How does the deckorators compare to azek timbertech pvc with stain and scratch resistance?

Any tips on ripping the limestone composite? Having a hard time ripping this stuff. Gunks up my saws. Clumps and gets caught in the exhaust causing blade to wobble leaving uneven rips. Thanks.

My concern is that all these composit deckings are put on pressure treated wood. When the pressure treated goes rotten, then what do you do with the composit decking? Are there posts in composit design that can be used as the posts? I'm looking at replacing my dock (12x16) but have issues with what goes in the water.

Is there more or less springiness with the deck boards when using the Voyage Line? I think they look nice, but just want to know if the deck boards are just as solid and don't have any more give than any other composite decks when you walk on them. Thanks.

They are comparable to a traditional WPC and less springy than PVC. As always, 12" framing is best if you're sensitive to sponginess.

Have you evaluated the Veka Deck Pro product?
@goddi2

Yes, less expansion/contraction is a pro. But the con with Deckorators is the scratching problem, like most of them. I took a sample and just rubbed another sample across it and the surface marred. Hot air gun did not fix it very well. Just about to write off all the composites (maybe except MoistureShield-hot air gun does fix scratches) and going back to pressure treated. Just frustrated with composite cons.

Everything scratches. Some easier than others. Deckorators performs fairly well compared to other companies and PVCs...but there certainly are more scratch resistance options if you're willing to forgo some of the other benefits!

I have been watching your videos which are very helpful, thank you. Now though, I am undecided which product to go with after watching this video. Where we live it can get hot and we have dogs. Speaking of the dogs, they are large, they romp, run, and play, I worry about scratching they can get pretty wild. 🙂 Until this video I was torn between the Trex Transcend line and the TimberTech Legacy or Reserve line. We thought about redwood too but we were told the quality of the current wood is not as good as it used to be. Thoughts?
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop Год назад
Thanks for the feedback! If you're concerned about the large dogs leaving their mark, then of all the options you listed, Trex Transcend would be your best bet. It's more durable than the others. Now you may be giving things up, like traction, thermal stability, warranty, etc by doing that - but if scratch resistance is #1 on the list, then Transcend performs well there. NOW THAT SAID. EVERYTHING SCRATCHES. Nobody warranties scratching, and eventually they will all get some scratches. Just the time, amount, and severity will be less on more durable boards. Redwood would not be a great option as it's a soft lumber that scratches quite easily - HOWEVER, you do at least have the option of sanding it down and making it look new again every few years. But keep in mind, it's the one that's most likely to scratch early and often, so it's only going to look new for a short time. Trex Transcend, Fiberon Promenade, or VEKA Deck all boast fairly good scratch resistance. Good luck with the search!

@@TheUltimateDeckShop, thank you *SO* much for your detailed response! Someone pointed out to us the composite decking gets hotter than wood. We used a device to test the composite samples in different colors and a piece of bare wood. We discovered that it is indeed true that the composite gets quite a bit hotter and we've decided to go with redwood. Our dogs are out outside a lot and our deck is fairly big, so, that was the deal breaker. Dogs rule in our house. 😂 Thank you again, you are knowledgeable and nice. *ADDED:* We are ordering the B heart grade redwood, is that a good choice?

@@justmyopinion2 You're welcome and glad it's been helpful! Redwood is not a common product in our area so while we are familiar with its characteristics, I can speak to what to expect with the different grades. Sorry!

How the Deckorator's Voyage vs Deckorator's Pioneer compare ? Didn't find that information on the web. Seems like Pionner is a Home Depot Exclusivity ?

Does Dekorators offer a labor warranty and do you have to be an authorized installer to offer the labor warranty like Trex?
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop 3 года назад
They do on their primary lines, NOT on box store exclusive lines. 25 year removal and replacement warranty. And no, the warranty doesn't care who installs it as long as it's installed in accordance with their installation instructions.

What is the best scratch-resistant composite decking? I live in the mountains and need to shovel snow off my deck constantly. Thanks!

For composite, probably Trex Transcend line. For PVC, VEKA and Clubhouse are very scratch resistant.

With mineral what about dulling saw blades when cutting?
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop Год назад
It definitely is a little harder on saw blades than the WPC or PVC options are.

Is there a big difference between the voyage and the vault lines? Both are mineral based. . .do you know what the differences are? Is voyage significantly better than vault?
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop 11 месяцев назад
No. Same warranty, same MBC makeup. There are 2 differences... 1. Voyage has a linear grain pattern, Vault has a Cathedral style grain pattern. 2. Voyage has "enhanced traction" so it's a 10/10 for traction, while Vault would be like an 8/10. Aside from different colour options, that's the only difference.

Okay so it scratches easily, how about heat retention? A heat gun will take scratches out of PVC decking like Azek.
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop 3 года назад
Deckorators doesn't perform any better or worse than comparable products with regards to heat. A heat gun will also help with minor scratches in Deckorators.

I installed the Deckorators Voyage line on an 1100 sq ft deck, not a cheap project. Their warranty is a joke. They shipped one bad board. $140 for the board plus install cost which I guess I will have to eat. Here's the kicker: They think I can install it myself or have someone do it for $25!!! I can't get a neighborhood kid to cut my quarter acre lawn for $25. If they are not prepared to come to my house and do a 20 minute install after a year of communicating, then their warranty is not worth crap. I'll pay it myself. But be forewarned. You are on your own.

What about Wear Deck
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop 11 месяцев назад
We don't have any real world experience with it... just at trade shows. Seems to be a very strong board, but at least up until current, only solid colour boards with no variagation. Most who have used it, like it.

I will sue Deckorators in small claims court. Just because I spent $66K for this deck and they won't take care of one measly board replacement that's obviously defective.

Deckorators needs to improve their manufacturing. The machines periodically smash down the ridges in the board. It appears whitish. Color is not always thorough from end to end.

Sounds like you've had a bad experience. I would submit a warranty claim. The issues you've described on these last 3 comments are not typical from what we have seen over the past 4 years as a dealer.

I did file. We are still battling because they won't send a technician to install a 20 foot board. They want me to find someone for $25!! I can't get someone in the 9th grade to cut my lawn for $25.@@TheUltimateDeckShop

Deckorators is hot garbage. The boards aren’t the same width. It’s not worth the extra money
@TheUltimateDeckShop
@TheUltimateDeckShop 2 года назад
We'll agree to disagree. Deckorators is one of the most consistent dimensioned boards out there. While we have seen up to 1/16" variances in rare cases, it's much better than the 1/8" variances that we seem to see from Trex, Fiberon, and TimberTech and in much more common occurrence - especially Trex. It's also not any "extra money". The lines are all comparably priced.
