Thank you I'm so keen to see the rest of the series. You always give out such a positive vibe in whatever video you make which makes it awesome especially for those of us who don't have a lot of experience with hypnosis. Thank you

Great to hear you're doing a new set of Hypnosis 101 videos, they're always interesting and enjoyable. I suspect I'm one of those people you referred to who think they haven't been hypnotised. I understand that it's a continuum rather than a binary on/off, but it seems I can only get so far along it. I can achieve physical relaxation, especially if the induction includes mindful breathing, but find that my mind doesn't relax so easily. As you'll probably guess, I'm very analytic, probably over-analytic, and find it very hard to switch off. Do you have any advice to help me get that little bit more mentally relaxed? Thanks!

I have a video planned about this because it's a super common question. Answer to come shortly :)

Thanks. Look forward to watching the video. Then maybe I will finally find out what hypnosis really feels like - or maybe discover that I already do, but just hadn't realised...

Is hypnosis still effective if your mind wanders? I've listened to some hypnosis videos (including yours which are great btw) before and sometimes your voice fades out. Does the subconscious mind still receive the suggestions? Thanks again Alicia for another great video!

Thank you. Really good question :) I'll definitely answer it in a video.

100% great idea. These videos will be really good. I'm curious. Can you hypnotise people out of 'negative' habits? For example, if you had a pack-a-day smoker who did no other work on the habit, are you capable of 'hypnotising' them out of the habit? If so, how many sessions would this typically take?

Thanks Mark. Great question! I'll be sure to answer in detail :)

Can you talk about your training? I have recently discovered hypnosis and have been looking at various places for information but haven't seen a real detailed description of what the schools are like. Thank you and love the 101's!

Definitely! Hypnosis training is something I'm passionate about. In the meantime, I have a blog post about it here aliciafairclough.com/blog/

Hi Alicia, really enjoy your videos. I have a question, if your hypnotised but then not given the command to wake up, do you naturally come out of it. Or do you stay hypnotised. Thanks

I have a question: Has the fact that you are a hypnotist and knowing all the patterns, language, conventions, and concepts of hypnosis hindered your ability to be hypnotized? I know it has for me, as I'm a hypnotist myself. Whenever I listen to files, I can't seem to stop myself from trying to predict what the hypnotist is going to do. I know that I'm a pretty darn high physical suggestible, so that probably isn't the problem. Maybe it's different with a real live hypnotist, as I haven't had a session with a real one yet. What are your thoughts on the subject? PS: Love your videos! :D

Being hypnotised now feels like work for me. It definitely makes it challenging. Thanks for watching :) x

Thanks so much for your reply! Another major struggle for me is telling people about hypnosis, especially my friends because its kind of awkward because of all the myths and misconceptions about it. Its also hard to tell my friends about it because it's like: Hey here's a whole part of my life that I haven't told you about! Has it been hard for you to introduce hypnosis to other people? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, it feels like every ounce of your body, depending on topic, and on focus, achieving various levels of relaxation. Like a massage chair for your entire body.. except with hypnosis the results differ. You can have a smooth sensation, like someone is placing a blanket over you , to an extreme reaction to someone claiming to take over your brain. It all depends on what your looking for.
@AliciaFairclough
@AliciaFairclough 7 лет назад
True. I feel like relaxation sessions are like a massage for your brain... Which on reflection sounds disgusting... :/

have you seen any papers or books that include research on hypnotic sugestibility with autism spectrum disorder also known as aspburgers . I have it and was looking for some infomation about the affcted areas of the brain . i love your videos . keep up the good work

Really glad you're enjoying the videos! I am not familiar with any hypnosis research that relates to aspergers I'm sorry. There may be some though so you could Google around though I'm always very wary of hypnosis 'research' and how reputable it is (or isn't). Thanks for watching :)

Is there a suggested maximum daily dose of hypnosis? Probably not, but years ago, for three days, I tranced for hours past midnight and then could not get fully awake for a whole weekend. My mind felt very fuzzy. Sounds seemed muffled. Maybe it was more about lack of sleep, but I really thought I had broken my brain over this newfound internet novelty. Web research eased my panic somewhat, and on Sunday afternoon, I could feel and hear my mind clearing in a couple minutes. It did teach me the value of moderation. Haven't "binge tranced" since.

Hi Alicia,were you born and raised here in England? I love your videos and thank you for the ones relevant to me. Would it be possible to do something for PTSD sufferers? Although I realise we dont all suffer the same symptoms x
@AliciaFairclough
@AliciaFairclough 7 лет назад
Australian :) PTSD is really one of those things that needs to be addressed one on one and is really more suited to a psychologist.

Despite my desire to be hypnotized I also just find myself just listening to the videos like they're an audiobook as in I can picture what's being said and see staircase or escalator but don't feel myself walking or drifting down. Is there a way to help me go under or am I just one of those people who can't be hypnotized?

What is your opinion on the implications of hypnosis for physical health and medicine, and not just mental or psychological health? I have heard of hypnobirthing (a woman being hypnotized to give birth with less labor pain; not to be confused with a man being hypnotized on stage to think he is giving birth :) ) as well as hypnosis being used in place of some anesthetics for certain surgical procedures (I have heard of it but would have to search for a direct reference). Do you think those are safe and viable uses for hypnosis?
@AliciaFairclough
@AliciaFairclough 7 лет назад
Good question :)
@dylantobias5942
@dylantobias5942 7 лет назад
I'm sure that it can help some people through medical procedures, but just like any alternative medical practice, it is probably a good idea to use those methods along side standard treatment rather than as a replacement. For example, I think that if someone wanted to be hypnotized before getting a surgery to help them deal with the procedure better, that would be fine. But using hypnosis in place of anesthesia is probably not a smart idea. I'm not a doctor and this is only my personal opinion. Interesting topic. I wonder if we will see more of it in the future.

Are you saying it's impossible for hypnosis to induce amnesia or that no ethical hypnotist would actually try to do that?
@AliciaFairclough
@AliciaFairclough 7 лет назад
It's possible to induce amnesia (it's not a given that it will work but it is possible) but no ethical hypnotherapist would want someone in their office forgetting what happened.
