I heard food isn’t like this for all crew, only for higher class crew. I am going to be starting my first contract with Norwegian soon and I sure hope it looks like this. Happy crew makes for a happy ship! Plz read more P.S I am now starting my 2nd contract everyone so please stop telling me it’s not like this. I know now, thank you!
Hey Morgan I got a question for you. How did you get a job for Norwegian? What kind of experience do you need to get a job on a cruise ship ?What job did they hire you for ? And if you don’t mind answering what is the pay ? I want to work on a cs so I want to know a few stuff before I do
@@pedrohernandez4887 they did an online zoom meeting for us and when going through all the slides I was interactive and made sure I stood out compared to everyone else! That’s how I got the job, I also was hired for the Servers assistant position. Make sure you are funny, be yourself but also out going. Stand out from everyone and make sure you have some experience in the position you apply for! GOOD LUCK
Good Luck hope you land a good spot. As a cruise traveler I have met many staff on board. You will probably meet a lot of cruise goers if your cruise line does scavenger hunts onboard the ship on sea days.
@@francisfernandes9435 sure it is. They have different levels and qualities of foods depending on your class level of employee. First class employees like singers and comedians that are difficult to replace get those perks. Janitors and engineers eat the leftovers in down in the hole.
Yes this is what it was like when I worked on a cruise ship here in Scandinavia. 24/7 buffet in the staff area. I sneaked in my sister on one of my 2 week shifts and she lived like a king on board using my access card while I worked 18 hours a day. Good times
@@annea5781 Yes I remember having to sleep with my legs up against the wall to give them proper rest between the shifts, it was hard work! And so much fun. Never laughed so much in a job 🥰🥰 I bet they’d have fired me on the spot had they found out but I was young and saw it all as an adventure, why not share the best of it :)
I cooked on a ship as a part of my education one semester. It was so much fun and enjoyable for crew morale that they offered me a job 3 different times. Even the Captain offered to write a personal reference. What a fond memory. 20 years ago and feels like yesterday. ;)
It’s clean etc but they are not getting expensive cuts of steak & lobsters 🦞 Buffet part is just generic salad bar plus nice deserts Looks better than normal buffet cus it’s not a mess etc
That’s not what the food looked like on the boat that I worked on, I use to bring groceries on with me because of how bad the food was on the ship or I ate out.
Crew food varies from ship to ship and cruiseline to cruiseline. Yes this is standard fare for crew. Officers generally do have an officer mess but they are also allowed to eat in the guest buffet so they mostly do that (performers and other frontfacing jobs ie staff are also allowed to eat there). yes standard fare is rice, stewn, beans, salad, pasta, etc. most of the crew is asian so there is a lot of rice!
been with celebrity which is in the same umbrella with Royal and yes this is what crew mess looks like,. some older ships still runs and the set up is still old school but the food in general is the same and all crew have the same access to everything except guests areas.
@@Jenni-Martikainen i am from India. We don't have such salad bars here. And salads r expensive here. So can't enjoy them as much as i like. Unless i am making it at home.
Even the buffet on the employee level is fabulous. They do put that spirit of presentation on everything. That is probably because you can’t have staff practicing what to do in a regular Buffay and then have a different standard for staff. It would be very confusing for kitchen stuff.
When the cost of the food is mostly procurement and logistics, spending that little bit of extra on making it really good makes a lot of sense, because happy crew members do better work.
You forgot to say staff can eat with passengers. But the crew gets to eat later anything was left from every sitting. Not left overs but partially the same was during the meal. Not bad anyway!
my uncle was working at the kitchen for a cruise before and now for a cargoship. The food they make for the crew is pretty similar for both types of ship.
i remember my aunt told a story of her working on a big boat for a few months and got sick of the food cause they've been eating only curry for the last few months cause the ships chef was indian lmao
I've been on a cruise. Most of the crew wasn't from the U.S. Not that it mattered. I wouldn't have minded crew food. The lines above deck were always long.
it's like those mining towns where you're paid in company credits and you shop at the company store and live in the company town... reminds me of that...
That's what I was thinking. Come to think of it, this is probably why we're seeing more vids like this. A lot of cruises are still under-booked, but they're buying just as much food.
I imagine it is a lot like being a casino employee. The staff meal looks fabulous, even though it's all leftover stuff that sat aht for a few hours for the guests first.
oh man... why did I click on this? I'm so hungry and don't really want to fix what we have in the house. I have "fried rice" riced cauliflower, but pad Thai sounds awesome. I've got bagel with cream cheese & lox, I could bake a potato with all the toppings... I'd LOVE a fresh fruit plate!
Reminds me of a prison when the inspectors are in town and they roll out the best food. Only in this case it’s pretty boy is making a video on cruise food with the lines blessing so they roll out the best buffet.
Little did he know... those desserts are all the ones people have sneezed on/kids with booger fingers have touched and the cruise line refuses to serve to guests
