I agree now you don't need to keep the other graders as 2nd or even 3rd class graders, free to kick the can on anyone. I felt like you owed something to PSA that kind of held you back.
Ppl really are clueless. All these gary v noobs gravitated to psa for ez 10s while bgs has always had the superior grading standards. 90 percent of bgs 9.5 true gems are psa 10 quality. Bgs cases also superior. Dont get me wrong tho. I love selling gary v noobs fluffy psa 10s
Haha! Hilarious comment and after having PSA and BGS slabs I’d have to agree. BGS slabs are thicker (better protection) and what really wins me over which no one seems to talk about is the fact that BGS actually (as Matt said) put them in vacuum sealed plastic bags. I’ve had 2 PSA slabs now with cards stuck to the inside of the slab due to moisture - seriously pisses me right off when you are dropping your hard earned money on this stuff. Makes no sense why they are the ‘superior’ company... more like flavour of the month for all the new young investors. I really hope as the hobby evolves and the true collectors/investors stay that people see the real value in BGS.

PSA 10s have always been harder to get than BGS 9.5 and now since Nat bought PSA, 10s are lot less common than BGS 9.5s. I think the reason PSA goes for more is that they are the market leader in grading cards; they started grading cards first, they added the holographic lighthouse to the labels to slabs to prevent fakes being sold, they raised prices before everyone else and stopped accepting cards, not to mention they just bought an A.I. company to help identify cards. Beckett has not innovated nor made any changes in the last couple of years. Fake BGS cases hit the market and they have done nothing to fool proof the slab. I think a lot of collectors don’t like how BGS is just resting on their laurels.
I have a Steve Nash Chrome RC BGS 9.5 with 2 10 subgrades. Im 1 10 away from a BGS Pristine, i tried to sell it to someone and he offered me 200 because its BGS. PSA 10s have sold for over 2000 dollars, most recent was last week. I told him to send it to PSA and get a 10 if he's hung up on trivial shit like that.
If you ever held a 90s beckett price guide in your hands back when baseball and basketball was full of awesome heros you probably agree Beckett holds that original feeling of happiness in our hearts. Beckett is my favorite grading company for many reasons. The classic black and gold is exquisite.
Honestly would like to see a bigger spread of cards among the top 3 grading companies. I think it’s better for collectors and investors alike. When one grading company has too much market share, i.e. PSA, an “inflation” seems to occur and can be more risky for those submitting for grading and those buying the cards after it’s graded. PSA bubble burst ahead, maybe? Just my piece. Thanks!

Personally when I was a collector PSA was my least favorite of BGS or SGC. It didn't even have to do with the grading or pricing. If you notice PSA encapsulation the cards rock from within the encapsulation and are not secure. This leaves the cards vulnerable to damage from within encapsulation (edges)
Vintage & junk wax cards should be send to PSA & modern cards should be send to Beckett. I have that Berry Bonds tiffany card raw I'm thinking I should try new grading company called HGA I heard they grade like Beckett scale. Love to see you make a video on how new grading company's are holding up against PSA/Beckett.
The way Beckett protects your precious card with their vacuum sealed plastic and robust yet clean and neat case hands down Beckett is an awesome grading service. PSA is cool too for many cards but they are getting over exposed and it might be a bubble. Top PC collectors seem to enjoy Beckett more. I like both companies myself. Beckett looks so nice with the classic black and gold label.
Fantastic video Matt. I prefer BGS myself. I tend to aim for BGS or SGC for my pc and PSA for flipping if I want to make some cash. I’ve had moisture in my PSA slabs and the cards tend to move around a bit which is definitely what we don’t want! I haven’t had those issues with BGS. I don’t hate PSA but I do feel they are overrated.
I really liked this vid, and the way u are now comparing PSA & BGS. It was very informative and it helped push me to send off some of my thicker stock high end investment cards to BGS. Also, I was really pleased to hear that a BGS 10 is considerably more valuable than a PSA 10. A while back I purchased an Ohtani '18 topps on demand 3D BGS 10 for $100. I figured it wasn't worth much more than a PSA 10. Now I understand why some are now selling for thousands in BGS 10 vs PSA 10 selling for a few hundred. Looking forward to more informative vids 👍🏾

I totally agree with you that autograph cards looks better in BGS slabs. For the past ten years I have been sending all my RPA’s and autograph cards to Beckett for grading with a positive outcome. Hands down Beckett is the place to send your patch Autograph cards!!
call me crazy but i think the reason they sold for more (bgs over psa) was because they actually authenticated the autos.. the print on the psa slabs are small so it may be on there (or it might not be), but you can t overlook that giant gold 10 for the autos on the bgs slabs

Im sorry but PSA is not #1 in the hobby. In terms of customer service, turn around times, consistent grading, no way they are #1. Resale Value? Sure if thats what you mean by #1. But this video proves even others outsell psa.
Beckett isn’t any better at turn around times. Bgs 10 and black labels are unicorns. You are not going to get them when you submit to them. Right now PSA is by far better than other companies because they sell for considerably more
Resell value is # 1 priority, atleast for me. Until psa lowers their Price I would only consider them if I have a potentially high value card in good condition
So, Auto's, die Cut, Jersey cards, low numbered, high end, and prizm does well in BGS. Good summary; basically anything modern IMO looks good in BGS. PSA looks good with vintage/early 90's pre-chrome for me... or any basic cardboard cards. Really like BGS more sturdy cases, inner sleeve, and sub grades. Seems like most "collectors" like their PC in with BGS; and PSA to flip.
Hey Matt just a question from one of your subs I have a set of 93 scoring kings and many other but mainly a lot of 90 with the scoring kings set who would you send it to the me looks really good to me and I have two shaqs that also look really good what would you recommend be for the scoring kings and the most of the other 90 I have the usuals power in the key team leaders total d bean teams heap of othe Jordan’s what do you think I’m really torn on the scoring kings set if you could give any advice that would be great I saw the Robinson returns do you think on your opinion that when you sent them that they were Equals In quality did you think you would have got the same grades or was the 9 noticeably better
Honestly, I would submit those to PSA. I think you’ll have an easier time selling a PSA 8 over a BGS 8 or even a 9. 90’s foil cards are tough to grade even when they’re pack fresh so getting a BGS 10 will be next to impossible. Plus, PSA will be cheaper 👍
@@GRADEDCARDINVESTOR I also have a lot 86 87 2 sets one has both jordans graded the other I only have the sticker not graded also have the 87/88 88/89 89/90 I have all Jordan’s graded but there are some doubles as I bought the sets after I had the Jordan’s do you still feel psa is the place to send them I was thinking mainly just like the HOF and I have the Nike promo set I was thinking sgc on that one as I’ve seen some and they look great in the holders and then I’ve got some 85 86 star cards like the 5x7 team supers set 5x7 court kings series 1 I think court kings the one with the Jordan and then some of the other Jordan’s from that time frame I have heard that psa don’t grade star is that true and if so do you know if sgc do cause I think it would cost me quite a bit of cash to send them to bgs especially considering that I’m from Australia and the exchange rate isn’t the best it’s still not bad considering the past just interested in hearing your take on this Also can’t believe you actually took the time to read the comment you really got my respect with that
I think another thing you have to consider on the Luka is PWCC was selling it. They have so many people that watch their items and trust buying with them instead of a (insert name) seller. I'm just wondering with the PSA shutdown how people respond to newer cards graded by BGS and the others. Was weird seeing BGS Burrow with no subs sell higher than the PSA but it may be because there aren't many comps in PSA because of the shutdown. Great video and I still prefer BGS as a collector.
Excellent topic! I look at a lot of card through a 10x magnifier. Does PSA typical grade tougher on card surfaces? Or does Beckett typically grade tougher on card surfaces?
Good stuff I hope bgs can get back a little closer to psa would be good for the hobby. Psa has a stranglehold on everyone else right. Now. No point in comparing a bgs 10 vs psa 10 because they are not the same bgs 9.5 according to there scale is the same as a psa 10
I like the BGS cases cause its thicker and seems to be better quality, but I dont like the silver BGS grades(9 or less). I think the gold BGS labels(9.5+)looks great. SGC should really upgrade their boring ass labels, even tho the tux style cases are cool for some cards, the grading label is way too dull and boring. I think if SGC can make the 9.5s or 10s label more colorful and fun, it would attract more people.
Am i the one who gets discouraged by psa because of the “declared value” fee ?? Especially how it can change (upcharge if the value of the card goes up) by the time you get your card(s) 3-6 months later

looking thru my pc, alot of my biggest cards (jordan nike, kobe on-card auto, bulls pocket sked) all happen to be bgs. not sure of the cost between them and psa but i dont mind either one honestly
Part of the problem with resale prices is that a lot of people seem unaware of how to use the BGS scale. A BGS 9.5 is the same thing as a PSA 10. They are both Gem Mint. A BGS 10 is Pristine. Somehow, collectors as a group got it in their head that a PSA 10 is grade higher than a BGS 9.5.
Hey, got a question for ya. I have a dilemma. I have a N.T. Chase Young 'The Future' auto 1/25 & it's a beautiful card, but the centering on the back is 60/40 left-right. Everything else is flawless. Do u think PSA would drop it to a 9 because of the off center on the back? I'm considering maybe sending it to BGS since the subgrade for centering may be a 9, but the overall grade should still garner a 9.5 ...whatcha think??
I would go with whatever case you like the best. If you're going for resale value you might be better off in a PSA case, however, since it's 1 of only 25 the rarity alone makes it collectible. Since PSA has been inconsistent with their grading lately you may very well get a PSA 9 so submitting to Beckett and getting a 9.5 would probably be better if that happens. So it always boils down to what case do you like better?

What about a black matte RPA? I have a burrow midnight RPA redemption from national treasures out of 20. People are saying the matte are tough grades on the surface
Do you have a rule of thumb for pricing BGS 10 graded cards? I've seen a range of 2x-4x a PSA 10 price. Maybe it's just tough because the pop reports and the given card? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2015 Donruss Foil Die cut Lebron #21/23. Literally cannot find comps. Pretty sure im gonna submit for grading as its just a sick card and hell....its a /23 lebron. Will be my first submission. Actually considering SGC. Its not a 10. Centering, surface and corners are great, but the edges aren't perfect. Tough with the die cuts. Any recommendations on how to figure out value? Its not a huge deal, as its a long term PC card...but just to have an idea would be nice.
the explanation on the burrow contenders is pretty simple. the card market has continued to soften like a mudder fugger and a month went by in between that bgs 9 burrow nad that psa 9 burrow
I know PSA has better market value but I like BGS just as much. My only problem is that Sub grades can push a card that should be graded lower to a higher grade because 3/4 sub grades being really good therefore like that Bonds centering on that BGS 9 the eye appeal is not there. I like how hard SGC grades but there cases are so ugly at least for most cards.
Hey Matt i come from a another tcg collector game and i do notice buyers prefering psa over bgs. Imo bgs with its subgrades, colored 10s and pristines have a much better description of the card and appeal all around that being said why do you think buyers prefer psa and value it higher?
For someone who cant drop $300 / card w psa, is BGS and PSA the only 2 grading companies you'd consider? Or does SGC ever make sense for some cards, considering the recent press from you large youtubers, influencer's, etc?
Your also sleeping on SGC. I honestly prefer the tux look over the other 2, I prefer to pc in the tux. Selling value on SGC is about the same as BGS also. But I do collect all 3 companies
I submit my cards at chantilly in person to save on shipping/ease my nerves and psa has no presence there which is shocking since its a top 3 or 4 show in the country so I submit my cards to beckett.
Hi Matt, love your vids, keep up the great work! I'm just wondering why BGS gets such a bad wrap from dealers I have spoken to, they say BGS is a laughing stock. For me I love BGS cases, they also publish the Beckett book which used to be a bible back in the 90's when i started collecting to negotiate prices, they justify there grading in subgrades and there prices to grade cards are realistic, and don't hold your cards ransom on an upcharge. They have pristine 10's, black label, so many ways to be fair when grading. I struggle so hard to understand why PSA is on this 'Jack n the bean stalk' pedestal that nobody dare challenge. Anyway, that's my rant, hope to have a reply and cheers.

What type of camera do use to record , is it one camera with duo lense or two at the same time and you splice both videos . My friends kids want to start a youtube
I use the Canon M50 for the front camera and my iphone for the overhead. Any smart phone will work fine for starting out a RU-vid channel. As long as it was made around 2019 or later 👍🏻
No idea why BGS is not as popular. I’ve submitted with the big 3 before. Love the BGS slabs and the sub grades. Hate that PSA has value limits as if it costs more to grade one card vs the other. Also hate with PSA you get cards back with no idea why it came back a 9. A lot is personal preference and whether you are flipping or keeping the card for your PC.
I just had my jordan 1986 fleer rookie authenticated as real by my local sports card shop. And it’s really clean!! So what company do I send this in to, PSA OR BGS
Hey bro good over all info, in my however looking back 2 sales doesn’t give you a accurate over all average value. There was a 1997 topps chrome Kobe refractor #171 bgs 9.5 sold for 14k. 3 days later i swooped same card same grade for 5.8k. Then anorher 5 days later One sold for 12k. Every back to back transaction won’t always be close to each other. I think looking about the last 4-5 transaction and then average it out would be better way of judging price
I think it would do bgs alot of good to change things up a little bit. They need to upgrade their flip imo. The case is fine but they could redesign the look of the flip like psa and sgc has. Bgs should have the same label across the board. Get rid of the cheap white labels on 8s and below for one thing.
Lol I agree 100% on those nasty white labels! Also, they have a LOT to improve with their submission process and online pop reports.. they do have the bgs 10 and black label cases going for them though.

If I had to choose between psa and bgs. I would probably go with bgs. love the sub grades of bgs. But favourite slabs are the new hga slabs. Color matched labels look awesome.
I'll just buy "cheap" BGS 9.5 cards with 10 centering, since people want PSAs instead, regrade them at PSA get 10 on it, and re-sell it for 2x the price. Looks like this is gonna be how you flip cards from here on out.
