1. For Clown, it's clear they went for a more realistic approach and he's likely based off of John Wayne Gacy. He was a serial killer of young men in the 1970's and would dress up as a clown called Pogo. I do hope we get a more silly clown killer in the future though, like Pennywise or Killer Klowns from Outer Space. 2. Has anyone else noticed that since Roots of Dread, all of the title cards for the new chapters look the same? Just plain white, blocky letters. It's very stale honestly. 3. For anyone who may not know, this past Tuesday was the 20th anniversary of Silent Hill 3! May 23rd. Such an awesome game. Happy anniversary, fellow SH lovers! ❤
I was going to say the exact same thing about JWG for Clown. Also, Legion definitely took inspiration from the movie "The Strangers" which is about a group of masked teenagers who kill people together for no other reason than the fact that they enjoy doing it together as a group. When the couple in the movie asks "why you are doing this?" they respond "because you were home." Chilling. And VERY Legion.
Its rather obvious if you think about his nickname "killer-clown". He was a very sloppy serial killer too, which adds up to clowns overal appearence, perks and backstory.
the singularity chapter is absolutely referencing the game SOMA with even the survivor's surname being Soma. half-robots, artificial people, the theme of copying and transfering someone's mind, human clones inside of a machinery - it was all there, it is too familiar not to notice. The enemies from there, who were paople later fused with machinery? it's singularity, but faster-better-stronger, haha
Also reminds me of the movie "Virus" where an alien lifeform composed only of energy gets send from space through a satelite into a research ship. It becomes a selfaware computervirus that starts to take the ship and crew apart to build itself weird cyborg bodies.
I'm pretty sure Skull Merchant is based on the femme fatale trope with her confidence in how she looks and moves being very provocative in nature. I also remember a Reddit post a while back talking about similarities between Adriana and Vandal Savage's daughter from DC.
Singularity also reminds me of the movie Virus (1999), where a ships computer is struck by an alien energy blast and goes haywire. It ends up fusing machine and flesh into body horror monstrosities that kill and harvest other people. Could be a coincidence, though
It reminds me of cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2, with the orange vests for the survivor and the singularity being a robot like the food maker thing. also the map being colorful just like the food island, Idk it just reminds me of it.
I think legion and Jeff’s inspiration was the Manson family if u look at the lore and compare it to the real life story 2 members of the cult didn’t want to do it 2 of them were crazy and forced them to do it even the term legion being written on the wall is a reference to the words written on the walls of Sharon gates house
He missed the fact that The Singularity is based on Hal-9000 from the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Both are AI that went rogue and killed the crew they were supposed to protect. They even copied Hal-9000’s look with the eyes of Singularity being black on the outside with a large red circle in the middle. They both have a 3 letter name that starts with H (Hal and Hux). They both talk in a robotic male voice and say similar things.
As for the Twins' design, I have some strong vibes with the X-files episode 'Humbug'. The idea of a conjoined twin detaching himself from his sibling and hunting people is quite explicit there.
I think a key influence for the twins is that of Belial from Basket Case. He's the monstrous half of a botched euthanization of a siamese twin. They even somewhat look the same.
I do think Skull Merchant is partially based on the Predator, specifically the version from the game Predator: Hunting Grounds, because every gadget she has parallels one of the gadgets the Predator uses in that game. The wrist blades are similar for obvious reasons, her radar is similar to how the Predator's heat vision tracking places a temporary marker on enemies, and her drones are similar to the motion detectors. Also, her mori is very similar to the stealth kill animation from that game.
@@SuperCoooolmanfalse, from his tome we can see he used his disguise as a clown to kill at least two people, and multiple of his outfits implied he killed others as a clown too
Some also notes for specific killers; The Nurse actually shares a good bit of her backstory and themes with, ironically, Lisa Garland from Silent Hill 1 specifically. With both being withered down over years of working in hospital/asylums and dying/snapping. Freddy in general is also inspired by real life deaths of the Mong people, it's too much to go into but there are a good amount of videos going into it. Ghostface is heavily based of his Scream counterpart's real life inspiration, Danny Rolling. His "Classic" robe is also not the one from the film but based on it, being non sparkled and different drapes.
Skull Merchant I think was inspired by a trope/concept/theme rather than a specific character- she's the archetype of the rich person who hunts people for sport, a la The Most Dangerous Game and all its many, many imitators. Somewhere along the line someone decided to tie this in with Brazil's huge manga scene, which is where the rest of her presumably came from, following that line of thought down to her aesthetic elements. I wouldn't be surprised if BHVR knew about Brazil's manga scene and wanted to do something with that before they started designing Skull Merchant, or otherwise maybe decided to make her Brazilian and learned about the manga scene pretty early on.
I thought the same but I just looked at a predator and skull merchant shares a lot of similarities. 1. They hunt for sport. 2. They have a wrist blade. 3. The predator red laser looks like skull merchants red eye. they have long nails and use technology.
I believe Deathslinger takes a little bit from a real life Sniper, Simo Häyhä. Both excellent Marksmen which neither used scopes, and both got shot in the jaw and lived to tell the tale disfiguring both.
I'm surprised nobody has brought up that The Twins are likely inspired by the franchise Basketcase, where a man brings around his deformed conjoined twin in a basket to everywhere he goes. The section where Belial was cut from Duane is the exact same spot and Belial is shown in the first movie to have been running around with a psychic link to Duane similar to how the twin's main mechanic of Victor attacking the survivors remotely works.
4:27 Legion is clearly a reference to the youtuber Dream, idk how this isnt widely known i even asked matieu and he said "who are you? please get out of my housr now im calling the authorities"
The miner killer from my Bloody Valentine is named Harry Warden And for the Pig, we actually see Amanda (or at least that's what most people suppose) wearing this outfit in the first Saw movie when she kidnaps Lawrence
for the twins, i suggest "basket case" a movie where a guy goes around with his deformed brother who was cut out of his side at birth but still survived. and then they kill people in NYC
Personally, I thought Singularity and the chapter is based off of Soma. Most of the enemies in that game are robot/humanoid amalgamations. The whole story centers around the theme of consciousness/identity and what happens when it crosses paths with technology. Even Gabriel's last name is Soma.
I strongly believe the twins were inspired by the x files episode humbug, where a man has a conjoined twin who splits off from him and kills people. The twin also looks similar to victor
The pig mask from Pig is based off of the Chinese Zodiac symbol of a pig. It's supposed to symbolize rebirth for John Kramer. His child would have been born into the year of the pig also. Since his child dying was a catalyst for beginning his games, he decided to apply the same symbol for rebirth to his victims.
You can also notice wraith's predator origin from the sound he makes while cloacked that is very similar to the sound used in the movies to imply the predator's presence without showing him
0:35 The Miner is also referred to as Harry Warden or Axel Palmer. If anything they are my dream killer to get added to the game since I love the OG movie. *We do not discuss the abhorred remake.*
It's driving me crazy that it doesn't seem like anyone acknowledges this, but the Singularity is most definitely inspired by Frictional Games' SOMA (the people who made Amnesia: The Dark Descent). The Singularity has a ton of similarities both visually and lore-wise to the WAU from Soma, and Gabriel's last name is literally Soma. If they aren't inspired by that, then that's an insane coincidence.
Huntress feels like a campfire tale. She exists in the same realm as Jason Voorhees, Madman Marz, and Zeke the Plumber. If one ventures into the wilderness or the nearby hills the Huntress will be waiting for him. I run into Blight very often while riding my bike through Valley Boulevard. Much of Los Angeles County is riddled with drug addicts. Legion reminds me of the loner kid(s) that the cliques in high school spread rumors about and refused to befriend.
Nice video! Here are 3 other bits of info which may or may not have been mentioned in all the comments, but may add to these ideas: 1. Demogorgon was also partially inspired by the Silent Hill series, in particular to the uncanny humanoid features which makes it familiar, yet also disturbing. Silent Hill is one inspiration for the Upside Down too. 2. The Twins may have originally links to Alien! The original plan was for them not to be twins, but a pregnant woman, whose baby would burst out of the womb to attack. Needless to say both this and the lore which might have accompanied this was quite problematic, so the twin idea was brought in. May explain Victor's appearance. 3. The Artist was likely facially influenced by a Billie Eilish picture of her crying black tears when doing promo for her first album. That one may be more speculative, but the similarities are very much alike.
I never really looked into the actual mythology behind this but I always thought The Dredge was quite similar to the representation of Pisaca in Shin Megami Tensei games (Both visually and thematically with the lore). I believe that Pisaca is from Hindi mythology, but the name differences, design differences and story with demons in the Shin Megami Tensei games is sometimes quite different from the mythology that the characters derive from.
3:21 Amanda's outfit is the robe she wore in multiple scenes throughout the saw films. her other in-game cosmetics are also references to the films, such as amanda's original shirt and pants from the first film, the leather jacket being a reference to another Pig that worked for John Kramer in the films, and of course the red and black robe which was worn by John Kramer himself. the hidden blade was also technically a reference to the scene where John Kramer sliced Detective Tapp's throat with an identical hidden blade in order to escape
Bro, Wesker existed before the matrix movie came out, and he was primarily depicted to look like a Nazi ideal human (an Aryan) with his blonde hair and (before the virus changed it) blue eyes, not to mention his belief in his own superiority via genetics, which helped him get the Uroborous.
I think skull merchant is behaviors take on a rich person hunting people for fun trope, like in pest or the hunt. I also get comic book villian vibes from her.
When I heard of Singularities story, my mind went right back to the 2000 film Red Planet. General plot is astronauts going to Mars to look for habitable solutions and/or alternatives for a dying Earth. They have a robot dog of some sort (which can stand on two legs) referred to as AMEE (Autonomous Mapping Evaluation and Evasion) designed for scouting, analyzing, all the science lingo to imply its there to make wider examinations of the land where they wouldn't be able. The usual crap goes wrong and they crash on the planet. Tensions rise between them, but AMEE eventually returns to them (as it was lost during the crash initially), and they notice its damaged so they try to shut it down to conserve its power. Instead it takes their actions as threatening and decides to strike back and run off again. So while these astronauts are scavenging what they can and trying to proceed on with their mission anyway, finding a bunch of weird stuff with Mars, AMEE is observing from a distance and also waiting for opportunities to strike and kill them one by one. So yeah, I can imagine the Entity just deciding to grab something like that for its killer roster, why not.
Actually Twins is inspired by Belle Gunness, a serial killer from the 1800s. At least the original Mother-Fetus version of them before they changed to twins for launch.
Legion always makes me think of Creepypasta. Just my first association for hoodie + unique mask + knife. They’re also the exact kind of teenage edgelords who’d love Creepypasta.
The Legion, rather than being visually inspired by the purge, seems to be inspired by a scrapped idea for Scream 2. In this scrapped script, Stu the original killer survived and was leading an army or “legion” of Ghostfaces.
10:45 and man this time i think was a missed one, the singularity looks very, VERY much like the monster from the little known 1999 movie "Virus", the face is practically the same as one of its forms, and the concept of a being the biomechanics created from some outer space contamination is also similar.
4:21 Legion is probably based off of the four original survivors. Frank being Dwight, Julie being Meg, Susie being Claudette and Joey being Jake. Devs even gave them two perks that punishes survivors for being altruistic and their trailer shows how similar they are to other survivors. Thats why the trailer shows them as a traitor. Possessing the skill that survivors have but being killers.
Adding onto Knight as a possible For Honor collab, For Honor features four classes (Vanguard, Heavy, Assassin, and Hybrid) The Knight and his goon squad could represent these four classes even more deeply than people might initially realize. The knight would be the Vanguard which is an all around class that can handle all roles but not excel at them. The Heavy (Carnifex) is generally used for objective defense like holding zones in For Honor or keeping survivors off gens in DBD. The Assassins (Assassin) in For Honor tend to have faster running speeds and can chase down other players more easily, much like how the Assassin in DBD has a better chase ability (faster). Added onto that, many Assassins in FH can inflict bleeding which is functionally similar to Deep Wound in DBD. Hybrids (Jailer) in FH are some middle ground between all the classes and are a little like the Vanguard but more specialized. Of course, this could also be me over thinking everything.
Twins probably has some influence from Kuato from Total Recall as well Belial from Basket Case. The look is more Kuato, but Belial was a seperated conjoined twin that went on a murder spree.
Also, the lore of Legion is like a dark version of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Same case with a murder and same narrative with "it's OUR secret, and we will take it to our graves"
Don't mean to pick at small stuff, but not wesker's original voice actor but it's his actor for code veronica, zero and 4 who got their inspiration for the wesker's Shere Khan voice. Also fun fact apparently his re1 appearance(stars outfit) is inspired by a character named Iceman from the top gun movie with Tom cruise, also Re5's iteration was both Neo(mostly Neo obviously) and terminator with the shades and glowing red eyes
Pretty sure Trickster was inspired by Oh Sangwoo from Killing Stalking too, at least somewhat. Since they share likeness in the way they act, similar hairstyle, both are Korean, considered very attractive, wields a baseball bat to kill with, incredibly twisted minds, and the diamond cufflink add-on on Trickster mentions that they're from someone who stalked him and lived to regret it (Killing Stalking is literally about a dude stalking Sangwoo and Sangwoo decides to capture him and hold him as a slave). Also, it's a very nsfw and pretty fucked up manhwa. (just have to mention that if someone haven't been exposed to it before lmao)
Your comparison was fine but I think you already started to overanalyze when you mentioned the trickster add-on that says someone was stalking him: actually they are called sasaengs, fans obsessed with k-pop idols, they are very common and go to extremes only to get the idol's attention.
When I see the twins I can't stop thinking of the old Basket case Films. I have a similar feeling for singularity, it reminds me of the monster from the 1999 movie "Virus"
The Pig's design actually has some deeper meaning behind it, specifically around the Pig mask itself. John Kramer (Jigsaw) lost his unborn son, Gideon during the Year of The Pig, and it is significant to him. Even more disturbing, Amanda unintentionally played a part in him losing his son, being there the night his wife was injured and lost the child.
If you wanted to be technical, Freddy Krueger was based on a true story where a group of refugees suddenly died in their sleep. Also, Leatherface also takes inspiration from Ed Gein.
I wouldnt be surprised in the inspiration for the twins could be the film Basket Case. Little gremlin thing in an older siblings body and also screams very loud
Skull Merchant's weapon probably takes *some* inspiration from Predator rather than her actual character design. As many others have said, Clown has a lot of inspiration from John Wayne Gacy and quite possibly Pennywise (and/or clowns in general). Singularity definitely has some similar elements to the Construct from Soma. Though there isn't any confirmation or anything on this, SOMA could definitely be the inspiration for the End Transmission chapter and quite possibly James Cameron's Avatar could have inspired the new map to an extent as well.
Clown is most likely based on John Wayne Gacy who was also dubbed the killer clown and is most likely also the inspiration for Pennywise. Pinhead is based on his 1987 movie appearance which however in turn is based off of a minor character in Clive Barkers book The Hellbound Heart. The outfit of all the cenobites is based of off SnM (best way of censoring it) clothes that Barker saw at different clubs.
Don’t know if it’s true, but Freddy is actually based on a series of death where people died whilst sleeping. I can’t remember if it was knightmares that killed them or if they were murdered or if they died of completely random causes but that’s where the concept of the Dream demon came from
7:00 the twins could be based on the horror movie basket case which is about seperated joined twins and one of the brothers is a small deformed blob of flesh that looks like viktor if he moved via claymation.
In terms of kpop aesthetics that inspired Trickster’s design, I’d say they’d probably include Jackson Wang of GOT7, EXO’s Obsession music video, KARD, aka the more edgy, risqué concepts and groups.
For Skull Merchant I would guess her inspiration comes from The Adeptus Mechanicus from Warhammer 40k, as her drones have very striking similarities to Servo-skulls
I think that the mastermind is actually based on the character "Albert Wesker" from resident evil 5, I know, it's kinda a stretch but if you look closely it starts to make sense.
I still think The Singularity takes inspiration from the Movie/Comic Virus. Where a computer intelligence combines flesh and metal in ways that very much resemble things that look like the Singularity. It also has Jamie Lee Curtis.
2 weeks late but I feel like this is worth bringing up. its possible that the Twins are based at least partly on an X files episode. In season 2 episode 20 theres a murder case based around circus freaks. One of which was a pair of conjoined twins called Lanny and Leonard, with Leonard being the smaller conjoined twin. In the episode Leonard is able to separate himself from Lanny for a short time to go off and kill people, hence the murder case. Now its not a perfect 1:1. Nothing to do with the French, nothing to do with the time period, but come on, a pair of conjoined twins where the smaller one can detach himself from the bigger one and go off by himself to kill people? It HAS to be inspiration!
I think skull merchant is Ada Wong from resident evil four because you find her clothes on the bed for skull merchants map and they have the same hair color
i think skull merchant is a bundle of tropes, most prominently "Femme Fatales" and "Rich hunting the Poor", but due to adriana being inspired by a character from a manga, i think she most likely is based around most manga villains that like killing, namely characters like Light Yagami, Dio Brando And Muzan Kitsubuji, the reason i believe this is that there is a charm in the tome that is referencing Josukes pose from the 3rd Opening of Diamond is Unbreakable, as the Skull Merchant is a manga character, it is most likely she is based around Manga and Anime Villains who kill out of a pure kick for power
I also think Singularity is inspired by many similar stories in film and television. The setting and atmosphere of the future feels very Alien. The way they describe Hux’s previous form reminds me of androids from the alien franchise like Ash from the first Alien or also the Working Joes from Alien Isolation. Also his whole MO and design reminds me of the 1999 movie Virus. In that movie a space lightning bolt strikes a Russian ship, quickly taking over the computer systems and gaining sentience. It also constructs crude physical bodies that are made of both machine parts and organic matter.
I haven’t played the game, but a friend of mine says singularity could be inspired by the game SOMA which is a horror game about rogue AI. Also the survivor’s last name is Soma
2:40 Russian here What he said is correct but most of the russians just sing the first 4 lines and dont know the rest of them. The first 4 can be translated to this (i dont have the best english): Sleepy sleepy go to sleep And dont lie on the edge of your seat Or the grey wolf will come And take a bite out of your arm (here is the original: Баю-баюшки-баю Не ложися на краю Придет серенький волчок И ухватит за бочок)
a friend ones mentioned that the helmet of knight looks like a pigeon head, since then its stuck in my head and i couldn't unsee it It makes me laugh every time i see him
am i the only one who thinks dredge was inspired by the one reborn (bloodborne)? an amalgam of people full of skulls that comes from a black fog, both fit this description
