My X70 was in need of repair, so what could I replace it with for street photography? A Canon? Leica? Panasonic? Sony? Ricoh? Olympus? Follow me as I find the camera good enough to be my street shooter of choice.
Nice work mate. The more noise we make about a new X80 the more likely they are to listen. I agree with everything you said about this brilliant little camera.
Hello Greg ….. good video! If, at the end of the day, your X70 is kicking around - like mine! I bought my X70 in 2016 for Street Photography project - I wasn’t cutout for taking ‘candid’ people images! People in UK don’t take kindly to being photographed! I suggest you get it converted to Infrared 720nm! I got mine converted by Advanced Camera Services (ACS) UK, good autofocus, absolutely sharp and no hot-spot problems whatsoever! From my part, it was a total gamble but it paid off! X70 will accompany me - for my next project which will be Colour landscape of Snowdonia but with odd IR720 images with ND1000 filter!
Phew, I'm so glad you are able to find another one! It would be my worst nightmare to lose mine, which drew me to your video to see who can replace this one. This brilliant little camera is amazing and packed with so many nice features. I really appreciate the physical dials and the flip screen!
Really good points. I keep asking myself the same question every day. This is the most useful camera I ever had, the one I shot the most in my life, it is always with me, and I do hope Fujifilm comes up with an update. I love the X70 and can't wait to see an X80 or whatever they call it.
Great build-up.. true love affair with a great camera. Just picked one up and I'm blown away. Even for it's time it has decent wifi capabilities. Thanks and keep it up!
I had similar issues with mine. Sent it to Fujifilm in Sydney and they got it back to me good as new for about $100. I’ll never sell mine, they’re amazing little cameras.
Absolutely brilliant Greg! I have only just recently come across your channel Greg! Your content is so inspiring! I was thoroughly! entertained! keep it coming Greg! I loved it man!
Just got over this video. Ive been using months trying to find out which camera I should by. Since Im a student my budget is pretty tight, but I want a good camera. This video convinced me that I NEED Fuji X70, and I must buy it at once. So now im 600 dollars poorer, but a Fuji X70 is on its way to me 🤩 And btw, I loved this format, you should do it more often. Cheers from Ola in Norway!
"Gateway drug!" same here - though I happened to pick the X70 new, wanting smallest possible APSC sensor. Then did get an XE2S to add wider lenses...and then an old XM1 for a smaller cheaper package with some of those lenses. I didn't mean to love the XM1, without those manual controls, but it seems to produce some beautiful pictures. New XE4 looks interesting with the flippy touchscreen and manual controls (though sadly missing focus switch)
Aaaand it is... well, what could be better? :D Now it's finally getting closer to what I can afford, if I can find one! I think one reason why I can't remember the manual settings is that I don't see them on my current camera (Canon 40D that I got cheap). On this, they are very visible and the camera is more portable too.
I used my silver X70 as a partial trade for an X100F a couple of months ago . . . but not before snapping up a mint-condition black X70 on eBay. I bought that silver X70 a few months after they were introduced, and once that little camera got in my bloodstream I was hooked for life. I can’t imagine not having one, and if I can find some extra $$ one of these days I will buy another one to keep in reserve. I have no illusions that there will ever be an X80, and even if there were, it just wouldn’t be an X70.
It's unfortunate Fuji discontinued this line and didn't release an x80 or something. You can still get a second hand one with excellent condition for around US$400 in Asia, not sure about Australia. This camera is so good for those who love good quality shooting without the bulk and it's so discreet, not to mention how good this camera looks.
I, and many others, would agree with you. I’m fortunate, I found a really great example and it should serve me well for years to come. Nothing else like it.
If they could somehow conjure up an 18mm f/2.8 pancake that was a few mm flatter than the 27mm f/2.8, that'd be my choice for an X70 replacement (with an X-T30). I did very much love my X70, but I've put it up for sale as I don't really want to have two cameras.
I also have both (and a couple of other fujifilms) but would keep my X70 over my X-T30 as I have an X-T2. I use my X70 more often than the others as it's so easy and small to have with me. The X-T30 is lovely, but not quite small enough for an everyday carry around, and too small for my professional use.
I guessed the twist early but it speaks volumes that there's not much out there that will do the same job. Would you still recommend it for portrait photography given that it's a fixed 28mm? Great video by the way. Greetings from the UK.
For street photography and my 'always with me' walk around camera it's superb. If I know I'm going out to take portraits I would pack my 56mm 1.2 on my X-T2 instead
I doubt there will be an X70, but I am still hoping. My XQ-2 is a nice small substitute but the 2/3" sensor leaves something to be desired. The Lumix LX-10 is the closest thing to an X70 right now, but still only a 1" sensor.
Yes it’s a Lovely Camera, Pitt it hasn’t a VF. I too Cary mine everyday it’s my favourite compact. ATM Fuji is not coming out with a replacement. Fix it and keep it as it’s we’ll sought after😉
No longer. Someone else has it now. I tried the X100V for two years and just didn't like it, so I have found the X-E4 is just what I'm after. Basically an X70 that can change lenses.
one year and a half later, I think for similar price, XA7 or XT200 with fuji 16mm F2.8 is a much better choice, much better video quality and focus speed, also with better flippy screen and changeable lens. Also Fuji has a lot small fix lens available that is comparable small to replace X70/X100
Yes there is, as the focus ring turns into a control ring. I don't use it like that though as I keep it as a focus ring at all times. The quality is fine, there's 16MB to play with which is more than enough for decent size prints, and way more than enough for any internet use.
@@GregCarrick thanks for your response Greg. That's great. It opens up another option creatively. Nice to have. The Ricoh gr does a similar thing, though the quality nosedives from what I've seen.
Great video my dude! What camera came closest to replacing the X70? GRIII? I’ve had my x70 since Dec 2016 and have loved it everyday. It’s got a few of the issues as yours and I’m in a similar situation now, leaning toward GRIII or X100V. Good luck, friend!
Big camera companies keep making huge corporate ‘strategic’ mistakes - FujiFilm decided to stop the manufacturer of the X70! Which Director made that mistake? He/She should be dismissed! The only improvement from X70 to an X80 I would add IBIS Sensor, upgraded to either an APS-C 24 or 30 megapixel and remove the (useless) flash and replace with EVF (pop-up type)! All in the same form factor! Simples! Maybe, FujiFilm were losing sales from other models in favour of X70! Thank goodness I bought the X70 (Black) when it was marketed in 2016!
