Idk, it probably has something to do with how the economy in Pokemon is modeled. Most people either walk, fly, or ride Pokémon, so transportation like bikes, are probably considered a luxury and symbol of status, like cars or boats. That's probably why we usually only see triathletes(who probably have a bunch of sponsorships and thus can afford to pay for the bikes) riding them.

To be fair to platinum, pokedollars are comparable to yen so most of those furniture pieces are about 1-2 grand and considering the shipping to a villa for such items as well as just their base cost it’s not as much of a rip off as you’d think

People are making costs in Pokemon a much bigger deal than it actually is, never stopping to wonder why some rando trainer kid defeated on a road can give you $600 after you beat him in a pokemon fight, or why lemonade costs around $200... yet the answer is so simple. 1 pokedollar does NOT equal $1, but more like 1 penny.

I love my fully furnished Villa. I spent way too much time in the underground getting fossils and shit, and all the cash items i got was ridiculous. At one point i had 373 rare bones. Needless to say my bank account was stacked.

Fun fact: Since the currency in Pokémon is based on the yen, the bike in the bike shop is actually around 9318,35$ USD. This might seem unreasonable, but the most expensive bicycle in the world is the Butterfly Trek Madone coming in at a whopping 500k$ USD or 53.66M yen/pokédollars.

Keep in mind pokedollars are designed as a currency in a similar way to yen, so to gauge at the intended value-cost of items you should make the approx that 100p$-->1$ so a 90 000p$ Tv would be about 900$.

the game most likely has no code assigned to having over the maximum amount, so it will probably give the same "not enough money" message

There is no logical integer limit that stops at exactly 1M AFAIK. It's probably just in game code that says if money is >= 1M, set it to 999K etc... Changing the data type wouldn't be reasonable. And besides, since its a shop menu, it probably has no item attached to it and at most will just take your money.

@@Kaisogen actually, I don't know if the nds has this but the gameboy does; it can have n amount of bytes where every byte is 2 digits of a base10 number. This means it could have the limit of 3 bytes as a base10 number, giving it the hard limit of 0-999'999.

Man, I miss the Villa, I actually raised money to buy stuff for that place when I was younger because I can. I also bought most of these expensive ribbons. You forgot to mention that the place for the ribbons are only accessible IF you have a pokemon with at least 10 ribbons. That's like 10 contests or 5 contests plus the Pokemon League and some misc. ribbon guys. The irony of my story is this: I had a prize-winning Glaceon, that had at least *20 Ribbons* by the time I showed up. LOL
