What can I wear on a P&O Cruise?

Hi Mathew, thank you so much for this video. It is my first time on a cruise and have been worrying about what to take to wear. Really helpful

I took cocktail dresses for the less formal nights, some long dresses for formal nights, Arctic weather gear for time outside in Norway in November. I even took my gym clothes. What did I forget? I forgot daytime casual! Yup. I had the jeans I’d traveled in and nothing else. I had to buy a pair of cords from the shop and a pair of shoes! Oh well, no serious problems, I can laugh about it now.

Great video :) here on p&o Australia our formal night is the "Gatsby night" so you dress up with all frills and tassels and a headpiece for ladies, guys are in suits or tux :), we also have the "white night" where you wear white of course hehe and a "back to school" night, where you dress in school uniform or teacher attire :) we do have special themed cruises that are usually 3 nights too like "Elvis" cruises or "80s cruises" etc :)

on our next p&o cruise we are taking regular holiday gear... granted a few smarter bits.... but no trousers, suits, ties or waistcoats.... we eat in the buffet as the main dining room is to is weird... you get stuck with people you don't know then all sit waiting for the last person to finish all the way..... we like our own company too much............... we have tried the dressed up thing and in the Caribbean its no fun at all... we end up changing as soon as the meal is over into clothing that's not like being in a blast furnace!

Thanks for another really helpful video! I have a question, and it might be a silly one. After you've been to the pool, are there changing rooms so you can change before going back to your room? Or is it a case of using a bathrobe or similar and changing when you're back? It's our first cruise and one of the things I've been wondering about!

Quick question regarding wearing trainers on a smart casual evening: How strict is this? I generally like to wear very smart dark trainers and trainer type shoes of an evening and was hoping that would be acceptable onboard. I don't think anybody would claim that I am not dressed smartly but and I would be appalled to be turned away from a bar or restaurant for wearing them. It hasn't ever been an issue on any other cruise line. I'm going on Iona in October and any advice/info would be much appreciated. Cheers.

I have been cruising for the past 14 years now, and found the dress code gradually not being enforced, particularly on P&O. Half the guys in tuxedos, with the rest in smart trousers and open necked shirts, whereas everyone seemed to dress up a few years ago. The cruise industry has become cutthroat, so they don’t want to upset any guests when the choice of cruise line is huge.

Could you wear dark coloured chinos in the evening and a polo tshirt?
