I mean I knew about it, I just didn’t find a good way to implement it into the script so I didn’t talk about it. But you can see at the end of the video I put it in b-tier
@Kirblae Fair, but for most maps in double dash, the gimmiks and mechanics can only go so far with the premise of the game itself. If you rank double dash tracks next to all the other base form tracks, then they wouldn't fair well. So, for the game itself, Luigis Circuit can be seen as the best beginner course for the set up of it. But in that regard, it's fair to dislike it more than others because of that. It just seems that it's an instant knock against double dash tracks where that's there purpose.
@@Kirblae If you didn’t play them on the original game, you didn’t get the actual experience. Double Dash remade tracks are for some reason inflated in size and feel not only less hectic, but easier and slower paced in remakes.
thing is, that only works on the SNES, in any other version where the Feather Item isn't avaible it's LITERALLY a useless path Even then in SNES the jump is stupidly hard to jump
If you go to a local fast food restaurant and took lil bit of all drinks from the soda dispenser you get a diabetic carbonated slop, that is 3DS bowser castle in execution
Honestly, I think Royal Raceway should count as a Peach course. Its Japanese name is _literally_ "Peach Circuit", for crying out loud! Likewise, I'm not sure if Piranha Plant Pipeline should or shouldn't count as a Piranha Plant course, since its Japanese name is "(Warp) Pipe Canyon", making it as much of a Piranha Plant course as Mushroom Bridge, Mushroom City, Shroom Ridge and Mushroom Gorge being Toad courses. If it does count, then should other courses count which have character names in different languages? Would Ice Ice Outpost count as a Toad course because its Dutch name is "Toads Poolbasis" (Toad's Polar Base)? It's also kinda odd that the Tour versions of certain courses, most notably the GBA courses Cheep Cheep Island and Yoshi Desert, and maybe Luigi Circuit too, aren't being mentioned at all. Considering that literally every single course in the Booster Course Pass is revamped from their Tour incarnation, I feel like had these two in particular been added to MK8, they honestly wouldn't have changed a lot from how they appear in Tour... and while Tour does a good job in modernizing these GBA courses with added elevation and assets, it also kind of has the tendency to simplify their course maps with less narrow or less tight curves (Sky Garden being the most obvious example).
I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t even consider the different names in different versions. Ive never played the Japanese version and I’m sure a lot of people haven’t either. I guess I’m only considering the English versions of each course. Also I’ve never played tour, and I see that more as a spin-off game kinda like the arcade games, so I didn’t really count any of the remakes unless they made it to the booster course pass
@@Kirblae There are some internal filenames that attribute certain courses to characters as well. Mushroom Bridge and Mushroom City are actually dedicated to Koopa Troopa and Paratroopa instead of Toad. You can check out The Cutting Room Floor for that.
@Kirblae From what I’ve seen online regarding speculation of the next MarioKart game, Nintendo considers Tour to be the official 9th entry in the series, and that thusly the next game will be the 10th. Maybe in a shorter, future video you could cover the tour and arcade tracks.
@@CathodeRayKobold Every track in any given Mario Kart is technically dedicated to a character in some way or another, usually this is shown by who's ghost is up first in time trials. I think it's fair to limit the amount of tracks up for discussion by explicitly named tracks so that what course is dedicated to who isnt too convoluted lol
Only real issue I have with this is when you call a track not fun to play. Like Shy Guy Falls. You called the end clunky and the shortcut not even fun. That’s a skill issue. If you learn how to do it, it becomes crazy fun. Same for a few other courses you mentioned.
I agree. Based on the gameplay footage, this youtuber doesn't seem to be extremely skilled at mk8 deluxe. Learning the track definitely makes it more enjoyable
Another example is waluigi stadium. I love the Wii version, but I hated the MK8DX version when it came out. After watching the shroomless WR and practicing the track and learning the tech, it’s become one of my favorite tracks.
@@TKCEDMthose are luck based tracks and their layouts are too simple. The only skill there is consistently performing the shortcuts/bagging well, which goes the same for every track. Those two tracks leads more on their gimmick to be fun.
@@TKCEDM Exitebike arena has tech in it that lets you go faster and get ahead of the pack for front running. Baby park involves strategy as far as item usage. Running the track isn’t going to get you a win against skilled players. Bagging until the last 3 laps and then using your dodge items will net you a lot of wins. And of course taking good lines and being aware of threats around you is very important. 1 bad race isn’t the end all, but on literally every track in the game, there’s stuff to learn, whether that be lines or strategy. You can’t win every race, but you CAN make your average placement go up. Literally all you have to do is look up shroomless wr and figure out how to replicate it. Once you know all the tracks, all the tracks are fun.
7:10 "I know people like how it's essentially the eight in the logo of the game" That's not what makes the track cool What makes it cool is that it's a mobius strip, making it everyone's favorite use of the anti-grav in eight
I honestly feel like Luigi Circuit and Daisy Cruiser's best version is in the original Double Dash. I get that you haven't played Double Dash yet but I feel like they're the most fun in that version as it feels perfect for Double Dash's gameplay and controls and I feel like you're kind of missing out on why most people find those tracks fun. Of course, I do respect on your takes on those tracks but just throwing it out that you might think differently of those tracks once you've played their original version, or not but that's okay, I get that as well Btw, GCN Luigi Circuit is a retro track in Mario Kart DS along with SNES Mario Circuit 1 which you both thought never returned in another Mario Kart
@derpysquid6595 Royal Raceway is called Peach Circuit in Japan. All 8 of the characters in MK64 have a home track Mario Kart Stadium is a 'Mario kart' series track more than a Mario track. Mario's MK8 course is just Mario Circuit.
@@HDRookie okay? He probably didn't know that, plus because this guy is American he possibly might have chose not to consider it because he was going off English releases instead
Piranha Plant Cove is one of my FAVORITE tracks in the whole game 😭😭 but that might be because of the little anglerfish enemies in the background, anglerfish are my favorite animals so seeing them in the track made me so excited. But I also just love water tracks, especially if they take place under the water, so I may be a little biased lol
Should have included Royal Raceway as a Peach track. Even though her name is not in the title, it's obvious that's her track in Mario Kart 64. All the other characters have a track named after them and I assume Royal Raceway is Peaches, even has the castle. :)
I'm sick and tired of people saying that a track with little to no shortcuts makes track worse. It's the same argument as people saying hallways are bad in Sonic games. If ykyk. First of, the linearity is there for a reason. It fits with the tracks theme. Daisy Cruiser is a cruise ship. It doesn't make sense to have shortcuts in such an enclosed space. Same for Waluigi Pinball, pinball machines are not open in any way shape or form. It's literally a box. Secondly, shortcuts are not what make tracks fun to drive, it's the layout. Obviously shortcuts help the track, but it's not necessary to be good. Usually a track with less shortcuts are harder to drive optimally, but beginners can take it wide. This conpensates for the absence of shortcuts, as you can still save time and get ahead by driving well, it's just not as immediately gratifying as a shortcut. In fact you even said that you like shortcuts that take time to master, and aren't immediately obvious. Guess what? Driving optimally on linear tracks are the exact equivalent! TL;DR: Skill issue, and that's what it's meant to be. Great video btw. Love the organisation here. 👍🏾
I mean having no shortcuts isn’t always a bad thing. But just driving the course efficiently isn’t that fun compared getting the right item at the right time to make a good shortcut. It’s satisfying to drive efficiently, but not fun.
@@KirblaePerefct driving getting all the mts in the correct spots, taking really tight lines and doing all the advanced tech is incredibly fun, reason why I like tracks like 8's Mario Circuit, Daisy Cruiser and Toad's Factory too with the ending shroomless shortcut above the lake and lots of others like the kusaan airhop at the end of BC2 in the BCP to just fly into the wall and save time the last lap. Also reason why some tracks like dk summit and mushroom gorge are fan favourites since they are technical tracks.
Wii Peach Gardens is actually my least favorite of them. 8DX Peach Gardens goes backward through a previously planned yet unused section of the track, which is so cool. Also, they Daisy slander is irredeemable
At the middle of the video, I started thinking if u forgot DK by any chance and then when I realized he was at Top 3 and even the 1st place, I got really happy. He's my favourite character and the tracks are also iconic
I feel like saying a problem with Daisy Cruiser is that there are too many shortcuts is really unfair. Yoh said you would choose the best version, and you chose the switch version even with this complaint being null when compared to the DD version since the Switch (and MK7) version added more shortcuts. The small corridors is a fair critique though.
@@Kirblae Oh ok that's fair then. Tbh I wouldn't really consider the added paths to be shortcuts but I had assumed that's what you were talking about, my bad
I'm going to be honest I wasn't expecting someone to actually not dis Toad's Turnpike after hearing all the other stuff from the lower list courses, but I too am a fan of highway/city courses that feature traffic as obstacles so kudos!
Piranha Plant Pipeline, Piranha Plant Cove, Ninja Hideaway, and Squeaky Clean Sprint are one of my all time favorite Tour original tracks. Just absolute fun. And the music is fun to listen to
Shy Guy and Daisy deserve better! Both of them have more recognizable courses. When you think of MK7 Shy Guy Bazaar is the course. When you think of MKDD, you think of Daisy Cruiser. I dare anyone to say I’m wrong…
Respect your opinions but most of them are very weak. Not remembering Bowser's Castle from the Wii? Dude you should have at least checked it while preparing the video
0:18 I mean if you are saying that mushroom gorgeous the world one theme from New Super Mario Bros Wii, that game came out a year after Mario Kart Wii. However if you mean the world one theme in general throughout the Mario series I guess that would be potentially accurate. I'm not sure how accurate though because a lot of world one's don't have a bunch of mushroom towers or mushroom trees
Wait you should try to time trial piranha plant cove even tho you don't like it. It's one of those tracks that becomes pretty amazing with it being one of the most technical tracks in all of 8 deluxe with its many challenging shortcuts
Another hot take, piranha plant cove is fantastic, from the music, to the scenery, the underwater ruins vibe, the tunnel with all the sea creatures, driving through the piranhas above land, with the torches, to the shortcuts with the tricks to floating across corners, the thwomps to avoid, and the eels swimming around. You can trick off the pillars too, and it’s just some of the best variety you can have. It’s my 3rd favourite dlc track behind wii rainbow road, and yoshis island, and my 5th favorite overall, behind dolphin shoals, and music park.
Now don't get me wrong... I think this is a pretty good video overall and I find myself returning to watch it pretty often, but a little more research should've been done when making the video. The remakes present in Tour should've absolutely been taken into consideration, regardless of whether or not you've played or like the game. And Piranha Plant Cove was not one of Tour's first original tracks, not sure where you got that from.
It’s just personal preference on what I consider the best version of the track. So because I haven’t played it and don’t like the controls of tour, there’s just no way I’d consider any of those tracks
3ds bowser's castle has variety, but it's not cohesive at all. It's just random bowser-themed junk thrown together with no thought to how they flow together. I find a lot of 3ds courses have that due to how rushed the development was. I also don't like how so many of 3ds's shortcuts are just "drive off the side onto a ramp" but I will admit this track's take on that trend is significantly more dynamic than the others. If it were the only track with that mechanic it would be so much cooler.
That said, I like how you give really solid reasoning for your opinions. I can really see where you're coming from even if I don't agree with every entry.
I really enjoy the video idea, only 11 minutes in and im very surprised by your hot takes of thinking Daisy Cruiser and GCN Luigi Circuit are bad. Although i do have a question, if you counted Royal Raceway in Peach's count how would she have performed? (Its weird how its not Peach Raceway, i get the alliteration, but like... its Peach's track, name it after her) Edit: just finished Bowser, i hope you didnt forget Neo Bowser City, not that i like it, but its the one Bowser course that isnt a Castle
Idk what the rank would be, probably a lot higher cause I love royal raceway. But I was really only counting the English versions cause that’s the only versions I’ve ever played
@Kirblae ya I saw that in another comment, didn't even think about named courses in other languages, I just meant it more so because it's a Peach course in all but name
i feel like it would've helped if there was a visual indicator of all of the tracks and their ranking as you talked about them instead of just showing them at the end. also disliking Daisy Cruiser and thinking Wii Luigi Circuit is better than GCN Luigi Circuit is CRAAAAAZY. fun vid tho
30:50 Fun fact. the 3DS version you can actually go over that wall and grab some coins if you have a mushroom, also tis a bit more obvious in there that the underwater section is actually a pipe.
Thanks. I checked out your reaction and I really appreciate the in-depth feedback and your entertaining commentary. I made some errors for sure, I was kinda lazy with a lot of things cause it was already taking so long to make.
@Kirblae I get the feeling, when a project lingers too hard you just kinda wanna push it out the door, ive been there my fair share of times! I might've been a little nitpicky in places but really good stuff overall, man, very well paced, well edited, and takes you weren't afraid to say with your chest! I'll be keeping an eye out for your next one!
Only thing I really disagree on is piranha plant cove being so far down on the list, once you learn the shroomless shortcuts for that it becomes soooo much more fun.
If you were going by Royal Raceway's name for it not being a Peach track, its name in Japanese is Peach Circuit. So I think you should have taken Japanese names into consideration.
Why am i being recommended so mamy good videos from so many super small channels, where have all these channels been, hope the algorithm keeps recommending them so more people can find them and sub
This is an interesting video. I like the concept. I had a similar idea of ranking tracks by value but I feel like it's good for the base ranking to organize your opinions, but there's other factors that aren't included in the criteria that are still relevant. For example you said you think wario should get 2nd place. If you truly feel that way, he should be 2nd. It's your list based on your own subjective opinions. A tier list can't always accurately rank your enjoyment of a track compared to the other tracks. Some tracks are so amazing they should be in S+++++++++ tier but that's unrealistic for the tier format unless you manually add separate tiers. Ranking them by score does make the video more interesting I guess since there's a value to each character, I just feel like the tier list to determine a score is very limiting. I enjoyed the video. I would recommend watching shortcats guide for mario kart 8 deluxe if you're interested in getting better at the game. You might be able to have more fun on some tracks. It would be cool to do an updated list like this when the next mario kart comes out or if your opinions end up changing a lot. Also I hope you like double dash when you play it. I think it's the most unique an beautiful mario kart game
There’s definitely huge issues with the ranking system, but I love ranking things and having actual data and categories to things. The result is only a little off my own opinion and honestly I’m ok with that. When the next Mario kart comes out in 10 years I’ll be sure to make a bunch of different videos on it.
Mario Kart Double Dash video when? I've been a Mario Kart fan for a long time now, and I still enjoy MK8D to this day, but Double Dash will always be my favorite, I highly recommend it. I also sincerely hope they make a remake of it eventually, it's that fun. I also hope you enjoy the game as much as we did, if you eventually get around to it. ^^
I got around to playing and don’t have any video ideas for the game. But I played it with a friends and had a great time getting over the initial learning curve
you forgot about the hidden mario character named “circuit”, this character only appeared in a secret level in mario pinball land but somehow got many many courses in the mariokart series through collaborating with other characters.
I was so scared that you were just gonna write off Luigi Circuit as a bland race track with some rain and a luigi blimp to save it from mediocrity but I'm very happy that you talked about just how good it is in Super Circuit with the game's drifting controls and getting the satisfaction of pulling off constant mini-turbos🙏it's my favorite Super Circuit track because of it
MK7’s Mario Circuit is one of the better circuits in the series. The aesthetic is nice with those pink peachy trees?😅😅. There’s gliding shortcut you can take with a pipe that release air. You can go inside peach’s castle. It’s actually a really fun course
Wario Stadium for N64 has a LOT of difficult tricking. You can jump the walls when you time your jumps right, to the point where a lap on Wario Stadium is about 10 seconds long. Lots of shortcuts when you learn how to bunny hop the walls.
Fantastic number 1! I was rooting for him the whole video! I was afraid that 2nd place would be number 1 because they only had 2 tracks, thus possibly making their average higher
Playing daisy cruiser on 200 cc is guaranteed to make any non try hard mk player confused and angry. It is very fun to run in 150cc tho it is pretty technical. Most mk8d tracks are interesting when you have a decent Mt stat
