I normally eat Cereal & Toast for Breakfast, but on the weekends my favourite thing to cook for breakfast is either Bacon & Eggs or Pancakes with maple syrup, yummy!
i totally did not know about the coffee etiquette thing too. for all my life i just sat anywhere i like and ordered drinks from wherever i like hahahahaha
i only happened to know when i went to East Coast. The stall owner literally told us not to sit elsewhere cuz the other seat are not from his stall and he will be scolded if his customers sit at other place. I find it funny
This unspoken rule is actually illegal in most public hawker centres. There are literally signs saying "Customers can sit anywhere"...especially in places with more tourists. It will die a natural death. Most youngsters do not know it too, and will probably deliberately buy from other stalls if they knew the rule exists just to spite the stall owners for it lol.
Sometimes I tried to eat less oily breakfast like porridge+ scrambled fried eggs + cabbage+ "dao pok" soaked in marinated soy sauce + pork....other days may have western breakfast from outside or local delights! Sometimes we cook our own western breakfast. Scrambled eggs+ spinach+ bratwurst+ mushrooms+ tomatoes+ bread. Awesome taste from my own cooking👍
Within this hawker centre there is a stall that sells crispy curry puffs, remains flaky even when cold. If Old Changkee is nice, this would be awesome.
yea! and drizzle some of that delicious chilli sauce , yum! but if i go old chang kee, curry puffs and chicken wings are a must, sometimes a dessert pie (taro/corn). Cant wait to go visit singapore for the holidays!
I think my personal favorite is definitely eggs and kaya toast! Dipping that kaya toast in the soft boiled eggs with some pepper and soy sauce. ITS THE BEST COMBINATION! 😍
Dim sum, nasi lemak, mincemeat noodles, wonton noodles, economic noodles, yong tau fu, mee rebus, mee siam, roti prata, apom, chapati, thosai, putu mayan, glutinous rice dumplings, chee chong fun, soon kueh, toast, porridge, carrot cake, curry rice, laksa, fried kway teow, duck noodles, Malay kuehs, teochew kuehs, hokkien kuehs. This is all I can think of for now from the 3 different races. Yes do a collab like buzzfeed, British food exchange with Singapore food.
Masala THosai, Roti PraTa, Kuay Chap, Mee RUBus, Carrot Cake(black, white), You tiao mixed with kopi O, economic noodles, MeeSiam, LonToNg, Ban MiAn, soy bean drink + Grass Jelly...
Usually I will have bread and coffee. Sometimes nasi lemak, lontong, prata or dhosai with teh tarik for breakfast. They’re all from hawkers or cofeeshop.
Have you taken your dinner yet? Where do I take it to? Oh, have I eaten my dinner yet. (this still gets me) I gave up sugar ten years ago and struggle with the sweetened condensed milk used in local tea/coffee. I have to have home made tea with "whitener" to enjoy a cup. Gan bei!
My faves for sure carrot cake (slight preference for black but some stalls do the white better!) and chwee kueh! Grew up having those from Ghim Moh Hawker Centre, the stalls there are the best. Also not really a fan of chee cheong fun but handmade, fresh ones are really good! Those that are sooo thin and wrapped with ingredients, served in light savoury sauce. Some hawker centres and coffee shops have that, like Pek Kio Market. Tim Ho Wan and Swee Choon also do it in that style. Another breakfast item I had as a child was prata 😍
Hi guys.. Jade n Georgia. By the way Georgia u must try the best Nasi Lemak in town at Boon Lay market. Also Popeye's chicken over KFC anytime. Dominos over pizza Hut for me
Everytime I eat kaya toast I will open the sandwich and locate whr the butter which is always most likely in the middle and then I will proceed to close it and just eat around the sides as to not eat the butter and save my final bite with that one slab of butter in the kaya toast
The food looks great and tasty. You should try breakfast "chui kueh" radish on steamed rice cupped cakes. Another lesser known breakfast but is healthy fish or minced pork porridge. Other popular tourist food like white or black carrot cakes, indian roti prata, Malay mee siam, nasi lemak are regular Singaporean breakfast.
Personally, hot coffee and spicy stuff don't mix well for me though. The afterburn still lingers after the meal and it'll bum you for the rest of the day....
oh my gosh...i miss all of these food! Too bad that the closest place I can get Singapore food is in Chinatown, London and it's at least a 2 hour Easyjet flight away! :D
I see you trying Chinese food most of the time while in SG! Why not try going into Malay and Indian food too! Would love to see you trying them and doing a video on it.
Breakfast at The Marketplace @ 58 (google searched). All typical Singapore food fares But only opens till 11am(most of them). See a line? You'll know what to do. There's a few coffee shops surrounding it too.
Oh man.. I was at this hawker center one week ago, and sat infront of a drink stall. Upon sitting down, the stall lady and man approached me at different timing asking for my order. When I declined politely (because I brought my own water), I was frowned upon. When my bf got to the table I told him to order a drink from them because they seemed really upset with me.... Now I learned that it's an 'etiquette' in the hawker setting. Good local knowledge!
The reason people go to hawker centre is for varieties and choices of food n beverages and its free seating concept. Since when such etiquette exists? I don't think we should allow these stallholders to dictate the rules. If their food/drinks are not up to standard, they should do something about improvement and not force people to buy from them. Free market is about competition, not charity. If some people want to help them is fine, but please don't make it a rule and spoil the market.
Ba Chor Mee, Wanton noodles, fried carrot cake Black or white, Lor Mee, Braised duck noodles dry, Prawn noodles dry or Fried bee hoon mee with fried chicken wing and egg. Hehe...
@@GeorgiaCaney I like to go Tiong Bahru market for breakfast. There are wanton noodles, Lor Mee with shark meat and prawn noodles which are not bad. You can also try the Chui Kuey and Tiong Bahru Bao.
Hey Georgia you should try other type of dishes (e.g. Malay, Indian, Indonesian, fusion etc.)for breakfast. And yes I agree with Jade, Nasi Lemak is teeny bit heavy for breakfast. 😅 but it's akin to a good ol' Sunday Roast, wholesome and feels like home.
Whaaat?? Drinks stall etiquette?? Isn't the rule in hawker centres, free seating??! I've always sat wherever I want and ordered from whoever I want. All my life. And never got any dirty looks or salty words from any kopi hawker 😳
Yeah, my late granny used to have a coffee stall in Bugis and the coffee etiquette is so strong... it's like Threshold Population for Coffee Stalls... 😂
If you dont like chee cheong fun but like dim sum, then you should try chee cheong fun at dim sum place that will be much much tastier than the one u had at marketplace.
its really rare for English (heavy tea drinker usually) to like our kopi. I too find it comforting haha. The condensed milk just gives that creamy feel to complement the roasty taste of coffee. Glad that you like our socks coffee culture. cheers =)
Ladies, have you both tried the fishball noodles at bugis street and clark quay? Its really nice! Oh, and the chicken rice beside the fishball noodles stall are not bad too.
About local coffee or asian coffee, some westerners will like it while other westerners will call it "slut coffee" for the fact that it was roasted and with added fragrance...etc ! Something like that
But to be honest, many of us Singaporeans would have eaten Western breakfasts before right. :D Not the "localised Western breakfast"...but the ones Georgia would have eaten in Europe?
