We have a small handful of politicians that care and are trying to fix it, but they can't get the minions to answer the questions. If they continually dodge them, they need to just send them all to the border and make them guard. And not at a known crossing, but out in the dessert. I remember during the 'sequester' era, the first round only about 1/3rd of us on base were 'permitted' to go to work because we were 'essential', but we did fine. Actually, my office got a lot more done in those couple of weeks than we normally could because so many of the bureaucrats we 'work around' rather than 'work with' were gone and others took up their slack. The second time around they were not going to let that happen, just as they left for their paid vacation an order came down from the Pentagon itself saying essential personnel were not allowed to work, we had to show up but were not allowed to even drive our GSA vehicles or engage in any official business. So we had to sit on our thumbs wasting time and dollars, while they got paid to not come in at all...under orders we 'essential personnel' could not do any actual work.
