I just bought the Donner DST152. It'll be here Monday. I got the package deal for 150 because they had a flash sale. Honestly I don't know what I'm getting. I've heard good and bad things about this guitar. One of the reasons I watch your channel is that I think you give your honest opinion. Even if I disagree, I feel like you're honest where others aren't. I also watched Elmo give a review of this guitar and after a setup he gave it a good review. He's critical of the guitars he reviews and he buys them. He said that after setup he likes the DST 152 more than his Squier Affinity. So, I'm giving Donner a chance. We'll see. But if I can't get it to tune up and intonate properly I'll send it right back. And I'll never buy from them again. The Squier Debut package is 200. And if I'm going off features alone, the 152 beats the Squier all to hell. I don't care how many they sell. It's full thickness, 22 frets, and all the same cheap hardware and pots and wires that you find in the debut. And cheap ceramic pickups too. But it has a better paint job. Its easier to modify. Push pull split humbucker and the list goes on. Rolled fingerbored. Bla bla bla. Oh and the fret work looks better too. Imo, at least on the surface, its a better guitar than the debut. I'll find out. Lol. Wish me luck!
nice findings brother! i myself have a donner acoustic and electric guitar along with a glarry electric guitar lol! donner LP clone and glarry tele clone....niether are stock anymore....
Might be better to compare sales rankings than reviews. If you guesstimate the total strat packages these five brands sell, it becomes obvious why Squier made the Debut. Exclusive to Amazon is double genius, since they target the price-driven shopper and don't stick dealers with a no-margin Bullet killer.
Great video! I've only bought one guitar from Amazon and it wasn't in a package. It's a M Musi Virgo Fusion and it's a great guitar with quality usually seen only on guitars 3 or 4 times the price.
Newbies gonna newbie. Can't blame the parents for starting out cheap. Heard that out every one hundred beginner guitar players only ten stay with it and out of the ten only one will become a decent player. I'm a permanent beginner that has stuck with it for several years. At least most of us here made the first cut being in the ten out of a hundred group that's still hanging in there. Cheers!
They seem to be in the 200 to 250 dollar range, I saw j-man video on a recent wesrcreek, he has to do some setup work on it. There are some nice guitars in the 200 range if they come setup from the factory.
Probably, these are people (parents?) buying Christmas or birthday presents for beginning child guitarists. The common factor is people who know NOTHING about guitars making the purchase decision. Also tempered by the goal of not spending a penny extra until you see if the kid sticks with it. As you said, Joe, value is not a factor, especially when you don't have an understanding of the basics. And once again, a guitar that is a good value (maybe needs some tweaking) is not the same as a good beginner's guitar (which must be playable).
Did you include "Ktaxon" with Glarry? They're pretty much the same exact guitars shipped from the same exact warehouse, Ktaxon just doesn't have a logo on it.
I’ve noticed over the past few months that Glarry seems to be pulling back from Amazon. Yes, they seemingly tried to “rebrand” I suppose as ktaxon. Also, they aren’t participating in the prime program, shipping is extra. However, there are a ton of third party sellers selling Glarry on eBay, most of whom offer free shipping. My guess is in another 6 months or maybe a year, the Amazon review numbers for them won’t have increased very much and they probably won’t be in the top 5
Be careful with high number of reviews stars. Companies can swap out products that get lots of reviews. Most of these cheap guitars are most likely coming from the same place. They just want to move volume so they sell for as cheap as possible. They sell on ebay too for cheap. Yeah I love the fact that I can get a 50 dollar used guitar on amazon to mess around with. I'm sticking with cheap guitars to practice on. Especially when I already have guitars lying around. Lol
