@@vega21 Yes, but my real name is Sue. He said, "Son, this world is rough And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough And I knew I wouldn't be there to help you along So I give you that name, and I said goodbye And I knew you'd have to get tough or die"
Damn. His dad is a LEGEND for this. A great father that truly believes in his son. As a parent myself, this really hits home and reminds me to always be positive no matter what they do.
@Jessie every player would say this if they actually have a chance to go #1. Wtf you think they’re gonna say? “I’d like to go 2nd because I don’t have enough confidence in myself to be a #1 pick”?
Ironically, not going first is what he needed to reach his potential. By NOT drafting him, the Habs may have inadvertently created the first overall monster they were hoping for.
Cale Makar was drafted fourth too. Wayne Gretzky wasn’t even drafted. Look how they did. His dad is 100% correct. It is where you go and what you do with the opportunity. I hope he puts up great numbers and helps Seattle win.
You're making it sound like he wasn't drafted because people didn't believe in him, when he certainly would've been drafted 1st if he would've been in the draft. A better example would be someone like St. Louis.
As a father you have to feel for both here. He knows his sone is agonizing and puts a perspective on things. Congrats and I wouldn’t worry where you get drafted.
@@auri5459 true he may play later this year though. It is Seattle after all, and they need all the quick help they can get. Even if they throw him on the third or fourth line to start, he’ll probably have some games under him by the end of this season.
@@astrobot3038 In a way, yes. Jersey was always trying to get a top defenseman, they don't need another high end forward. Yotes was all set for Cooley so they don't want to change their mind (which also Wright expressed little interest to play for Arizona compare to Cooley's enthusiasm).
@@taskdon769 That's BS about the devils always targetting a D man. It's what some people are claiming after the fact, but the devils flew only two guys to NJ after the combines. Slafkovsky and Wright. They said they would pick best talent available and wouldn't hesitate if that happened to be a center. They gave Wright all the chances, but he managed to turn them off.
legit the only thing i was thinking when it was live is he should thank the gods he wasnt drafted by Arizona lol... expecting a Montreal type of market and ending up playing in a 5000 seat university arena ... now that would've been a bummer. He's fine in Seattle really, and it wont impact his career negatively at all what pick he was drafted in.
I think the intriguing thing is Wright's feelings towards Arizona. Slafkofsky and Nemec play different positions to Wright, but in taking Cooley at #3 Arizona stated that Wright wasn't even the best centre in the draft, let alone the best player.. I'm looking forward to a rivalry developing between Wright and Cooley more than Wright and Slafkofsky
Wright has the chance to be the first star player in the franchise, as well as now not really having much of a spotlight on him. This could be really good for him
i argue him being the consensus #1, then dropping to #4 has made him have *more* spotlight and not less. the ceiling to meet a franchise #1 overall player is no longer there though.
@@johnrounds3172 I meant less spotlight by terms of location. Being a first overall in Montreal can be great, but fans/media will turn very ugly very quickly if you don't perform. Price used to get booed and taunted BY HIS OWN CROWD back in the day
Awe, great advice. As a Canadiens fan, I’m happy with Slav but I felt so bad for Shane. I’m sure he will thrive in Seattle away from the spotlight. I think Slav is better to deal with the MTL pressure more.
Who knows, but I still think habs messed this one up. Going to cheer for Slafkovsky and habs but my oh my I got bad bad feeling about this one, hope I am wrong though.
Slav and Galcheyuck are going to prove our HABS don't see right at the draft. Kid will be a suit case like Gally. HABS have had only one good 1st round since Guy and it was Price. All others have been busts. Just ask Terry Ryan.
@@andytonner u guys drafted a stud D-man then traded him away - that was so sad, although i like drouin but damn you're right i;m looking at who the canadians have drafted and what the f**** whole backend needs to be fired holy
Cale Makar was drafted 4th overall. He’s won the Calder, Norris, and Stanley Cup in his first 5 years of being in the league. Just like dad said, it’s not where you go it’s what you do
@@anonymousperson3023 Why? Beside ego whats the advantage of being picked 1st overall or in the 7th round ? Thats not what matters, what matters is that all of these guys got their foot in the NHL and they all have an equal opportunity to shine. Theres a LOT of 1st round picks that didnt amount to anything and LOTS of later rounds picks who became really good players or regulars on the league.
@@aaaron2334 pulled that one out of your back pocket didn't you lmao. I've got nothing bad to say about Seattle. You are just south of a city thats of significance is all
Just a thought: if my son was mature enough to be picked in the top of the NHL, I wouldn't need to tell him advice on his attitude: he would already know.
Exactly! Seems like this kid as skilled as he is, emotionally he might not be ready for the spotlight just yet. Maybe that’s why he got passed up a few times.
What he said is awesome and ironically it serves as the best rebuttal to all of the fans who try make excuses for their favorite players based on the team they play for.
I truly hope this kid becomes the face and identity of the Krakken and starts their franchise properly. Been looking for an excuse to grab a Krakken Jersey, this just might be that excuse. Although, as a Leafs fan, a Giordano Jersey would have been pretty sweet as well.
@@taskdon769 You're absolutely wright. But Shane Wright gives me the Colorado's Matt Duchene ''I want the 1st line C position because I deserve it'' vibe. I might be wrong, time will tell.
@@MrGabou77 He already is. The Kraken dropped Beniers right into the lineup right after he got done in Michigan and he had an immediate impact. He looked like he had been playing with them the whole season... Wright will be doing very well to even make the team in his first year.
The fuming mad, bruised ego is definitely a red flag for me, especially for a team like Montreal that is trying to base its whole identity on attitude and character strength going forward.
Montreal has had a too much twats in past. Montreals old captain, Max Pussachriety, was real pussy lol. Pk Subban was a downright douche bag as well, a classic tool. Carey Price was tolerable, great goalie in his prime, but still a pussy to be honest. Not sure if the Dach attitude issue rumors from CHI are valid or not, but he very well could be a beefy twat as well, who knows
Always gotta remember these guys are kids still. People bashed this kid pretty quick for any face he would've had when dropping. All in all it doesn't matter but this kid spent 2 years hearing he's the #1 pick hands down and then watched that dwindle away. I hope he's a star just based on that alone
Nothing wrong with dad’s advice, just not sure it’s registering, watched the whole documentary and the kid was so pissed, even after being drafted by Seattle and being congratulated by his new team he wasn’t even listening to them, he’s keeps cutting them off guys like Ron Francis, this kids attitude is worrisome. He really did believe he “deserved” to go number 1, time will tell.
It is a bit reminiscent of the 84? NFL draft where Dan Marino ended up being drafted 28 after seeing many suspicious Qb’s taken before him. On that day, he was determined to prove 27 teams wrong.
Back in 1990 Mike Ricci was also ranked number one by central scouting and, like Shane Wright, Ricci was picked 4th after Owen Nolan, Petr Nedved, and Keith Primeau. Interestingly Ricci was the only one to win a Stanley Cup out of the 4 so his dad is right, it's what you do with it that counts. Just ask the #5 pick of that year Jaromir Jagr.
@@habshockey10632017 was just an example, otherwise I agree that most often the first selected is the best, Ovechkin and Crossby for their generation, MacKinnon, McDavid and Matthew's for their decade and so on.
This is why Hockey is Effn awesome & is still a man's game & the real men who play it know it's necessary to have a large dose of humility in your character to truly become an iconic, generational player. Who cares who went where in reality. It's what we do in the sweaters that matters, not the 1 day a year ballroom suit exercise. And down the road there will be so many young players who watch this & draw motivation, strength,& courage from it and will most definitely mention this clip when they start reflecting upon their career as it draws to a close or in retirement as something that stuck in their head. Canadians, Americans, Europeans will all site this advice and sentiment as hockey gospel. All in all - just badass & very cool.🐕🦺🏒
How tf is he acting like a diva? & Wtf is acting like a diva? Ya just say any mf thing to hate on somebody. he ain't even in the league yet & you already bashing him
Uh, no. He was just a bit shocked because he was first projected throughout the entire year, and for him to drop 3 spots, was just kinda shocking to him
Cringe ppl wanna defend him but he was. When he cockily said "Arizona is good, I'm happy" for 3rd and still got passed on, then said "that hurts"... Plus, It's crystal clear organizations were seeing stuff they didn't want. He didn't just get passed by a D and a winger... He got pass by a center that was supposed to be ranked below him as a center. And watching his welcome to NHL clips, I see why. Organizations want guys like Moritz and Juraj, EVEN if they produce same/similar numbers. You want humble and fun people, especially as a kid. Talented player... But nobody wants to coach Mr. "I'm happy with Arizona"
Yeah, Wright looks a hell of a lot like Drouin, I would not feel very confident drafting a player who looks so much like a guy who always seems to have an excuse ready for not living up to expectations.
@@vinceslapchopper Especially when Shane does the same thing. Doesn't get drafted first? It's Montreal's fault and they need to pay! NJ passes on him? It's their fault and they need to pay! Arizona is next? Clearly "I" am going to Arizona because there is no way they would pick another center over "me." There's no way that my disappointing season had anything to do with this!
He'd better listen to those surrounding him and use that Chip on his shoulder at the right spots cause many of his team mates won't accept a higher than thou attitude on and off the ice. I am sure he will be a great centreman and all the best to him, even though my team took a different path.
For all intent and purpose, Kraken got a lottery pick at #4. They likely won't be much better this year than last and will have a good chance of winning next year's lottery, thus possibly being able to draft Wright and then Bedard in back to back years.
And how do you want to handle Wright's ego when he suddenly would become a third line center behind Bedard and Beniers? (And both of them would be drafted higher than himself). I can imagine that temper tantrum he would be throwing.
I think he’s gonna be good now BECAUSE he went 4th and got his ego knocked down. If that didn’t happen & he went 1st, he most likely STILL would’ve been cocky & entitled. So no… I don’t think any team will regret passing on him… Bc even if he becomes great, he most likely WOULDN’T HAVE had they picked him (especially 1st)
@@sb0182 i do forget how much of a cocky asshole he comes across as, but if you ask me some of the best players were like that. he has the skill and with this push i think it will up his game.
@@TheHat--Man The proof is his dad trying to calm him down after not being picked in the top 3. Shane looked like he was going to have a meltdown, thankfully dad saves the day 😂
