There is a new scam gaining popularity that targets people by calling them and telling them they have an arrest warrant and that they need to pay them money to clear it. So what can you be on the lookout for to make sure you don’t get scammed? What do you do if you get a call like this? How do you know if it is legitimate?

In a good George Cluney movie he tells his client "The cops don't call." If they did the bad guys would probably hide out till they went away.

Had a scammer this morning. I asked them “How is the Monday Funday going to be when I call you again and again and again”. The scammer cursed at me and hung up.

I realize people fall for this stuff constantly. Now that I'm retired and sometimes I need to entertain myself when I'm bored, I like to engage these asswipes for as long as possible. It is so much fun getting them frustrated to the point of losing it. Usually I will end up being cussed at and told the sheriff's on their way. I always respond appropriately... I never realized I'd enjoy messing with scammers on the phone, when I retired! So far, no popo have ever shown up.

many years ago I had a friend who worked in the city police office who actually did call me and tell me that a guy i knew (enemy) came into to the police station and swore out a warrant for me. my friend knowing me personally knew it was false. i was able to contact the person who swore out the warrant and tell him to get it off me which he did. in my state any civlian can walk into a police office and swear out a warrant. no need for a judge to sign it.

My "social" is being canceled because it was found in use during smuggling near the southern boarder.... and I need to comply with the investigation or I will be arrested. (followed by "now we need to confirm your name". )

If somebody calls like this ask him what your name is. If he doesn't know your name, uh, it's a scam.

Anyone with a brain knows that cops do not call and tell you that you have a warrant. And even if you talk to a known police department, it is very rare they will tell you this on the phone unless you already know or suspect it or they have been looking for you foe sometime.

If the caller has an obvious East Indian accent, it is a scam.

Because the Supreme Court has already made it very clear the police are allowed (and encouraged) to lie. That's how we know. Also, how many times are they going to "investigate themselves" and find no wrongdoing?
