Singlish will live on forever. I mean when we are in a former setting, we need to present ourselves properly so yes we need to speak proper English. But when we are in social settings, Singlish will be our main~

Mainly because I wasn’t introduced to Singlish when I was younger, so when my classmates speak Singlish, I really have to ask them every single fucking time. And I do get tired of it after a while , so I just pretend to understand them when I don’t know shit
i would say that the company and background someone grows up with influences your way of speaking for example a lot of people grew up with friends who’s parents or family speak heavy singlish plus their mother tongue but my family uses english (and a little bit of malay) with not THAT much singlish so i tend to feel like i’m going overboard if i use too much singlish terms in a conversation. as for the modern slang, someone mentioned in a comment below that we actually incorporate that in singlish in a way? people would react to the western slangs with singlish terms or give it a singaporean twist if they could tbh
There is no such thing as proper English. Westerners also speak english very differently. You have American accent, British accent, Aussie accent and within these they are even more sub-accents and some completely sounding very different from what standard English is.
