Can we just take a minute to give props to the way Rogers voice transforms into a synth sound, at the end of each verse, each time its different with a delay, echo, reverb and oscillation. Sonic masterpiece
@andyg264
@andyg264 9 месяцев назад
Unreal isn't it? First time I heard that transition my jaw dropped. Then it dropped again at the euphoric outro. Also the line 'only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air' and later in the ominous synth mid-section there is definitely an unease in the air! Absolute masters. To have one song like this in your repertoire is impressive. To have as many utter masterpieces as Floyd have is just ridiculous.

"Animals" from 1977 is by far the best studio album by PF. It was also during the tour for this album that Roger Waters came up with the idea for the iconic album "Tha Wall". Great review. Keep digging into Pink Floyd's catalog. There are an incredible amount of goodies here. Keep up the good work :)

It might be your favourite, but it's impossible to say it's their best. How well DSOTM has done, makes that indisputably their best. And I'm not saying that because it's my favourite, because it isn't. Mines is as you mentioned 'The Wall.' Came out the same year I entered this world, & was the first Pink Floyd album I'd heard. Think I was about 7-8 yrs old when I discovered them, and it was because I got a loan of my neighbours VHS of the movie after seeing a little bit of it in her house. Been my top band ever since.

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air You better watch out There may be dogs about I've looked over Jordan and I have seen Things are not what they seem What do you get for pretending the danger's not real? Meek and obedient you follow the leader Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel What a surprise A look of terminal shock in your eyes Now things are really what they seem No, this is no bad dream The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives He releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, He hath great power and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream Wave upon wave of demented avengers March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream Have you heard the news? animals was the album that started my 46 year obsession with pink floyd. i had been a casual fan (mainly from stuff i heard on the radio from the dark side of the moon) then i went to see them live in may 1977,and it changed me as a person as well as my musical tastes. i spent that summer immersed in their music,buying animals and every album in the back catalog,and never looked back.
@z-man2343
@z-man2343 10 месяцев назад
Very similar to my journey with PF. My first real immersion coincided with my very first acid trip accompanied by this album, back in '78. Needless to say my mind was (temporarily) blown and from that moment forward I became somewhat obsessed with everything in the Floyd's extensive catalog. Never saw them live unfortunately, but did see solo Gilmour twice and Waters once...all fantastic shows. Had tickets to Mason's solo tour but had to back out last minute. Still bummed about that one.

@@z-man2343 i was fortunate enough to live near one of the three cities where they performed the wall in 1980 (los angeles). i took acid that night,and it was amazing! still my top concert of all time,and i've seen hundreds since then. i saw the gilmour led pink floyd reboot twice, and waters' tours for pros and cons,radio kaos,in the flesh (closest thing to an "amused to death" tour),the wall twice,and the most recent "this is not a drill" tour. i have videos from that last one on my channel (shameless plug). i hope nick brings his saucerful of secrets band to the u.s. someday. pre-dark side of the moon music would be fantastic to see live.

It's amazing how quickly these long songs go by and how they all leave you wanting more. Even Echoes, which is an absolute masterpiece (I see you've done Pompeii), and Atom Heart Mother are over too fast. And I love the way Pink Floyd can evoke an image with their music, and to me in this song Gilmour's guitar hacking and slicing in here and there sound like blades, and then there's the relative calm and nervous praying of the chute before the slaughter and climax of the song. Brilliant!

There's a band that I've been recommending for years now, but to no avail. At a glance, they seem to be nothing like P.F., they're more aggressive, their music is dirtier, more drum and bass oriented and it's often faster. But their progressive use of instruments, and social/political lyrics are branches off the musical trunk that P.F. created. And to a lesser extent, like P.F. they had a large influence on many bands that came after them. The band is Skinny Puppy and I'd recommend Tin Omen as the first song of theirs to check out.

So glad you finally did Sheep. To me the most amazing part of this song is the slow build up like a wave and then the rogue wave catches you when Roger Waters voice melts and merges with Gilmour's guitar feedback at perfect pitch so they become one. The world this album creates is unlike any other musically I've ever heard. This is one of my favorite PF albums that demands you listen to it in its entirety. The album is a social commentary of how the upper class (dogs) feed on the lower class (sheep). It speaks to the record industry as well sorting out the record executives who know little about music or musicians. No one does it better and I doubt anyone ever will produce and market this type of album with this type of impact and longevity...

You commented about how there is a lot going on in your headphones and how the songs are like journeys. There is another 70’s band that had that same “what’s going on?” affect on me back in the day when I first heard them. And since you don’t mind experimenting with the longer tracks I’d like to suggest you try the band YES. The title track of their 1972 album Close To The Edge would be a great place to start. Sheep is a Floyd song where you have to take notice of the lyrics every human being needs to focus on the lyrics on this song! It may just save their lives😄

Yes, headphones are a must, but also Floyd, like a lot of music from this era needs to be listened to in in it's original analog form on vinyl. When the sound wave gets digitized it gets broken down into bars that try to mimic the shape of the sound wave. No matter how many bars and how thin you make them, there will always be a little tiny fraction of the wave missing. I've had all of this music in various formats and none match the sound quality of vinyl played on a really good turntable with a diamond tipped needle.

You're doing it right. Just close your eyes, put on your headphones, and drift to another world. This album is perfect to listen to as a whole, fyi

Gilmore is just plain nasty on this track. Love the lick (and all its variations) at 10:00 - I always wait for that in this song.

Not BAAAAAAAAD eh? Gotta love Roger Waters. Love this album. It's time to rise up.

This song is not Roger's creation. It was conceived originally as Raving And Drooling during the WYWH sessions. There is a misconception that this album is Roger's work.
@lawrencefine5020
@lawrencefine5020 10 месяцев назад
@@yosshy4774 It's Roger's interpretation of that original work. Nothing is really original, every idea has some kind of borrowed interpretation. No Roger, no Sheep,, No Pigs, and no Dogs to put out into the public eye. Roger gets a lot of the well-deserved kudos.

Probably a hidden gem. It got kinda overshadowed by pigs and dogs but it may be better❤
