Vice News made a documentary about Airsoft, especially about Milsim. Josef & I react to the content while watching. It was great fun, so join us! Source: www.vicetv.com... • Fanatics The Deep End ...
"White Europeans dressed up as Taliban" So having the taliban team comprised of only muslims or middle easterners would be less controversial somehow? "Hey you're black/brown you should be on the Taliban team!"
The problem is they are dressed as stereotypes of Muslim people. You might say, “But people in the Taliban look like that.” Maybe that’s true, but it might be better to just not include the comical beards lol
There is something about actually holding a replica gun in your hand and experiencing it in real life versus on a tv screen. It’s more exciting and you learn more from it. It’s a way for you and your friends to get out and do something together.
I bet it's fun for airsoft players, but pointing a gun at someone is not okay for me. No matter if real or not. The fact those replicas look so real, makes it even more difficult for me to understand.
@@ZSmith-yy4lv imagine toying around with guns in public. There's a big gap between toy-looking nerfguns and airsoft guns which look like their big brothers
@@Michelsen3K what makes you think they are just running around in public? Airsoft fields are private property, That aren’t doing this in the streets of NY.
That’s entirely untrue. All you need to fire blanks is a blank adapter. They just screw onto the end of the barrel to create pressure in the barrel to cycle the bolt.
i would hope so, i dont want to be running along in airsoft gear with no ballistic protection and then i get hit with a FAL or something like that lmfao
Airsoft is something that is hard for “Non-Airsofters” to understand. Why would you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on replicas and gear? Why would you put so much effort into a game? We all have different but valid reasons to play airsoft. It really is something else.
For me it's like the guy in the beginning said. You get the real life Call of Duty experience like you see in movies, games, and TV, without having to join the military. Plus it's a great way for me and my friends to hang out. Most of the guys in my friend group I actually met through airsoft.
Tbh, the amount I've spent on airsoft (probably just shy of 1k usd) doesn't even scratch the amount I've spent on video games. (Probably anywhere from 50k - 100k) Much less how much the wife pays for shoes
You want to get the experience ! Join the army ...don't play at it ..real guns are heavy , smelly , the ammunition is real ...the smoke and carbon gets in your clothes ..it's loud tiring even scary at times with smoke ,lack of sleep and hunger....but it's real war games played for real and people get hurt and killed ...but it's better than firing plastic balls at overweighed office workers that think they are John Rambo ! Muppets .
About the blanks rule: A relative of mine did re-enactment of the 2nd battalion 95th rifles from the napoleon era but because there's walls of people firing "volleys" and they're flintlock rifles and unreliable, you "died" when your rifle jammed
In every reenactment of musket battles, I've always found it's picking from a hat, deciding if you die (With a set number of dead picks, and set number of alive picks). You wouldn't really want the French winning Waterloo now would you?
I could feel the vibe of the dad and son duo. I dragged my dad into airsoft and he loves it. He points to woods saying “that would be an awesome airsoft spot” and stuff like that. We drive an hour to and from our field and we love it
Nothing beats implementing your own version of being tactical and the satisfaction of successfully taking out the other team. I’m not a mil sim guy. But I do love my weekend skirmishes.
Americans and the Russians are the "bad guys" and they're both "good guys." I agree with the statement they should be neutral. The fact people hate on airsofters dressing as someone from another country or someone from history is VERY ignorant and just stupid. I have to mention that you can be very anti war and still enjoy playing war games. I'm someone who hates war and disagree with 99% of wars and I still love war games.
Humans are conflictual creatures and we find ways to cause conflict one way or another. But through history, people have come up with ways to simulate those death defying moments and that feeling of being in conflict or to be able to push those feelings of wanting to fight something or shoot something onto more and more safe targets. I personally believe that if we allow ourselves to be more open minded and be able to have fun while still immersing ourselves in simulated conflict, in a way, it helps releases those urges and feelings and make us less aggressive and more kind to each other because "we're just a bunch of good bros". =)
I personally think the real reason I like airsoft is that it allows you to access the “fight” part of your fight or flight reflex. It can allow you to go into a mode of pure survival where you just are looking for any threats and eliminating them. Also it’s a really good adrenaline rush.
Something similar happens to me aswell, there’s a 14 yo kid that comes to play at every game we do (we rent the entire field and do private games) and he’s fine but his dad also plays and even if he’s borrowing gear from us he’s extremely good, its scary how good he is at being the sneakiest man alive, he served as a gendarmerie for 3 years and even if he’s 40 when he’s on our team He’s one of the best players we’ve got for sniping, spotting or infiltrating
I havent done airsoft in years, havent been abke to afford gear or find a group, but i got into it when i was in pre boot camp for the marines using airsoft as training for control and tactics during stressful situations. One that stuck with me was one day we were taking the bus to the range and all of a sudden 4 buggys roll up and we are all dragged out and lined up on the side of the road for execution. Instinctively everyone did something to survive and escape down the hill. We all had our pistols and a rubber knife, a few had a rifle as well, so a few freaked and pulled pistols getting executed on the spot which was enough time for me to grab the 2 on either side of me and roll backwards down the hill, from there a barker yelled out that they had 1 hour to find and capture or execute everyone. So me and those 2 went around covered ourselves in mud and debris as we were all in red training shirts and staged a rescue op drawing the assailants one at a time and gathering rescuees to survive, and if possible, retake the bus. You forget that its not real and the adrenaline is high. Me and the other 2 were able to save 17 of 24, 3 were "killed" right off, 2 were caught before we reached them and we couldnt get the final 2 in time as after 45 minutes the assailants bunkered down inside the bus. We had also designated one to return to camp for reinforcements but he didnt make it back before the hour was up. It was the most intense training id ever seen and it really felt like kill or be killed at the time, partly because, like in real life, it happened without warning
When I was about 6 to about 12 years old, me and my friends played "war" with very good looking wooden guns (my brother and I draw really well so back then he drew replicas of the guns on wood and later they were cut out and some details were carved on some of the better looking guns). It was the most amazing thing ever. Slowly crawling in a dark and tight corridor with a light at the end, being able to see your enemies, but they can't see you. Playing with pistols, shotguns, snipers and rifles. It was AMAZING. Kinda miss that and that's probably why I like airsoft (don't play airsoft by myself though).
My dad is so against airsoft saying he is terrorfied of airsoft, and that "we" are disconnected from reality by thinking that shooting at ourselves is a game. To his defence, he has been in the war, but i see it as only a game nothing to be scared of...
I mean...thats fair if he dislikes it. Probably gives him ptsd seeing his kids use replicas and shoot each other. I see airsoft as harmless and fun. And also a way to learn and get excersize. But don't be angry at him. He probably has had nightmares of his kids getting hurt. He still loves you, even if it doesn't seem like it.
I mean it's still hard to imagine, since no troops are there to actually "duke it out", and if they were to go there, that's when we all need to be VERY concerned about nukes, so that is extremely unlikely to happen.
Great video and great points made. Jet and Leah really were the best to do this. They were patient and really tried to show airsoft the way we all experience it. Honestly - I’m considering having my grandma watch the documentary because she’s hardcore polish and she can’t understand why I play 😂
I love Airsoft and I'd do it in a heartbeat if it weren't for the fact that I'm on meds that thin my blood and make me bruise. If I didn't have those meds, I could be found on a milsim tomorrow. And i would be one of the best snipers out there.
Well i used to be on similar meds and when i played i simply wore long clothes, just jacket and some leggings. The most vulnerable part if me was my neck and ears but a simple gator neck could solve that
I think the moral dilemma they try to give is kinda pointless. Milsim and airsoft is not done to offend it is done for fun and sometimes to educate those on real military conflict. I also agree that Milsim definitely doesn't even come close to represent airsoft as a whole however you can't really argue a moral dilemma if it's a dude in jeans shooting a pistol and a dude in a paintball mask running around like a mad man.
This is actually awesome . My kid got me into Airsoft I agreed cause it beats having him play on Xbox. Now it’s a weekend event and we have fun most people are great. Ordering my ssg-10 in a week. Keep up the vids
In the site I go too in Ireland I’ve seen many dad and kid groups, me and my dad go together as well and he loves it. More kids should probably get their parents into airsoft.
My dad actually came with us to a game weekend in france because he didnt really have any idea what normal airsoft is like he just thougt of milsims so we took him with us and as far as i can say he did enjoy it and even owns a cz p09 replika now
I have a cz po9 airsoft also and mannnn I've seen reviews and how reliable the real deal is. Almost 21 but might be a little longer to afford dat lol. Nice choice tho
I feel that they wanted to please what they thought most people would want just by looking for the one biggest event and thought that it was the biggest and naturally the best however in airsoft that isn’t the case it is different for everyone no matter if u want to stew around with your friends or hunker down and be Russian for a day we can all agree airsoft is one of the best sports around
this is about milsim mainly a lot of the stuff they talked about wouldnt make sense in a normal airsoft field even tho people still dress up for that too
As an FYI, all blankfire ammunition is inspected prior to event start during the checkin. Player is also given a brief competency test to ensure that they know the rules of operating it, and how to safely operate their firearm.
I'm 15 and I started playing airsoft a month ago and my dad comes along with me because he wants to spend time with me and I don't care we sometimes see each other playing but at breaks we talk and refill mags, etc together and talk about the previous game. It's really good
"Parents play airsoft with kids" - Here in Hungary the limit to play airsoft you need to be 16 year old and parental consent certificate needed also. Or one adult person should come with you. Some fields allow kids over 14 to play in training games, but it's not very common. Sometimes parents are playing with the kids to have also fun :)
The conversation about blanks reminded me of a story my dad told me where he was watching a swat training routine where they clear a building untill they get it right, one of the "bad guys" hid behind the door because they are trained to check everywhere. The guy behind the door had blanked loaded in his gun when the guys walked by and diddent check the door he left from behind the door and put his gun to the guys hear not that close though, pulled the trigger and his ear started bleeding cause the shot was so loud and it was indoor.
i play Airsoft with my dad. although being 25... its really great to have something like this to bond with my dad over as we only really play airsoft and go fishing but only rarely
8:30 My parents are polar opposites when it comes to airsoft. When my mom came to a game with me, she just worked on her computer the whole time. When my dad came he built a small fortress with fiberglass cases and got at least 10 kills.
“White Caucasian males dressed up as taliban” and “have you ever been to russian?” I bet she couldn’t wait to say “Cultural appropriation” Vice should attend a /k/‘s nugget feast
About who plays the bad guys, would be great to see fictional factions in MilSims. In videogames there's a lot of invented nations with very good looking flags that would make extremely good-looking patches for Airsoft *Coff* *Coff* Ace Combat *Coff* *Coff*
@@louisarius9672 Yep ! Before I stopped playing I used Metal Gear patches, Militaires Sans Frontieres on the left arm, and Diamond Dogs on the right. It was cool
My 9yr old begged to go play a few weeks ago. I'm 47 and used to play paintball way back in the early 90s so I figured it would be somewhat similar. I was a bit worried about him getting shot and not liking it, but he turned out to be a killer! Haha The next week the whole family went to play and three weeks later, we all have our own guns/gear. My boys are completing their chores to buy upgrades, gear, etc, and they are on their video games way less. I see this as a win/win! * typing this while waiting for a new gun to arrive from evike...
Honestly, trying to even experience an airsoft gun as something from death and actual war is hard, because consciously, you just know it as something for fun, and a toy gun.
That’s a pretty good and informative documentary. If you study journalism they did a great job asking questions like a “normal” non-airsofter and the resolution was good. The reporter encouraged airsoft.
Great video! Lots of great talking points about airsoft. Just one thing, my OCD won't let go of the missed opportunity to perfectly align the snipers rifle barrels in the background to the silver strips. Just saying.
In Bergen, Norway we often just play Blue vs yellow team... or other colors. No country or anything... we even have rules that dont allow political, racial or religious conversations during games. At our field we have a system set in place were kids from 13years and up can join, given that their parents have allowed it and we have a "brother" system where every player under 18 get a "brother" to turn to during games. So of guns fail, they get hurt or missunderstand rules. Then they can allways turn to the "brother" and ask for help. The most important aspect of the game is that everyone have fun, and no one get in fights or anything. in the end of the day we are all friends that enjoy the sport and treats it like a sport and nothing else.
You both made good points about how Vice is as always slightly out of touch. There is almost no politics in the game. Its roleplay, its not glorification. The distinction is almost impossible to draw from an outside perspective, but every kid understands the want of going out on an adventure, of playing dress up. Very hard topic to cover correctly, but the reporter made a good conclusion. Also yeah why no speedsoft :(
Blanks in Milsim West are pretty safe for the most part. You have to use a blank gun or a normal gun modified to be a blank gun. The guns are modified in a way that even if you tried to chamber a normal round it would be impossible. Only certain approved individuals get to use blanks. All ammo and guns are checked several times before the event. The guns and person can be searched at any time to ensure safety. They have to follow all gun safety rules such as treat every gun as if it is always loaded with real ammo, never point your muzzle at something you don’t intend to destroy, always keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to fire, always keep your gun on safe until you are ready to fire. The time he talked about ringing ears from a blank means the person didn’t follow the rules. There is a 20ft fan to the side and in front of you for people with blanks at milsim west. If someone is within those 20ft you are not allowed to fire your gun.
honestly wisah my countrys prime minister actually watched something like this. not even gel blasters are legal in most states in AUS. was a nice vid, hope i can enter the sport at some point in the future!
I really like the the idea of a mil sim! So I’m really interested in, how it is, to do something like that in Austria?! Like a mountain mil sim🤷♂️ do you Novritsch have maybe any plans to organize something like this in the future! I really love to participate 🤩🥳
I agree with Josef's opinion. We all have fun and joke around in the airsoft field. Once we're outside of the field, we live a normal lives. Also that pledge before milsim west is really good. Just play the game and have fun.
airsofters seem pretty good at it too. Shame other groups cant take note from it. I have more right leaning views but most my friends lean left. However its because of our shared interests and willingness to get along that our politics doesn't ever matter and we basically never talk about it. I mean one friend of mine has massive differences to me politically, but he is my buddy I always call upon to play fortnight or cod
For blank rounds at milsim west you must use a BFA (blank firing attachment) which screws into the barrel of the weapon and will stop at least 2 live rounds before coming off.
See the thing about this though as you're having fun and no one's actually getting hurt and it gives you a rough idea of what the military deals with on a in normal basis.
Hi great video just wanna comment on the bit about the Dad playing Airsoft with his son I’m in the UK and I enjoy it just as much my son does he’s 14 and we both have a sniper rifles from you each he has the SSG 10 and I have the SSG 96
I would say airsoft is closer to cosplay meets battlefield than call of duty, I don't see anyone going prone while shooting at someone 5 feet away from him/her or yelling HEY STOP USING THAT OVERPOWERED GUN YOU FUCKING NOOB! or something like that. Also I want to go to milsim west now even though all I got is a stock cyma mk12 and a novritsch mk23
