People have asked what kind of "projects" can be done with a Harbor Freight or any "towable trencher". I show some of the things I've done. I forgot to mention I dug out the "parking pads" where you see the car parked. List in the comments things you've done with yours.

Mines ran power lines, sewer lines, dug drainage ditches, extended a leach bed and its about to dig out a septic tank hole and some footings for my garage. They are actually pretty useful and times not an issue when you own it. I hear alot of griping from so called experts about how bad they are but I'm happy with mine after 3 years of ownership.

Great video! Just like you, I’m always coming up with new projects for my HFT, and it never disappoints. That grease pit is a wonderful idea and now I need to think about where I can build one of my own. Keep the videos coming. They are always inspiring. I must say I had to avoid your channel for a couple of weeks while my trencher was out of commission, because you always make me want to fire up that thing and DIG!

Thanks Shawne, that grease pit has been one of the best things I've done here. I use it all the time. I even back the mowers and bush hog over it and sharpen the blades without taking them off.

I just my trencher, I' watched a lot of videos before buying one, been 8 ,10 years before pulling the trigger, but I've watched some ,not all of your videos I've noticed you say a lot don't mean to make this video long ,people don't like long videos, well I'm gonna go ahead and say it for most of us ,you videos are some of the most informant out there ,so being long winded is a good thing , some others are not so great ,I'll just shut them down and keep looking for other videos. Keep up the good work and keep the long videos coming, I've learned a lot from you thanks ,from the towable community

Good video again,yes great little machines, I've done basically the same plus dug out a caravan base. I'm also thinking of doing a road through a woodland on a hill. As you say their very safe on slopes although I did once go over the top of the controls on one very steep project 😂

I did a duck pond too. I have clay soil and it holds the water for many weeks. I did add an air driven water pump just to circulate the water. Eventually to move water to the top of a waterfall feature give the pond more oxygen. Right now I'm using mine to move a few truckloads of wood chips the tree trimmers dropped off, from the front to the backyard.
@DoubleMFarmHomestead
@DoubleMFarmHomestead Год назад
I also have clay and it holds water very good. I like the waterfall idea. I may try that in mine. It's amazing how many things we can find to do with the trencher.

Some more things that can be done with one. You can tamp with it by lifting and dropping the bucket, or by sliding it towards you as you curl the bucket. You can swing it to level soft, uneven dirt. like when you back fill a trench. You can sink posts like your duck fencing has or larger posts depending on the condition of the ground and strength of the posts. If you want them to be straight, you have to operate two sticks at the same time to eliminate the arcing. You want to push straight down with the bucket. Banging a pipe vertically into the ground may also work. You can make a slicer tooth for it to replace the bucket. AND you can make a blade to level off and smooth that replaces the bucket or fixes onto the bucket.

Thank you for this informative video. Do you think the trencher is capable of digging for a storm shelter?
@DoubleMFarmHomestead
@DoubleMFarmHomestead Год назад
Yes, I am going to be doing a storm shelter with mine sometime soon. If you have never used a "towable excavator" I would suggest doing some smaller jobs first to get a feel for how it works. The biggest thing about these is the fact that they do not swivel around so you are limited on where you can put the dirt you dig. Thanks for watching and keep me posted.
@mimosamodern
@mimosamodern Год назад
@@DoubleMFarmHomestead Absolutely! I've never operated a backhoe before but there will be PLENTY of other jobs on which to practice before I get to the storm shelter. Thanks!

Question aboot the grease fittings on the pivot pin. Are you able to replace them with extended fittings? Or would they break off when the boom swings?
@DoubleMFarmHomestead
@DoubleMFarmHomestead Год назад
There is room to put extended fittings. The stock fittings are recessed in there. I have thought about doing it but just never got around to it.
@kiltedbroshar4187
@kiltedbroshar4187 Год назад
@@DoubleMFarmHomestead well my first thought was to put extended ones in. Bc everyone says those are the most difficult ones to reach

@@DoubleMFarmHomestead Goats are the funniest! Thx for the reply Henry! I got lucky and found one local for sale a week ago! The gentleman had only used it a few times and I was able to grab it for under what it’s being sold at the moment, plus not have to wait for shipping, and he had the extra tires rig. It has typical damage, like the wear on the outriggers pin hole and he also bent to heck the pin for the boom! He was bending it more while trying to get it tow ready for me! He was using it on full throttle so it was jerking the machine around way too hard. Just user error. Other than that it is in complete new shape! We have a Kioti LS2610 tractor I am the main operator for, as well as having a Ford LGT 14D I want to use to haul the backhoe around the property. I’ve operated mini excavators before on our homestead when we had to dig a water line and it was so much fun! I really can’t wait to put it to use and post videos of it. Thx again for putting so much info out on these!

How much can it lift?
@DoubleMFarmHomestead
@DoubleMFarmHomestead Год назад
You know Skip, I'm not sure what the lift rating is. I've looked in the manual and can't find it. All I can tell you is I've picked up several logs (one was 12" dia. and 10' long), some large stumps and lifted a 4 cyl. engine from an old truck with it. I did have the other end hooked to my tractor to keep it from tipping for that engine lift. It's all about angle and reach. LOL

@@DoubleMFarmHomestead thanks for getting back, planning to use a backhoe for a cabin build, that's why I'm trying to find out how much one will lift, may go with the Janson 300, able to lift 1850lbs, still searching.
