Summary of Archer's story: "Actually Satan tries to kill his cringe past"

It's also worth noting that the Throne of Heroes exists outside of time, so not only is Archer the end result of a life of bitterness, he's been basically doing nothing but killing for an unmeasurable amount of time basically one never ending war crime simulator as Alaya (as I believe it's Alaya aka the collective will of humanity to survive that Archer is bound to not the world which is a completely seperate thing don't ask fate is weird) shuttles him from hotspot to hotspot throughout time and space to murder people endlessly. A deployed counter guardian is basically a 'shits fucked, everything dies' button, so USUALLY Archer winds up with a lot of innocent blood on his hands. Incidentally, this isn't even Archer at his most miserable/lowest, that comes about in Fate/Extra which is a seperate timeline/universe. Anyway, point of this long post, Archer's reason (SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS) for wanting to kill Shirou is that he hopes if he murders himself before he takes Alaya's deal, the time paradox will prevent it from ever occurring and will save him from this fate. This is almost certainly doomed to fail and he probably knows this, but he's just that desperate. Killing Shirou is in essence his attempt/only chance to commit suicide. (SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS)

"Apparently the words Archer would use are 'Kill it with fire.'" Good god, that line was funny. And sadly accurate.

Archer is from an undisclosed route very similar to Fate Route, but in which he falls in love with none of the girls and somehow still wins.

Two small correction. One, Archer is NOT Shirou from the Fate-timeline. Archer is not future Shirou from any of the VN's timelines, and the way that things go down in each of the timelines, partially due to Archer's influence, make it so that Shirou becoming Archer in the future of any of the three timelines are minismal, if not 0%. And it is true, the Realta Nua release of the VN added an unlockable scene where we see Shirou and Saber reuniting in Avalon in a distant future after the Fate-route. Second, the Servant Alignments in Fate don't work quite the same way as they do in DnD. In Fate, the alignment tells what the Servant in question believes their alignment is. It can be accurate or not and is the reason why, for example, F/SN Gilgamesh has CG alignment, cause he sees himself as such.

In terms of Archer's memories, I'm almost sure it depends on the route: - In the Saber route he genuinely has no memories and therefore doesn't try to kill Shirou - In the Rin Route he has the memories of the last route and then tries to kill Shirou - In the Saruka route he has memories of the last two routes and that's why not only does he not try to kill Shirou but he even helps him.

Just so you know the Ambridges series is so good it has been referenced several times in the english version of FGO

So the thing about Archer is that the Fate route is the closest to his timeline, the only difference is that in the Archer Fate route Shirou and Saber do fall in love but Shirou is unable to help her restore her humanity, thus Saber and Shirou don't get closure. In the Fate route proper Shirou is able to help Saber regain her humanity and allow her to find closure, and allowing the two to realize that while noble to strive to save everyone, it's okay if you don't achieve something that big as we are all human in the end. They reunite in Avalon because both find peace.

Another 4 words Counter Guardian Emiya would tell his younger self: "Ideals Suck, Go Die."

Why you need to know Fate to watch this series. Archer: You think this is high concept? Let's talk about the moon. Saber: You be quiet about the moon. Me: No, no, let's talk about the moon. Now, would you like to talk about the timeline where it's an Eldritch God who created vampires or the one where it's a supercomputer capable of true magic running a Holy Grail War?

Archer does have his memories intact to a certain degree, Archer does not tell lies only half truths. He doesn’t say he doesn’t know who he is, he states that his memories are a jumbled mess, and he does hardly remember his past the only memory he has of his life is the Fuyuki fire and the Counter Guardian stuff would also be a chaotic mess for reasons I won’t go into.

An analysis of Gilgamesh would be very interesting since depending on the version I can see him in: - Lawful Neutral - Chaotic Evil - Lawful Evil

Little correction about Archer's Past: He comes from a route similar to the fate route, everything still happened, but something was missing. The Fate Ending actually has Shirou arrive in Avalon at the end of his journey. EMIYA never reached Avalon, because he never did start searching or he stopped searching. The conditions Merlin placed for Shirou Emiya to reunite with Saber with Avalon was, Saber must wait for Shirou forever and Shirou would search for Saber forever, neither knowing whether or not the other had stopped. At the end of the Fate Route, Shirou would enter Avalon and be reunited with Saber, after long years of forever searching. So EMIYA isn't Fate Shirou, but an alternative timeline of Fate Shirou.

First off, super happy this video even exists as a huge fan of this channel, Fate, and UBW:A it's an absolute treat. Super small note about your take at 8:04 though. Archer's reason for saving Shriou here isn't solely for the purpose of not having to deal with Saber. Memory's a bit hazy, but IIRC, before Shirou and Archer's fight in UBW, Archer explains that if he's actually to erase his own existence just killing Shirou wouldn't be enough, he has to erase the ideal that led to his creation. In other words, he has to crush Shirou's resolve to be a hero before/while killing him. That's why it's actually in Archer's own best interest to keep Shirou alive until he has the chance to confront him himself, and also why he saves him from Caster, berates him, AND THEN attacks him. There are so many lore notes in these comments...Fate fans we...sure are something.

Oh, should mention: Usually in Fate, as far as I'm aware, Alignment is how Servants view themselves.

UBW:A from Mouthwash is amazing and I keep up with it because it's amazing. Also it has one of the most Gilgamesh of Gilgamesh. Because if you've seen it, there is no words I can think of to properly describe Gilgamesh besides... Gilgamesh.

Archer is from the implied Prime route were Shirou still won but without Saber falling in love with him. Rin got friend zoned so he went out on his own, then he made a deal with "The World" for more power, and after some major war got was scapegoated. Wait a minute why arguing about Fate? darn you Stu!

It should be noted that, from actual Nasuverse canon, we really don't understand Archer's timeline really at all. We have a few details here and there, but ultimately it isn't enough to point to whether or not Archer's timeline was the Fate Route or not. Tsiah IV actually did a video discussing it in a video about what servant Rin summoned in Archer's original timeline. It's like 95% speculation.

Fate allignments really funnily play around with what the various Allignments can mean Case in point Gilgamesh, Ishtar and Ereshkigal

I was surprised how short this was, especially so after the preamble, when I realized it was just season 1. 9/10 abridged series (and only because 10/10 is "Literally SAO A or DBZ A"), 10/10 video, 11/10 explanation of how screwed up the fate timelines are. Can't wait for the reprise in a few years for season 2.

The fate timeline when not described in the most convoluted way possible simply goes. Fate/Stay night is the third furthest into the timeline you’ll find in all of fate, it takes place in 2014 and sets the groundwork for how the universe works. It has 3 routes with copious amounts of bad endings but if you go to the true ending of each route there’s only 3. The Fate route where the main love interest is Saber, UBW where the main love interest is Rin and Heavens feel where the main love interest is Sakura. Fate/Zero is a potential way the fourth Holy Grail war could’ve gone but isn’t the one from the original VN due to inconsistencies. Lord El-Melloi’s case files follows Fate/Zero’s timeline to my understanding. And every other timeline is its own thing, you don’t technically need to have watched or read anything prior to this but they often make the assumption you understand the power system of this world.

Archer (Servant EMIYA) is explicitly stated to NOT be Shirou from any of the three routes. The author (WoG) has clarified that Archer is from a route similar to Fate but in that one Saber doesn't fall in love with Shirou and as such does not give up her quest for the Grail. This is not hard to visualize, as Saber not falling for Shirou would remove the critical Church Basement scene from the Fate route. Each of the three routes has at least one major scene where Shirou has to face the full implications of his ideals and choose how he wishes to go forward his life and confirm his new conviction. In Fate route that is the Church Basement scene. Shirou is emotionally broken and has seen that pursuing a beautiful ideal doesn't mean that you will achieve it. He is offered a chance to undo the past and Shirou rejects it. He points out that the world (and himself) of today are a result of that past and he will not demean everyone's suffering and sacrifice by simply making it never happen. He basically reaffirms that every loss has meaning and even if he is wrong it is his belief that he shouldn't undo it. This reminds Saber that to wish she never became the king is to spit on everyone who sacrificed themselves for her and her beliefs. And she realizes that even if she did not completely succeed in achieving her impossible ideal and died on the hill of corpses, she did in fact always act to protect her country though in the end her country didn't protect her and she is fine with that. Thus, she makes peace with her past and ends her contract with the World. This in turn inspires Fate route Shirou to double down on pursuing his heroic ideal with the added incentive of one day reaching the same place as Artoria's soul. Which he eventually does in the extra content of Realta Nua. This means he likely never took the route of making a contract with the World to become a Counter Guardian and instead became a bonafide Heroic Spirit unlike Archer (EMIYA). So Fate route Shirou ( is most definitely not Archer.

Ay if you do more abriged series in the future mention project mouthwash’s bleach abriged. It’s tfs levels of amazing. Like byakuya becomes emo, and kenpachi becomes more kenpachi, white ichigo and old man zangetzu get funny interactions, and ichigo is non union.

I feel like many people don't get why project mouthwash used the Deen version of fate as archer background. The Deen version of the anime very specifically isn't actually the fate route, but is a blend of all 3 routes thus making it none of the canon routes. This naturally pairs well with Archer who is from none of the 3 routes and works as additional material they can pull from to deepen abridged archers character and acts as a vehicle with which to make far more references. While it is not canon that archer is from the Deen route it certainly isn't canon that he can't be, given it is a modified route to begin with.

In short: GOD DAMMIT ARCHER!

Aw man I'm disappointed, I didn't know it was gonna be the abridged version. I was looking forward to see a serious look into these complex characters and see how they align 😐. I'll still enjoy this but I hope he comes back to these characters later

Not even 5 minutes in and you confuse the actual cannon with UBWA cannon. Fate Shirou does not become as jaded as heroic spirit Emiya but strives on to meet his ideals head first and doesn't regret anything

Hol up, Archer timeline isn't the Fate timeline, it's just that from the three timeline that in stay night it resembled the Fate timeline the closest, kinda like how Fate/Zero is not the direct prequel to Fate/Stay Night more like a alternate past that closely resembles the other timeline

Archer is not from the Fate route. He is from a never before seen route that is SIMILAR to the Fate route where, unlike Shirou, he fails to save Saber's heart. The closest you can call his route is Fate route Bad Ending.

Abridged Archer isn't even that different from canon, just a bit snarkier. On the whole, this is kinda true of UBW:A--it doesn't need to be SAO abridged and completely change the plot, it just switches a few things around, exaggerates some things, re-edits of course, and has the classic abridged-style dialogue that makes fun of the OG series and (imo) is easier to understand.

wouldn't the whole salter thing just be mind control and therefore not count against her because she has no control over her actions or would she get her own separate alignment because a lot of fate media shows alters as separate people from there non alter selves

Of the classes/subclasses I wonder which one would be best for making him in DND5e or P2E? For 5e I would say the top 3 choices are Arcane Archer Fighter, Horizon Walker Ranger, or Kensei Monk. Maybe even a multiclass of two of them. Just started Pathfinder recently so not as sure other than Magus.

Fate alignment is not DnD based. Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic reflect how predictable a person is. Good, Evil, and Neutral in the moral sense tends to reflect either how they perceive their actions or how other percieve them. Its why Gilgamesh is Chaotic Good despite not at all fitting the DnD alignment and why certain "evil" Servants turn out to be rather kind hearted.

If you wanna roleplay as archer and don't suck gameplay wise, you gotta play dragon's dogma. Thats the only game where magic archers exist as class

I went into Fate Abridged completely blind knowing almost NOTHING about the original fate series, and it still is one of my favourite series. The small references I don't get just make me more curious or serve as rewatch bonuses as I learn more. In fact, NOT having seen the original in some ways made things more interesting. Like "Okay, I know there is SOME history between Archer and Shirou. I want to know more."
