Actually the career changing incident that Awakened The MONSTER Inside Roger Federer was death of his coach Peter Carter in 2002. He described it in multiple interviews that he wanted to get rid of his anger and be a better man for Peter after he died.

I couldn’t agree more. The 2003 Masters Cup was a turning point in his career. The way he beat Agassi in the final showed that something had changed on him, which was sailed with his amazing victory at the 2004 Australian Open. He eased past the likes of Nalbandian, Ferrero, Hewitt and Safin.

Anybody can just load some highlights, or a match, give it a title, and call it good. But, by detailing the pre-history, it allows for a more in-depth and educated understanding of the context of the match in question! Great job!

Roger Federer is the greatest of all time - if only for the fact that he's the one who set the standard and has only very recently stopped being chased. Federer raised the game to that level; Nadal and Djokovic spent 15+ years trying to catch up.

True self belief can be ever so elusive, even for a genius like Roger. Once he removed that monkey from his back, he never looked back. In the beginning no one questioned Roger's undeniable gifts, but his emotions were a problem. Until they no longer were.

Some of his major records are broken by his two rivals Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal but he still ended up with, most Wimbledon titles, 103 career titles, Most consecutive weeks at no. 1 spot, most consecutive Grand slam Finals, SF and QF and many more.

Pretty cool bit of early federer history most people don't know

This feels like the equivalent of if FAA won Wimbledon this year and then all of a sudden started dominating the tour. I’ve been secretly hoping for something like this to happen to one of the young players, but they still feel too mentally fragile or have big weaknesses in their game.

Actually Federer taming his monster is what turned him into the goat. He was a whiny brat to start his career and he'd go on tilt after points like that until he learned to stay calm and be mature.

He was always my favorite player. However I find it hard to call him the best. I would definitely do it if Đoković and Nadal didn't exist, but with them accomplishing what they accomplished and having better 1v1 record against him makes everything different.
