You know, Pink Floyd was widely embraced by hippies for how extraordinarily well their music pairs with tripping on magic mushrooms. I guess they were boosted into another musical dimension. I haven't listened to Floyd in many years, but listening to them in your videos makes me realize they have a lot more jazz influences than I realized before. This track is a tribute to their former bandmate Syd Barrett who (I believe) had a psychotic breakdown

Shine on you Crazy Diamond bookends this album beautifully. Richard Wright's keyboard playing on this entire album is masterful, you easily lose yourself in the journey this album takes you on, it's one of their best. It's layered and mixed beautifully. If you ever listen to their album Dark Side of the Moon, you have to listen to it in one hit, start to end as each songs flows into the next and it's truly an experience to be had for a new Pink Floyd fan, I envy anyone being able to do that for the first time.

Yes. Can't stress this point enough. Especially on first time hearing, if you have not heard anything from the album before. That's how they were meant to be listened to when they were first released on vinyl in the 1970's and 1980's. From side 1 track 1, to the faint ticking of the needle looping the hiss of the final groove of side 2, unless the turntable was automatic obviously ;-). Trying to piece together the story they're telling, constantly distracted by the music.

Hi Sevsimo, I am a 68yo lady from Sydney, I promptly subscribed to your channel at your first Pink Floyd reaction! I love seeing you sniffing your candle and yes, you're right, listening to PF is like taking a trip, I love your reactions discovering new music! You must know that "Shine on you crazy diamond" is a tribute and remembrance piece to Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett. Earlier in this band's history, Barrett left the group (read - eased out of the band) because he had mental problems and drug addiction. He was extremely talented. The lyrics of Shine on... refer to him, to his inability to cope with the sudden fame, while his talent was the diamond of the group. Another fact about PF is that they choose very carefully the lyrics. Specially for this, you might check out "Time" and "Us and them". And of course, you should finally "meet" the group and check out their super famous PULSE concert, you must watch the RESTORED AND RE-EDITED version, with pieces like SORROW (for this one you'll need 3 candles !!!) , CONFORTABLY NUMB etc. David Gilmour is the lead guitar & vocals and the older ones guys are the original members. Cheers till next time 🙂

Search for Echoes Live in Gdansk (you'll find it under the name of David Gilmore, the singer and lead guitar of Pink Floyd, recorded professionally during the concert in the Gdansk Stocznia shipyard in Poland, on the Baltic Sea). It's an experience too few people know (as they mainly refer to the Pompei, Italy, session in the 70s). I promise you, you'll not regret :) By the way, it was a keyboard. The saxophone is the one in the I-V part ;)

As someone who has been listening to floyd for 50 plus years I'm happy to see another soul getting lost in the PF Zone (There is NO way out, by the way). Your instrumental recognition needs some tutoring though, - Saxophone?? - No, Rick wright on synth, In the first part you asked Is that a trumpet? No, Dick Parry on Baritone sax, then Tenor sax. Just sayin'...... The whole PF catalog is full of gems, some short, some long. Some of the longer ones seem to me to be this century's version of classical symphonies and concertoes and some concept albums like the Dark Side of the Moon, The wall, (and of course Tommy by The Who) are the modern equivalent of Operas. You have a massive treat in store but don't be greedy, don't try to sample everything at once! Treat each song as a single course of a meal and you can dine for months. Can't wait to see you react to Meddle, DSOM, all of SYCD, Animals, The Wall and then the last ones without Roger Waters. Also suggest you read up about the band and that way you'll get some of the background info relating to each successive album. It will enhance your appreciation of the Bands music. Have fun. Love and peace from England

It's not just effects on Gilmour's guitar, he has a unique and special touch. He's different but equally expressive as Jeff Beck, who you may want to check out.

💎💎💎💎💎💎 Great to see someone have the same reaction as old bastards did the first time we heard these tracks 40 - 50 years ago, I know some people partake in the green tobacco for PF. But you don't need too. It's a natural high. A euphoric wave 🌊 that carries you up and out of your self. Keep up the exploration, I'm sure you will find it gratifying.👍🤘

I can't imagine hearing this again for the first time...When it came out; I was 15, but 75 had SO MANY awesome bands at their peak, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Moody Blues, Gentle Giant, EVERYBODY was cranking out masterpieces, it was almost too much...I've heard this album a thousand times, but it wasn't until I was in my late 40's that I saw it for how monumental of a contribution to music it was...I feel sorry for older people just hearing it...dozens of early morning summer days and late night cruising in my car playing it on 8 track over and over and over...

This is the more under appreciated Pink Floyd piece ever! It's my absolute favourite! Gilmour plays a lap steel guitar with a slide, that's how he gets that other worldly noise out of it.

It's David Gilmour on guitar. I'm a little sad that you didn't recognise the Saxophone on the last part and didn't recognise the guitar on this one. It does appear that people are forgetting what real music, played with real instruments is... At least you're asking the right questions though! Also I do find it funny when younger people are almost confused by music which consists either mostly, or entirely of instrumentals. The lack of a chorus in some songs seems to confuse some people too. It's as if the last couple of generations have been programmed to believe that music has to sound a certain way and the parameters are very narrow. I've even heard some young people say that they don't like music played with real instruments! Which I find really sad. Then again, perhaps I'm just old, bitter and out of touch, lol. :)

Not old. Simply used to real music and not to computer's junk. Loved your comment 'cause I'm old and a rock lover. And Good Music whatever the genrer.

Make sure you hear the 3 Masterpiece songs in between the 2 sections of Shine On from that album, they are a must listen. Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here transition into each other seamlessly and have been bought, played on the radio, you tube, been absorbed into pop culture or streamed a billion times. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

There is lots of good Floyd, different time periods different flavors. Lots of people will say Echoes, Live at Pompeii might be next... I don't think so. I think Pompeii is better when you have really begun to appreciate the magic... It doesn't take long... and then see them in that amazing performance....... My suggestion, Dark Side of the Moon next, entire album. Then maybe Pompei...... Dark Side of the moon has similar flavor to Shine on you Crazy Diamond, but different, equally good as this album, I personally think better. I first experienced Floyd back in the 70's. Don't forget this is psychedelic rock....... I don't know how you feel about weed and the hallucinogens, back in the day I experimented heavily...... lost interest in that over time, but do have to say that kicking back and listening to Pink Floyd just BEGS for it...... together it is flat-out amazing.......

There's a story about them composing and recording this album in the studio and former guitarist and founding member Syd Barrett showing up just to say hi, see how they were doing, they didn't even recognize him at first and it deeply saddened them and certainly affected their compositions and playing for this album.

Can you imagine going through life without ever experiencing Pink Floyd? I am 60, and have experienced their masterpieces from early 1970's, and in my opinion they lose the magic after The Wall, but I still love the other works. If I had to only take one album to heaven, it would be...
