Fatty Liver can be mild and symptomless, but if it progresses to NASH, it can sometimes cause symptoms like unexplained lethargy, loss of appetite, vague abdominal pain and may even lead to liver damage.
Complications of NASH: It increases the risk of cirrhosis-related liver failure and liver cancer, which could require a liver transplant. The average life expectancy for someone with cirrhosis of advanced liver disease is about 9 to 12 years. However, NAFLD (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) greatly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and decreases life expectancy in adults.
In this video, the sixth in a series on "Fatty Liver Disease", Dr Anusha A. S., Consultant Physician at Kauvery Hospital, Radial Road, Chennai, provides awareness or information about this very common yet lesser-known chronic condition.
