Just found your channel! Subscribed for sure. I want to farm but this is the side of farming that’s the hardest to find the info on. Everybody wants to sell you equipment and inputs so lots of content for that lol but not much for the farmer, except 3 year old projection reports from the usda that only show losses haha Can’t say thanks enough. I hope you need an umbrella this year and God bless sir
Great video. Thanks for sharing. For wheat/soybeans would it be fair to adjust the overhead higher since with two crops on those acres you have perhaps double the tractor / sprayer / combine hours & fuel than when you just have one crop - like corn? However, I realize each crop takes different "overhead inputs". For example - seems like cotton takes a lot of tractor time plus its own harvester, etc. etc. For the total farm it doesn't matter but it does for deciding what to plant. Again - thanks for your unique video.
Very interesting video. With all the turmoil in supply chains, energy costs, and markets, a few prayers tonight for blessings on next year should be a line in your chart. Good Luck.
Yes the cost of a tractor usally is spread over the entire acreage, a combine is spread over the amount of acres dedicated to grain. On the other hand the various heads grainhead or cornhead either to the varios grains that can be harvested cornhead specifically charged to the corn crop. A new cotton picker only thing you can use it for is picking cotton. The acres devoted to specific crops such as hay and livestock have to cover and pay for that specific machinerybought and dedicated to that crop.
This video is extremely helpful, I’d like to see more of you demonstrating your booking keeping/spreadsheets. Even if you just plugged in fake numbers it would be a great help.
Seed costs are between $35-55/acre depending on the blend and rate. In some instances, I’m able to save at least that much money from reducing herbicides and fertilizer.
The people commenting about Govt. Subsidies have had their heads stuck where the sun don't shine for the past 20 years. They all believe that the reasons farmers farm is because they get rich off Subsidies, problem was with how the old farm subsidy program was administered the govt. Made the mistake of making the payments directly to the producers when actually though they were direct paid to farme overall they were indirect Subsidies paid out to the entire U S citizenry in the savings of food clothing and various other products and benefits of agriculture. In this country we have cheap bread and clothing for one thing. The USDA sincce the 1930's has been tasked with keeping abundant cheap food on the shelves of the country's grocery stores which the have done.
Matt, curious what is the elevated building for if you're looking from your office building on the right and the building with "Griggs Family Farm LLC" on the left. Looks like a grain loader but obviously it cant be. Just curious
Hi Matt, I really like your cost of production spreadsheet. Is that something you created or did you buy a service? I need to figure out what it cost me to grow a crop. David Halsey
But the majority of your expenses are written off via taxes, including equipment. With a proper tax pro, you should literally be able to write most of this off.
?? Most farms might get to buy crop insurance, which is government subsidized, but you still have to pay for it if you want it. The government is pretty useless when it comes to making sure the farmer can stay in business. You're on your own. If you think you can rely on the government, you haven't been paying attention.
@@TwoHappyChildrenFarm most folks know farmers get a government subsidies check I just don't know why farmers don't like to talk about it.they get thousands of dollars
@@chriswilcox1932 I guess you aren't a farmer. I don't get a check from the government, i think like most farmers, the tradeoff in handing them control of your decisions is not worth it.
