The 2 wild crows that come to the front of my house eat raw chicken, same as the 4 seagulls that come to the back of the house, in the beginning it wasn't pretty when they met up ~ but after a while they knew to come at different times and stick to their side of the property. The crows are much smarter than the seagulls, and not nearly as greedy. I feel blessed to have them visit, as I am in the middle of London... I love them all 🙏
I've been here so long, I donated to Cherry's surgery, I was out of work, having two hip replacements, but I felt his pain..I'm sorry I wasn't able to give more, but I'm so happy they are with you
I became so very fond of the regular crows and ravens that visit my balcony feeder. Took your advice and added some cat food to the mix, but the mealworms they go bonkers over, I order the dry mealworms pound box for only $30 on-line. Maple looks so glossy beautiful black shiny feathers.
The brown thrashers in my yard (i live in the mid-South United States) really go after the dried mealworms. I buy live mealworms but have to put them in a caged feeder for the small birds, because big birds will gobble them up really fast.
Hi Dennis and Kullike. I mentioned I have 2 crows in Northern Ontario, where I am for the summer, come to my feeder for unshelled unsalted peanuts (from No Frills or Walmart), and shelled unsalted peanuts from Walmart Canadian Tire (who also has raw unshelled peanuts in bird food section). Yesterday I was in Giant Tiger and saw in bird food section, unsalted shelled peanuts 1.8 kgs for $12.99. I got 2 bags. First time I ever noticed it there. They are nice coz they are all halved with skin removed. I have a few chipmuks loving all the peanuts too. I went blueberry picking yesterday and put some in the feeders. They didn't last long. Several types of birds come as well. I don't have kibble, however I did mention before, when we were camping in Canmore, Alberta, we left the dogs dish outside with dry kibble in it and Magpies helped themselves till the dish was empty. I had never seen Magpies before so I sat inside the camper watching the Magpies coming back and forth. Today the crows came this afternoon. Must be hungry. They usually come in the mornings and make regular visits filling their beaks with peanuts and flying off somewhere to eat them. Maple is really going through the zoomies grooming herself there. Flapping around and grooming her feathers with her beak. Looks awesome there. Nice here too outside of Kirkland Lake, just south of Timmons, 5 klms from the Quebec border. My dad used to work in Kerr-Addison Gold Mines, if you have ever heard of it. Supposedly biggest gold mine in Canada. Pretty well mined out by now. Enjoy your weekend guys and the whole summer while we have it.
Shalom Dennis, I was searching on google, Ravens eat everything also small animals like mice and smaller birds, we have in hebrew only one word for them, it could be raven or crow, maybe corvid, but there are many different species, they eat fruit corn all kinds of foods. You have the small black ones so you call them crows, we have here the big ones they are gray, but head and feather are black. There are forest black ones, american black ones and many other different types. They are very intelligent.
Dennis, really appreciate your voluntary submission to the mosquitos predations. It’s a pleasure just to see your mini-mob-I really object to use of the word ‘ murder ‘ to describe multiple crows( wonder what multiple magpies are called?) , and I think mob is actually accurate, given the way some corvids behave sometimes. So seeing your corvids together in their lovely environment, knowing how well cared for they are, it’s an antidote to some of the unhappiness in our world these days.please give greetings to Kulika( sorry if mis-spelled!) best to everyone❤
I get unsalted peanuts in the shell as snacks for my crow 🐦⬛ friends. It’s fun to watch the young crows learn how to crack the shell and get the peanut! I don’t have much of an appetite when it’s hot either! Hi Peach! ❤
I told you about my son feeding the crows. Our cat likes Temptation treats, but she only eats the outside part and leaves the middle. We always put down fresh kibble, fresh canned catfood and a couple of treats on the side. He throws out leftover kibble and the middle of the treats for the birds.....they love it, but will sometimes soak it in water first.
I’ve got to try watermelon! i tried it for my squirrels and the watermelon pieces just got covered with ants. I put out a cut-up hardboiled egg every day for them and am so gratified to see a crow stride purposefully across my yard to the tray of eggs and polish off the yolks. I really love your aviary, by the way. Your crows and magpies are beautiful.
Yeah my local wild crows rly dislike peanuts 🤣🤣🤣 Walnuts on the other hand LOVING them. They go crazy and even fight over them. Their favorite food for some reason is bacon and i have no idea why they love it so much. But i only feed them when they rly need food in winter or when they have young crows. What i noticed in winter because i feed them they dont bother sparrows
Young crow, did I do the right thing? It showed up in the yard on the ground, very lethargic. We picked it up to inspect it for damaged wings. When released it flew away. Later it came back and was on garage roof. 2 days on the roof, seemingly no parents. We put food (hamburger) and water out for it, which it ate and drank by itself. Part way through day 2 it fell off the roof and I found it clinging to the ladder with feet and one wing. Worried, I took it to the porch and gave it food and water for a couple of hours. Then took it inside and gave it food and water for several more hours before taking it to wildlife rehabilitator that evening. It sat on the arm of the couch with me and ate whenever it wanted to. Hoping half a day inside didnt cause it to become dependent. Wildlife lady said he was very skinny and had probably been without food for days. Is it ok how I handled this? I'm worried about him.
I worry so much about the heat here. I have a bluebird nest box with eggs, but I’m afraid they have died because of the intense heat here. Heat index of 107 deg F and higher last week. 😢😢
