Harbor Freight towable trencher/backhoe dragging a boulder out of the ground.

If you think the Harbor Freight towable trencher/backhoe is a toy... you probably should watch this video. Anybody wanna take a guess on the weight of this rock? I live in North central Arkansas and rocks seem to grow out in the lawn. This rock actually started out as a little 4" protrusion that would snag the mower deck. Over a period of 10 years, it turned into a 6" or 7" obstacle that had to be avoided by the mower. This is what I found as I dug to remove that little mowing annoyance.

Dang, that is way more powerful than I expected. I figured that machine was built from tinfoil and would break touching a rock that size. I was proven so very wrong. Makes me want one for my farm now.

I've seen these things damaged from over stress. They have damaged buckets and cylinders. A tremendously useful device if you stay within their limitations. I don't know if they lack pressure relief valves or if they are not properly set. This looks like a man with man with machine vs rock feud.

You are exactly right Patrick. I was determined to unearth that rock. It was only a small tip exposed to the surface of my lawn. Tired of mowing around and often hitting it... I discovered that it was much larger than what I had expected, but I wasn't about to give up without a fight ;-)

Remove the thumb since it's locked in one position and it should work much better.

It could come in handy in combination with small tractor or a 4 wheeler.

You are right. I have a small Kubota with a front end loader. Welded a ball on top of the bucket to manuver the digger around.

I really want one of these little backhoes, but I have to have electric start. I don't buy any engine that doesn't have electric start. Guess I'll check out the northern tool version.

Nice work. If you were to pick up a rock with straps what do you think the weight limit would be?
@mountainviewdroneman
@mountainviewdroneman Год назад
I'd guess around 1500 lbs.

The bucket itself can lift about 300 pounds.

Yes, you are right. I was lazy, didn't feel like folding the thumb up out of the way.

@Scott.Farkus lol 😆 I've had to back off and cover up my mess, when I tackle one that's too large for my equipment. I just add more dirt to cover up the iceberg. 🤣
