We installed a new DEF pump and it is making a lot of noise. A hammering sound. It is up in a compartment so was that just noise due to mounting location or was there still a problem. Lets take a look and see.
Is there a location on the DEF pump to connect a gauge to constantly monitor this pressure ? When a DEF pump tank runs empty is this a standard procedure to remove the air from the line ?
Great questions. No port to measure pressure. The pressure sensor is built inside the def pump. The def pump is capable of priming itself but if it can't for some reason ( usually that is dirt embedded in the pumping seals or its a new pump and the seals are dry) We pull the line off the def doser that is mounted on the dosing pipe to let air easily escape. I am referring to the Non UL2 system. In extreme cases you can put a piece of hose on the inlet to the pump and put the def supply (bucket or box) above the pump with the line off the injector to get the air out.
