. I picked up hyper mats because i wanted something better quality and stop having to replace sleeves so often and get rid of the sweat grim. 2+ years later and could not be more happy with them. Hyper mats for me are just sublime.
seriously I've bought a brand new pack of ultra pro sleeves at regionals only to have them split on me before the regional even started. At least they come in packs of 60 but having a brand new sleeve split on you is really annoying.
Nick Scar I've just never had luck with them. They get super sticky and dirty super quick and I just never feel happy with the amount of money I spend on them for how long they lasted. I consider a sleeve done when it feels shitty, splitting is a very fringe way to gauge durability. Let's face it unless you're a total savage you're not splitting sleeves all the time.
KMC was sold a while ago and the new sleeves are apparently terrible for durability. The new sleeves look the exact same and have the same packaging but the glue that holds the front and back together is really poor quality. There was still a heap of stock of the old sleeves when they started making the new ones so your local shop might still be stocking the awesome quality older ones.
same, i tend to see ultra pro ones have their corners be really flimsy. The corners get bent super easily. Especially the older ultra pros, those also seemed to split a lot.
I personally find hyper mats to be the best as well and i really like the rough new back. The grip it has feels really good. I doubt the new ultra pro could match hyper mats feel and durability, but i'm open to picking them up and testing them out.
Though they are expensive, the best are Dragon Shield sleeves. Holds the card tight so it won't drift to the top, come in a variety of colors, have a slightly textured back for easy grip, and aren't reflective so you can see your card and it's rarity clearly. Ultra pro is a lie; they have some of the shittiest sleeves in terms of drift, feel, size fit, cut consistency, and overall quality
Actually in their defence, since Ultra Pro started making the Eclipse sleeves and changed the hologram mark to be clear and near the bottom of the sleeve, I've noticed just in general a higher quality of sleeve even on their standard, non-eclipse versions. But giving them a 10/10 for durability wuuuuuuuuut
All I read at the comment section it's just "ultra pro isn't durable, it lasted only a tournament", "KMCs are good but they bend", "my sleeves split appart after four rounds" guys, seriously, how do you ficking shuffle your decks? with a paper crusher or a pair of scissors?
I've used about every sleeve on the market, including the ancient "anime" sleeves (green dragon, manga witch, ect. last about a day before peeling) and i even still have some of those obnoxious shiny foil sleeves from 10+ years ago by bcw (they could actually damage your cards). Old ultra pro sleeves. I feel the corners get bent super easily. ive had my opponent shuffle my deck and hand it back where half the corners were then marked. Also they seem to break really really easily. I've always carried around 10+ extra sleeves if i've used them just for the ones that separate. but at 3$ i guess you get what you pay for Ultra pro Pro-Matte actually seemed quite a lot more durable than the original ultra pro sleeves. Although the matte sheen on the cards making them look dull is kinda a turn off. Also they seem to get a lot of smudges from people that have greasy hands. still an improvement over ultra pro original. Dont split as fast BCW sleeves are absolute garbage. The old foil ones at least kinda looked cool, in a shiny obnoxious ways. The new ones still have the same splitting problem Players choice: White pc is great, although they the seem to wear out pretty quickly. the biggest issue i have is stuff seems to get kinda stuck to the front of them. you can usually just scrape it off but it seems to attract dirt particles or something. Other PC colors have the issue of getting marked by sweaty hands/fingers and it's really hard to get out the stains. KMC hyper mat mini is my favorite. They honestly just last longer than anything else. I've made it through 11 rounds of tournament without having to change out a single sleeve with them. And they feel really nice imo. Dragon Shield is also really really good. I haven't used them nearly as much as hyper matte but i would be perfectly ok with using them instead of KMC's in a long tournament. They also feel great. Ultra pro eclipse - Fuck you. These sleeves are garbage, Almost on par with the old BCW (which is a really high bar for being terrible) They didnt even last through a 4 round locals without getting damaged. It was bad to the point i almost asked for a refund. PC feel the best. KMC/Dragon Shield last the longest. Although no one mentioned official konami sleeves, which is weird. They actually are pretty durable. Kinda smudge prone like the back of non white pc's and pro-mattes. But durability wise is pretty good. Although using a pack of nats sleeves every time you re-sleeve your deck would get pretty pricey.
Yo, wtf? Are you sure you didn't mix up the Pro-matte and Eclipse reviews? Eclipse are hella durable, and frankly just better than other sleeves. They justify the increased price
Yeah i'm sure. At least in the box of sleeves we got at the shop, i think every person had to resleeve really quickly. Bent corners and splitting sleeves are a really good way to get a game loss
The old eclipses were crap, as you said, however, after a channel I trust very much for sleeve and deck box reviews gave a look at the updated eclipse sleeves, I purchased a pack of them and ended up loving them, they now not only feel great off of the knew assembly, lines but that pack has lasted me almost a year so far, and (as far as I can see) only a few sleeves of the pack have had the corners bend, Overall I recommend them although make sure you get them from a retail store as they only sell the sleeves off of the current assembly lines. If you would like to visit the channel it is known as Tolarian Community College.
I got mz Hyper Mat sleeves.. about 6 Month ago, playing every week with them. I Played exactly the same Pack last week at Nationals and they still look new xD I had to change out 2 of them, but i just love them
Thanks for the lesson. I've always collected. Never yugioh. Now I bought my first contrast heros bundle. I am getting clear sleeves I'm ultra pro fan for life.
Dragon shield are amazing. Personally I give them a 10/10. Although, they make the deck seem rather thick. Also I’m looking for something with a less texture feel.
Also, I think there may be two different types depending on some exterior factors (Area/time of manufacture as an example), because people seem very polar about their opinions. Either people will call them shite and complain about the durability/feel, or love them for those EXACT factors. If it were something subjective that'd be its own explanation, but durability? It seems obvious we're talking about two very different sleeves
2:33 All my regular ultra pro sleeves get split ends after one event, How in the world did these sleeves get a 10/10 on durability? Also I wish ultra pro would offer colors for eclipse besides BLACK AND WHITE.
Just bought the UP Eclipse sleeves last week, as they were sold out of my local card shop and I am thoroughly amazed, and absolutely agree with everything you said about the whole "takes the best of each sleeve type and shoves it into one". Durability is what sold me, and the ease of shuffling of the cards are amazing. I've used PC sleeves, and they were attracting noticeable amounts of dirt in less than a week of play on a cloth playmat. I just love the new eclipse sleeves. The only thing harsh about them right now is that the color palate is limited...
Brandon Rieger from what I've seen at my local store they have expanded the palette for MTG sizes. I'm not quite sure if it's carried over to yugioh size but it's only a matter of time. The orange I saw those was sick asf
I had used the Ultimate Guard blacks, and I didn't mind the grip, they felt very "soft" (not in grip, but the actual material), but the corners got damaged so soon. They got cloudy rather early too. It's criminal how well Player Choice white sleeves feel. The hyper mats are nothing like the PC whites, are you crazy? The eggshell backing is totally different, but they feel a lot sharper to the corners than PC whites. They do fall apart though.
It's weird. I've had only amazing experiences with Eclipse, and I've seen like 50/50 comments on Eclipse. Half think they're great, half think they're awful. Maybe there are different types, or manufacturing methods? I and everyone at my locals swear by them
actually didn't like my eclipses. They felt weird and actually didn't last as well as I had hoped. My pro mattes feel better and have lasted better too. might have to try them again but the price is annoying, especially since I play 60 cards so I'd need 2 packs for main extra and side
It's really wierd. I live in an extremely dusty ambient, Ultra Pro's suck ass a LOT. They get dirtier and stickier than Hyper Minis or Players choice very oftenly :s
KMC recently went to shit on build quality. Their older shit was the best on the market. For the best sleeves you NEED to go Dragon Shield. There is no other choice but Dragon shield anymore. The new ultra pro you mentioned is good but it does not hold a fucking candle to dragon shield. Also dragon shield are "okay" for double sleeve purposes. KMC were the best for double sleeve but now they are garbage. Funny how you left out the best sleeves possible in the video.
Kind of disappointed that the new small box Dragon shield's weren't in here. Hopefully you will do them in another video even though I really highly disagree with your assertions of some of the sleeves. I love that the bubble has been dulled down for Ultra Pro classics but I have had packs of them barely last a full regional which is disappointing. On the other hand KMC's have lasted me months and months before I need to clean them. Though I suppose every pack of sleeves can be different. Are we ever going to get other colors from Ultra Pro for these, their magic sleeves have multiple colors that at least aren't available around me.
dragon shield sleeves suck. they stick together right out of the pack and even more stickier when play with. other then durability the sleeve is trash.
I haven't had a single problem with the NEW dragon shield matte minis. I have had the apple green ones on my deck through a 9 round regional and countless hours of play testing after. I am sorry your experience with some dragon shields was bad, but I haven't had a single issue with sticking or anything.
I like Dragon Shield more than PC whites for a gloss sleeve, if they came in packs of 60 they would be my only sleeve choice, but sometimes having to buy two packs just for a full deck is a pain in the ass.
KMCs are WAYYYY more durable than PC. I bought some KMCs at a regional in march and played them at locals until the next regional yesterday and bought a new pack. If it wasn't a big event I would have kept them because they were in decent condition, some breaks, and sticky, but after two months I would think they would be.
I currently use the Ultra pro eclipse sleeves. I can advocate that they are the best sleeves that I have ever used. The shuffle feel is unmatched by any. My only complaint is that they don't have any other colors.
I went through this entire video because I was getting back into the game and did not recognize the Prog legend himself, Gage, was the person speaking.
How are the old ultra pros which are generally seen as being much worse (and lets be real, putting aside the bias in the video, the worst of all time in the past) rated higher in durability than the new eclipses lol?
Gage.... i love u SOMETIMES.... but you just said KMC and PC feel the same. KMC has grip where as PC has a super slick back and KMC has a grindy back. They FEEL completely different.
Ultimate Guard has a different kind of sleeve which I found to be one of the best sleeves I have used before. I can't put my name on it but it was pretty durable and glossy in the front not matte. If anyone knows what they are tell Gage about it, because they make ultimate guard look good
I love the KMC Hyper matts but the only problem I've seen is I can never find them and they are expensive. Like $7 for a pack. The reason I love UP is because not only have they lasted along time for me, but the shuffle feel is great and they're cheap. Yes they're flimsy, but I don't shuffle like a fucking moron. I recommend KMC or UP.
Years ago I would have said Players Choice white eere the best sleeves to use Now days Dragon Shield seem to be the best, but besides the Monster has a great sleeve for Yu-Gi-Oh that lasted me litterly a full month of use
Why didn't you cover the actual Konami branded Yu-Gi-Oh card sleeves, and whether each sleeve set is PVC-free, acid-free, and archival safe from other materials?
Nonono, ngl they are nice, but they DO NOT long, dragon shield and ultra pro eclipse are the 2 leader and best(pricy too) dragon is better to last but thicc and less shuffle feeling than eclipse. But classic pro have a lot of miss production problems very often.
Have you tried out the Dragon Shield brand of sleeves? I've got the 'Espeon' purple ones & they've lasted me for about 20yrs so far & their still going strong....yet I got them to play pokemon with, but I've used them as a double-sleeving on my ygo cards too.
bought a pack of dragon shields.... everybody said they feel great. and while the sleeves feel Russia could nuke your deck and it would be fine after..... but they feel like shit. right out of the box they stick. please try them out for yourself I can't even graveyard slide them.
Thank you. I understand some sleeves do not slide over the mat when playing. Which is most important for graveyard based decks. Which sleeves do you recommend with both durability and texture?
So does that mean i should prioritize eclipses if i can get them for 5 dollars? because thats how much ive been getting them for, i dont think id pay 7 for them but what do i know? lol
Kinda weird everyone is shitting on this. Didn't really seem that biased, in case none of you know Ultra Pro Eclipse are known as the new best sleeves.
i have some problems with my cards, some of them are American and thats why they are so curved. Is it a way to fix that? I tried ironing my cards and putting them under heavy books and that didnt work :/
Eclipse sleeves broke the first play! Each 2 round 1 card of the deck has cut in the sleeve... The sleeves are so hard on the edges to cut eachother while shuffling...
