What Is Ambrette?
Ambrette is also known as Musk Mallow: Ambrette is a seed taken from a type of Hibiscus Flower. It’s quite a large yellow flower that also has a very deep dark purplish and pink center. The seeds of Ambrette are what are used to replace the usage of real deer musk. The experience of Ambrette is a very vegetal skin-like musk experience. But be warned Ambrette is much more subtle when compared to real deer musk. And also less animalic but animalic like facets can be had when combined with certain notes but I don’t experience overly animalic touches with Ambrette Seeds in perfumes. I personally love the Ambrette seeds subtleties and hence why I love this particular note. What does it smell like?
What Does Ambrette Smell Like?
I get a medicinal, slightly metallic, fruity, boozy, musky experience from Ambrette. And I’m hooked. It’s quite phenomenal as a smell. Apparently, it’s expensive and there is a synthetic version of it called Ambrettolide which I have smelled in my travels with a perfumer and the stuff is awesome as well. But we are focusing on Ambrette today.

Great video, really like the idea for the new playlist! I just got the Le Labo discovery set, and am currently testing Ambrette 9. It's so good! Definitely isn't a loud one as you said, but the scent is incredible. I also have tried Egoiste, and loved it. Pretty keen to try out the Peau d'Ambrette

This just happened to pop up today and its perfect! I've wanted to try all 5 frags u listed and have been interested in ambrette for a while too. And its great to know the similarity/differences between No.18 and Ambrette 9. Peau/Bois D'Ambrette, Fleur de Peau, and Over The Musk are all frags ive been wanting to try. Great video!

Mugler’s Over the Musk is fabulous. The Diptyque is definitely on my want list. Ambrette is why I ❤️ Tom Ford’s White Patchouli so much. It’s loaded with it. Love this series! 👍

Over the musk is my favorite too. Especially the drydown, radiant, clean, warm woody musk. Sadly discontinued.

I used to wear Egoiste, it was my favorite. Nice to know it features ambrette. I recently planted Ambrette in my garden and was planning to make a tincture, but you need about a thousand seeds for that.

I love Ambrettolide it has that woody, fluffy, clean, warm, radiant and fruity quality. My favorite Musk fragarance is Over the Musk actually, but sadly discontinued. Since there is nothing like it on the market I am planning on creating my own musky woody warm fragrance featuring Ambrettolide, Aurelione, Hedione, Ambrox DL, Dreamwood my own musk accord with Habanolide, Cashmeran and Galaxolide and a touch of vanilla, black pepper, vertenex and iso e super, dihydromyrcenol an a touch of jasmine accord for warmth and a touch of Iris butter and Methyl gamma ionone. That's all 😀 Ambrettolide as a musk doesn't work with florals that well, more with spicy warm fragrances. It was featured by the way in Black Cashmere by Donna Karan, alongside Hydrocarboresine, Lyral and Bacdanol.

Sebastian. There's a fragrance by Kristen Ess called "The One", you can still find it on Amazon. Used to be at Target (yes Target). The haircare line. Leans a little fem but OMG the cloud and longevity for a light scent.

Two other great fragrances with ambrette are L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme and L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Eau Extreme (LIDGE). Love them both!

Ambrette to me has a cumin or Body Odor smell, but in a good way if that makes sense. No18 is an absolute favorite. A very sexy fragrance.

Thank God for substitute notes like Ambrette, we cause enough destruction to animals and the environment as is, using them for perfume is as unnecessary and cruel as using them for food #GoVeganForTheAnimals. Atelier Materi’s “Cacao Porcelana” is great too btw😍

My newest fragrance is a real favorite and it is Ambrette de Noir by Aerin. Check it out! I think it would even be a safe blind-buy and I never blind-buy anything. But this is a beautiful easy-reach perfume that will be a staple in my collection. It projects but it is subtle and non-offensive.

Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews it depends on what it’s paired with. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. It makes a good clean musk scent, but to me, it’s nothing like dear musk.

Ambrette is an absolute seduction. My favorite that I reach for is Zenga's Peruvian Ambrette. It has all the medicinal qualities you identify in the Nr. 18 with woods (guaiac) and orris root. It's certainly a masculine scent which almost reads as somewhat leathery. I'm going to search out the Nr. 18 next.
