You are right. Nobody is friend in that diplomatic world. what counts is how big is their profits. It is true about all countries. We Indians are so bloody sentimental that if any country helps us with some information, they get immediately idea at they are our true friends. Don't really consider what is there for them to help India. Nothing is free of cost in this world. Just give and take. People are naive in India.

India must either junk this or make it the final purchase, and get rid of Soviet equipment once and for all. Dear Sri sir, S-400 Growler is more like an anti-aircraft system and THAAD is basically a BMD shield. What India needs is S-400 because 1. it is unmatchable. Even USA doesn't have such capable system 2. Cause PRC has S-400 3. No, Radar and source code of S-400 can NOT be copied by PRC 4. India already has its own BMD shield at advance stages. Now Why Nalapad and Abhijit are against S-400 purchase because it will make USA upset. Yes USA will. Why? Because USA sees India as its biggest arms importer in future, Once S-400 is deployed, It will send information regarding F-35 or F-16 to Russia. But If India doesn't integrate its American made planes to S-400, those will remain safe. Moreover, THAAD is 3 times more expensive than S-400. Nalapad talked about F-16 assembly line in India. Really? We do NOT need that 70s born plane. How would Indian govt justify that India chose a plane in MMRCA-2 which was shot down by its vintage Mig-21?? GPS uses four sattelites, 3 for triangulation and the fourth for precision. The target for the ASAT test was in a Sun Synchronous Orbit with a surface area of 2 metre square, much smaller than normal Indian commsats

India should concentrate on developing its own defence system. Till then we can keep buying effective defence system from others, which will be good deterrence against hostile neighborhood.

When they impacted, they broke up in all directions and some of the debris was elevated into higher orbits. Even the tiniest bits are potentially dangerous to other objects in low orbit. During a conflict if many antisatelite weapons are used it is feared that these debris clouds could break up other sattelites and cause a chain effect destroying all orbiting objects. This is called the Kessler syndrome and could potentially prevent using low Earth orbit at all by everyone for many decades, significantly changing modern civilization on Earth for generations.

There were articles how russian s400s have successfully confronted the f35 twice near kaliningrad and once f22 raptor near black sea. For india, it says s400 is very effective against j20.
Well Airforce chief has already stated that India is buying S-400 to fill in the gap which has created due to shortfall of squardern strength of indian airforce. It will act as Anti aircraft system to secure indian airspace for any undesirable aircraft. Since most of Indian Airforce is flying vintage aircraft, Airforce desperately need S-400 to Counter any modern threats and fill the technological Gap.
I think so long as we are purchasing AH64 and CH47z dont think the yanks will complain at all. The comparison between turkey and india is not exactly correct as india unlike Turkey is not a part of NATO and therefore we aren't obligated to purchase american manufactured arms and armaments or rather we are free to buy anything we want. To his first remark on satellite launch capability, we have yet to acquire launch capability for satellites heavier than 4-5 tons. Remember this year ISRO had contracted ESA Ariane 5 to launch it's 6 ton satellite? This is the domain where military purpose satellites come in.
The LEOrbit satellite was hit at a height of 300kms. The Geostationary Satellites - GPS, Communication, etc are parked at a height of 32-35000 kms. Rockets may require a cryogenic engine to get there. But the target may be relatively easy to hit.
S 400 is also deterrent tech. China is using much better than this, Direct Energy Weapons which nobody seems to be talking about. This is the tech that could finish the war even before it could begin. I doubt that any jets has capabilities to counter this one. All the future based wars will be based on one's capabilities in space and AI. India seriously need to go ahead with such developments.
Contrary to what Abhijit says, S400, an excellent anti aircraft system can efficiently intercept the kind of ballistic missiles (theatre ballistic missiles, SRBMs and IRBMs) most likely to be used by India's potential adversaries at endoatmospheric or low exo atmospheric level- unlike THAAD which is a dedicated BMD that can defeat ICBMs as well, that way S400 is much more versatile than the THAAD. But yes, Russian solid state electronics capabilities specially in the arena of electronics counter measures, sensor fusion etc are lagging behind the wrst by a decade since 90s were a lost decade for Russia. Also contrary to the detractors of India's S400 import, S400 needs not be integrated with some other american or western system to talk to so the worries about russian spy malware being planted to infiltrate into western security apparatus is grossly unfounded- S400 will be part of India's layered air defence and its monitoring man machine interface (basically a computer screen presenting the S400's radar situation) would be present within IACCS architecture during eventualities for ease of decision making on which system to use for engaging the enemy platforms without any requirement of paring S400 system at hardware or software level with western system since S400 is a standalone system- layers need not be integrated. It is also stupidity to think that S400 would intercept western origin platforms of Indian armed forces instead of Pakistani platforms- what is IFF for then? How do you think western SPYDER air defence system (Israeli) imported by India distinguishes between Russian origin fighters like Su 30 MKIs and sino-Pakistani platforms operated by the PAF? Nobody buys 6 regiments of such a system costing 5 billion USD for wargaming purposes. Also it is plain baloney to assert that S400 stationed near Delhi, a long range air defence system, would intercept Indian jets loitering over Delhi instead of vectoring towards enemy platforms crossing Indian borders. SAMs are generally not fired at adversary air platforms when your own air platforms engage enemy in an air combat which is why no Indian SAM was fired at Pakistani jets in the air pocket where air combat took place between Indian jets and Pakistani jets on the morning of 27th Feb, 2019 (SPYDER SAM that blew up an IAF helicopter with friendly fire was 180-200 km away from the air pocket where air battle took place). USA kicked out Turkey, a defence market perceived by USA as won over for its gall to court russian influence which Washington perceives as disobedience that has to be seen to be punished so that the NATO unity against Russia is not further compromised- that is not the case with India. And a satellite intervepted at 283 km altitude from the earth's surface is not Geosynchronous satellite. Geostationary satellites rotate around the earth at an altitude of 36200 km.

Forces should hav atleast 50 ASAT's Forces should focus on changing there Eneregy dependecy to convert Existing fleet with H2Fuelcells Automobiles and all Tanks that could work on H2fuelcell. Invest in Jet engines to make 160KN in this decade that can run with ALternate abundant fuel thats available with in INDIA. Buy another 8 S-400 Units. Work on jammers on su-30KI to another level and make it coordinate seamlessly with all new weapons,jammers,radars,S-400 unnits.

Low Earth orbit is about hundred kilometre To 300 kilometre on the other hand geosynchronous Orbit means object is 3,6000 kilometres away from earth surface . Nobody has shutdown satellites in geo synchronise Orbit yet even Americans did not demonstrate this capability . Distance of 36000 kilometres is very critical . Slightest difference in trajectory will make projectile thousands of kilometre away from target .

Yeah it does affect but to C & S band radar which are used in our meteorological department Doppler radar. Furthermore military radars generally operate in Ka, Ku & X band which are powerful and see through it. Also, don't forget that Mirage 2000 is not at all stealthy, adding to fact that 12 were used. They weren't detected because they flew very low in valleys and when they popped up for releasing bomb, electronic jamming did rest of job. So they had enough time to return. So, Modiji isn't completely right or wrong.
For your info s400, 400 kms is not the range... Russian tech is class apart.. why else Americans style some of Russian mig aircraft. S400 is not a Staten which is required to be integrated with American planes, it's only a sir defence missile system which is launched by a controlling system... Poor analysis.. if the s 400 was being bought as a training system rather than an operational system, maybe 1 regiment would have been procured rather than 5 regiments for $5 billion. Also the point you made about the s 400 not able to communicate with Indian fighters would not really prevent it from being operationalised. This problem of a lack of integration/ lack of communication between different Indian platforms already persist due to the large spectrum of arms suppliers India has. Also no missile defense system is watertight .This could definitely be exploited by the enemy force. This is well known and IAF knows this. The reason for not going Russian is our strategic interests and it has nothing to do with S400 itself . India needs America to deal with China. We need to choose sides either Russia +China or America , we just can't appease everyone. We can't risk our defense , economic relationship with America for a missile system.

The JF-17 uses the Russian Klimov RD-33 engine at the request of the Pakistanis as they didn't trust the Chinese copy. It is the same engine used in our MiG-29s. We need to remember this when we deal with the Russians.

Well, just remind him that when india bought SPYDER system from Israel, Indian media made similar claims of PAF not coming close to border. But what happened was PAF did came inside, shot a Mig 21 and Su30, targeted the Military HQ and Brigade HQ and went without a scratch. And the same SPYDER system eneded up in shooting their own Mi17 helicopter.
