After watching this video, I THINK I have a bad gyro. My quad has sometimes motors too hot to touch after it refuses to lose altitude at zero throttle and sometimes tries to fly away by gaining altitude even at zero throttle. The motors sometimes make a horrible tinny grind sound when the quad is trying to fly away. I set my blackbox graph like you had. In a matter of a few milliseconds the D-Term peaks way up, then way down. P-Term peaks 1/3 the height as the D-Term, but opposite of the D-Term. Motors on the right side spin up near full throttle, then slow and the motors on the left spin up near full throttle, then slow and this goes on back and forth. All while my sticks are not really moving and throttle stick is very low. This must be an attempt to flyaway. Right side increases altitude, then the left side which catches up to the altitude of the right, and back and forth in a matter of milliseconds. Then when I give it full throttle to pop up in the air, the oscillation goes away in the Blackbox graph. Very strange. No problem with the quad for several months. One day 3 batteries fly fine and the 4th it starts refusing to reduce altitude and attempts to flyaway. Thanks for the video. I THINK I have this figured out. I am going to change the FC and see if the problem goes away. If that fixes it, I have other bad FCs and AIO boards with the same MPU6000 gyro on it. I can try to replace the gyro and see if I can save the FC because these things are getting hard to find and are expensive.

My omnibus F4 is doing literally the same thing but only on the Yaw axis. Did you replace the Fc and confirm it was the gyro? Im still trying to figure out the issue. I have blackbox and gopro footage of mine as well if you'd like to take a look. This issue started happening after a crash. The crash was not that hard but still managed to bend two motor shafts and break an arm. Since that crash i have replaced the motors and arm but have this twitch now. Like yours two motors seem to flip out at random times during the flight. Even more crazy is if i arm the quad in my hand with no props and slowly move the quad left and right on the yaw axis i can feel these same twitches when it attempts to correct, again they are random and sparatic.

Hi Joshua, I made a new quad, I went to a hover flight and it flew amazing , today I went for a crazy flight and when I flip really fast 1000• sec the quad is just restarting in the air crashing to the ground , it happens 3 times to me : the first time I thought the charging cables could be in the props way ( but nothing Brocken ) second and 3th time there was also nothing. I didn’t try more times .. what could it be ? It is calibrated , it has 3.2.1 betaflight and omnibus f4. Cheers and thanks

If it is really restarting, like you hear the ESC startup tones in your HD camera footage then you are losing power. I would check the XT60 first. Is it loose? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UYXTiSeVmB0.html

When running 4khz does the gyro get overclocked also? If so is it possible that overclocking the gyro damaged it somehow?
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 8 лет назад
+Stephen Gibb the gyro is always running at 8 kHz internally when the gyro_lpf is off. It just drops samples to reduce the output rate. This is how it's designed to work. There isn't any over clocking there. Boris has over clocked the i2c bus to get 4 kHz out of the chips using i2c. This should not cause any damage but it could possibly cause corrupted data on the bus. The corrupted data would be detected though.

Hey Josh, Im having an issue where I am having to plug in 3 or 4 times before my copter completes its tones/bind same thing happens in beta flight. I've replaced all electronics besides my hobbywing f4 board and wondering if you've had this problem.... Reason Being is I had replaced everything to begin with caused from a roll and the quad bolted straight into the ground 2x. Survived the 1st but happened again. I don't want it to happen for a 3rd, what could be the cause you think?

If you have to plug multiple times to get the startup tones, then there is some hardware issue or wiring issue. Process of elimination (replace parts) to find what it is.

I would start with the FC personally, since it is affecting all four ESCs. Worth checking if the XT60 is loose. That could be it.

I replaced everything besides my flight controller hobbywing help mention to take off accelerometer. I'm just nervous it might bug out again but other than that if flies so smooth and perfect...

I will check the xt60. ty

So it eventually my quad syncs and no problem while flying. It takes a few plug ins and after no problems flys like butter.... Weird huh?

Hi Joshua, I love your videos... it's just great that you share all your findings. On my newest quad I have a similar isse with motor twitching. In my Case the roll gyro seems to be broken, because in the log the twitch is only visible on the roll axis. The pids and gyro for all the other axis just run straight. Here's a screenshot of a twitch prntscr.com/ayf9eo this might be interesting to you. I wrote to armattan support and explained my conclusion that the gyro must be broken. They agreed and shipped a new F1 board (still waiting for it to arrive). Oh and I might add that this issue only is present when flying 4s which is kinda curious.

Sometimes glitches only show up at higher vibration levels. That may be why it shows up at 4s.

I have 3 naze rev 6b boards that all fly with a twitch that looks identical in blackbox. I loosened the screws that hold the board down and the problem completely goes away. so my copter flies great with a very loose FC. I like this solution but it's the only solution I could find. I'm thinking of trying gyro tape mounting the FC but I have no reason to change or right now since it flies so well.

+quiljw01 Interesting. I wonder why holding the screws too tight would do that.
@MrBwest1
@MrBwest1 8 лет назад
Same here with the screws to tight. I've been through different motors, 4 Rev 6 and 2 Rev 5. I've only noticed this issue while using LB 20s, LB30s and some people reported it with XM20s. If I switch back to SN 20s or 30s it flys perfectly on the same equipment. Weird to say the least.

Same issue with naze. Going to give the loosen solution a try
@MrStevegibb

+VIKO FPV I wonder if the clamping force is bending the board a little and consequentially the gyro. Alternatively it could just be the gyro being sensitive to certain vibrations that are not getting transferred with loose screws.
@VIKFPV

+Stephen Gibb yeah I am not sure so I loosen up everything and changed the board now I think it's my escs. I switched it to a dodo

the motor torch is disturbing the gyro, what motors are you using? over 2500KV
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 8 лет назад
+dungeonsound1 2633 kv.
@dungeonsound1
@dungeonsound1 8 лет назад
yup, new Gyros are sensitive to these new motors low end torque, run them on a Rev5 and they're alittle better. but same issues, you try to tune it out and its a compromise. not acceptable. if you could take the board off the copter and hold in you hand and spin up the motors, no issues, because the board is not disturbing the Gyro. I bet your other board was OK. people are using MoonGu and taping there boards in to get acceptable results. low end Torque, and the active breaking. it will kill a battery. so becareful. Found this issue present with the Emax2600kv and the DYS2750kv

+dungeonsound1 my setup is a Cobra 2204 2300 kv motor and I have had this problem on 2 Rev5s and 4Rev6s.
@MrBwest1
@MrBwest1 8 лет назад
+dungeonsound1 though when I run SN20 or 30s rather than LB 20s the issue goes away with any motor I've tried high kv included. I want to believe it's as easy as you're explaining but that's not the case on my bench.

I'm curious to see what happens if you loosen your FC. here is my bb of the same exact problem. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bhhRuRo5s10.html

+quiljw01 Your comments didn't show up immediately because they contain a link to another RU-vid video and they get held up for review by the spam filter. Right now, I've gone back to 2.4.1 and have the FC on vibration-damping bumpers. I will try 2.6.1 again on my next build, but I'm so glad to have this copter back to flying well that I'm not going to screw around with it for now.

+Joshua Bardwell glad to hear it's flying well now. I know exactly how you feel, I got sick of troubleshooting so I just left mine loosely mounted, can't believe it works! can you post a picture of your setup with vibration dampers?

+Joshua Bardwell also what curious are on your FC?
@Jrod_FPV
@Jrod_FPV 8 лет назад
+quiljw01 sorry, which GYROS are on your FC? I know naze rev 6 all sub revisions have the mpu6500 gyros which I have read are "noisy". I'm thinking we are experiencing real life proof of this noise as shown in the twitch.
