Romans 6:1-4 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, so that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, who are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Do you not know, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Baptism is a picture of what it means to be dead to sin. It is a symbolism of death. ‭ Water baptism is about dying with Christ so we can be raised to walk in a new life. There are many symbolic baptisms in the Scripture. They have to do with: deliverance from an enemy; death by crucifixion; being placed by the Holy Spirit in the Body of Christ; and identifying with the death of Christ and his resurrection.
