I rescued my chameleon from the wild. I live in Malta but I’m English and found her on a roof where I was working being cornered by 2 cats that were attacking her. So I picked her up went to release her in a field with lot’s of trees as me and my son went to put her in a tree we were amazed as she kept coming back to us...I mean she kept coming towards us. So I did some research with your help got an enclosure and 5 months on she is a happy member of our family. She’s a common but not to us she is special. She loves being hand fed crickets and mealworms Thanks for all your videos it’s been very helpful.

None will smell if kept correctly. You can breed crickets using vermiculite as bedding and that will erase the smell. I breed Dubia Roaches, Mealworms, Waxworms, Crickets, and Superworms in my room and I live in a single wide trailer. Dubia Roaches are amazing because they have a slow metabolism therefore your gut load lasts several days. Crickets, mealworms, and superworms are a lot faster. So you have to pretty much gutlod them the night prior to feeding and feed them off the next day.

Yeah black soldier fly larvae stink pretty bad! I had to give them a "bath" it got so bad. And when I let kiwis sit too long in the gut leader cup, I had to give my dubias a bath lol. User error for sure on that one 🤢

Thanks for all your amazing videos. We are 1 week into our new 3.5 month old male panther chameleon and you have helped us a TON. Question about BSFL vs. crickets. Want to make sure he is getting enough each day. TIA!!

placing my first JF order because of you :) I hate crickets because of the jumping and smell, but dubias aren't allowed in my state (finding this out was heartbreaking lol). I cant imagine potentially flying feeders are better, but I'm considering BSF larvae and maybe silkworms as a staple instead.
@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 3 года назад
There are plenty of other roach species that are legal in FL (along with other states). You'll want to pick a bug that is high in protein for a staple feeder. BSFL and silkworms are great, but they don't have exoskeletons and the protein levels you'll find in roaches and crickets.

@ghostiease
@ghostiease 4 года назад
Neptune the Chameleon awesome! So you don’t feed them more of one kind than an other, just an even variation?
@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 4 года назад
'Staple foods' refers to the foods keepers feed the majority of the time which is usually roaches, silkworms, and crickets. So those are the ones that get feed the most often. I personally feed my chams dubias and flies the most. BSFLs and superworms are probably the bugs I feed the next most often. And wax worms and hornworms are definitely treats so I'll only order a few of those and feed them throughout the month.

Do u have any advice on what to feed a baby veiled chameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon

The only bug I would hold off on feeding for now would be a hornworm since those get really big, very quickly.

@NeptunetheChameleon

Josefina Davy You can feed a baby cham everything I recommended besides the hornworms. Hornworms will get too big, too fast for a baby cham.

is it okay to feed a younger/smaller chameleon these? will my little guy choke?
@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 3 года назад
The guidance is to not feeder them any bugs bigger than the width between their eyes. So just make sure the bugs are small enough and don't feed them hornworms until the are closer to 8 months old.

im new to this since I only have a creasted gecko and I don’t feed bugs and i’m planning to get a veiled chameleon maybe in 3 months or when i’m ready but will i need to go to the store a lot or can i grow like my own “colony” or so of the different kinds of feeders
@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 3 года назад
Jasmine Andrade You can certainly breed your own bugs. This isn’t something I’ve done before, so I can’t really offer any advice on how to do it. But there are tons of resources available that will help. I just buy my bugs in bulk which will last me around 2 months before needing to buy more.

Today I bought a 4-month-old veiled chameleon male and I put it in a bird cage temporarily, but from the time I put it in it it got stuck in the side and in the same area and doesn’t move. Is that normal ?? Also, what can I feed her other than insects because they are not available?
@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 4 года назад
No it is not normal for a chameleon to get stuck in a cage. But it is also not normal to keep chameleon's in a bird cage. This is why there are cages built specifically for chameleons. Look into getting a Zoo Med XL Reptibreeze that is 24"x24"x48". And to answer your other question about diet, no. Chameleons are insectivores so they need to eat bugs. If you can't buy bugs locally, considering buying them online or breeding your own. Here are some places you can buy bugs from: www.chameleonforums.com/sponsors/

There aren't many worms that are high in protein and most are just fatty, treat bugs so I wouldn't feed just worms. If you're not comfortable feeding roaches, I'd suggest you feed your chameleon crickets in addition to worms.

Any ideas on why a 5 month old (Panther) chameleon would actively start avoiding crickets and roaches? Everything was fine until his 2nd shed. This was 3 weeks ago and he has only eaten one cricket. He will eat meal and super worms but I know he needs more in his diet. I just don't understand where the aversion came from??
@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 3 года назад
Because mealworms and superworms are high in fat. They’re basically candy bugs and the other bugs are broccoli. Here is my video about how to get them to eat the healthier bugs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-waCeIkQE1hw.html
