Andy, please don't beat yourself up on your design choices, every design is an iterative process. You start off with your best informed ideas, then tweak them and improve them as time goes on. Peace and ❤

When you’re someone entering your 40s with no children, particularly with a long term partner, staving off neuroses and obsessive thought patterns becomes virtually impossible. That’s why historically people in this predicament become either married to their work or live in service to a greater good like a philosopher, statesman, nun, monk or priest. We cannot escape what we are inside.

The induction is known for interference, people with pacemakers did not use to be able to use them and they used to scramble your phone if placed on top, also interfere with wifi, modern ones may have changed but they still have the same magnetic field concept. From a practical point, the stove is often a place to rest hot trays from out of the oven and you can't do that with induction, also require pot's n pan's that will work with the stove top, your existing pans may not be usable. There is a magnetic isolator not sure how effective it would be with the sound system. Stick with the gas, when you turn the flame down the heat immediately changes, more control. Great work Andy.

Just a tip on the LED strip lighting, go for a COB strip light these are more uniform in color and no gaps in illumination (also an easy retrofit) The noise issue on the induction could be just a shielding problem, have a chat to someone about a Faraday cage under the unit or some ferrite cores on the cables? (ever seen the hidden in bench induction units?) Great ideas on the kitchen too... Just love your content

Just on that, we got our strip lighting from Unios in melbourne, very uniform and high-end - would recommend giving them a look as they can support whatever colour temp and diffusing you want

Interested in knowing what material you used for the counters and backsplashes. In certain shots, it looks like a matte stainless steel. Love whatever it is.

Great looking kitchen. We use multiple species of oak here in the US. That looks like quarter sawn *white* oak in a natural finish. Truly stunning and well deserved!

You won't have a problem with audio if you use Sennheiser AVX wireless, You would be getting interference because you are running on a 2.4 gigahertz wireless system I'm guessing which is very consumer grade it's a very messy spectrum and usually that's where a lot of wavelengths are sitting for commercial appliances as well. The avx system runs on a 1.9 gigahertz although it does introduce a little bit more latency.

Hey Andy, love the new kitchen. One important question... Where do you get your black and white t shirts??? I too love nothing more than a fresh white or black tee and I'm picky about the quality and fit. Maybe you could release an Andy Cooks range of tees lol.

Do the magnets intefere with the RF frequences or the microphone themselves? or Both? Are the backup recordings on the Rode clean, is it just the transmitted audio bad? Have you tested shotgun mics that have a higher RF protection? I'm a camera guy, but know enough about audio that it should be fixable while still using the induction cooktop. I know induction cooktops interfere with the 2.4 gx spectrum, but have you considered testing UHF based audio transmitters like the new Deity Theos or the new sennheizer evolution ew-dp or the classic AVX system which uses 1.9 ghz frequencies.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I really like the simple and clean look of your new kitchen. The concrete look grey stone and the wood countertop are just amazing! I do have a question though - is it safe to install a gas cooktop on a wood countertop? I thought we should only use incombustible materials around gas cooktop. I guess your pro team should have considered this.

Ive had my kitchen done up and done absolutely everything with soft close draws, draws are the gee ooo, no cupboards, i hate having to bend down to reach into the space pulling out crapola to reach stuff at the back compared to being above what your grabbing out of a draw 👌👌

Love the look & the open shelving. Surprised you don’t have a dishwasher. I would pick deep draws over the lower cabinets for easier access to most things, especially bigger items. I hate bending over into cupboards & my husband is a cabinet maker, so I have seen plenty to know/see what works for me. Definitely plan on two ovens for my dream kitchen & a big butler’s pantry; one day 🤞🏼

Good recipes need to be tweaked and improved to make them great, and so does design, so be positive about it mate, it’s mostly awesome. Some things for you to consider - The cooktop, do all induction CT’s have the same issue? Go to the winnings show kitchen in the valley and test a bunch of them out to confirm. I feel that the CT (or at least the wok trivet) is visually dominating/distracting. Maybe do a 600 gas CT and 450 or 600 induction? The rear shelves - you can get LED strips and diffusers that are not as spotty as the ones used there, it’s easy to swap them in. Keen to see what you think about the solid timber benchtop / joinery after it gets used for a while - I think it looks great now but it might fade/wear/patina a bit faster than a polytec/laminex and stone combo

Does using wired mics help with noise? Might have to have a separate channel/track for talent mic but syncing is pretty easy in PP
@DerekBolli
@DerekBolli 6 месяцев назад
I read that some wireless mics are not affected by the high frequency sound emitted by the induction stove top. Audio Limited A10 and dpa 4060 was one combo that I saw but they seem fairly pricey. Shielded, balanced, short as possible cables from the talent mic to the wireless transmitter was also another possible solution.

I’m curious as to if you would have liked to have the ovens higher up, but made that trade for the clean cabinet less look above the bench top, or if them being below the bench doesn’t matter to you? I know personally, I hate having to bend down to get into the oven, and you’re taller than I am.

I have a Lil question: is this place a rental for how long bail is the contract? Hopefully you will understand me. As it's been build/arranged for the purpose of filming stuff I was asking myself if it would be easy to turn it to a normal house. I love the deco choices and the combo induction/gaz. And yes the sound of induction can be annoying especially if you film. Besides it's elegant and nice. I would only add a granit work blat because i love the ability of easy cleaning and the combination of wood and rock. Well, can't wait to see more if cooking in new place. Don't forget, it takes time and practice with new environment to conquer it. Even if you're the designer. Happy new year to all the team 🎉❤

hey andy, i have an old (i guess 1970s) electric stove, I cant afford a replacement, but are the portable induction just as good? or still better than the 50 year old electric hot plate stove
@sharonadlam3195
@sharonadlam3195 6 месяцев назад
I have used a portable induction for a couple of years now while waiting to renovate the kitchen. They work a little differently to installed cooktops, they are noisier but induction is defo the way to go. It took me a few months to get the hang of cooking on it, just as it initially took me time when I changed from solid plate electric to gas some 20 odd yrs ago. Once you are used to it gas will seem so old and slow in comparison.
