What Do Redstone Comparator Do In Minecraft?

After hundreds of hours researching I almost gave up but I found this video I watched this video 10 times frame by frame and now I still don't know how redstone comparator works

The redstone comparator was always the trickiest thing to not understand without looking it up outside of the game for myself, thank you for explaining :)

I hate to say this but I think it needs to be said. I don't know if there's any science to this but I think there's almost always a natural order to explaining things: 1. Purpose. If the learner doesn't know what purpose does the thing being explained serve, they may as well be wondering for a good while what that is without paying attention to what's being said or even quit. Because after all, why make an effort to learn anything unless you know it can be useful to you? Never assume the learner already knows the purpose. I've been playing Minecraft for 4 months already and although I have come across some sorts of redstone circuits, I have never tried to figure out how their components work. 2. Fundamental information. Any other fundamental information comes always after purpose. 2.1 How it's made. Quite obviously after I know its purpose will suit me, I want to know how to make it. 2.2 General description. Here goes a broad or undetailed description. 2.3 Examples of usage and their intricacies. This is the third piece of practical information. 2.4 How to destroy it, store it, improve it, whatnot. Fundamental information of a secondary class, meaning it's not information one needs in order to obtain whatever the thing or to make it work, but it has a practical use at times. 3. Additional information. Nothing really that practical, all the less essential. Just curiosities or interesting details. Don't get me wrong. I do appreciate the information and effort. I just personally find it somewhat tedious to follow in the order it was presented (repeaters too). I think my criticism is constructive enough and I hope it's taken that way.

This is just a video summarizing the Minecraft wiki page about comparators. What I really want to know is...what is the use for a comparator? Why do I care about comparing or subtracting signal strengths? Can you provide some simple examples about why it would be advantageous to use a comparator?

If you guys didn't understand it the comparator gives out a signal depending in the chest example like he said if the chest is full it will give a redstone signal 15 and if the chest doesn't have any item on it it will give signal 0 and when you put a comparator and a chest comparator will on when a the chest have a things enside it in one things like sand it will give the comparator a 1 redstone signal and every block gives a redstone signal depends on the block.

So in a nutshell it's useful for detecting when something is inside a block, basically the measuring version of the observer
