Caving is one of the propositions that even just thinking about it gives me anxiety. Squeezes terrify me at a conceptual level. That being said, loved this video! Sorely tempted to get some amazing cave verb action myself...from the safety of my armchair, haha!

y'all the reverb IRs sound absolutely incredible! I can't stop playing keys and pads into layers of convolution caves! Tip: try layering one of @venustheory delay-ish IRs in front of one of Benn's deep cave or tunnel IRs. Then play literally anything into it. Having the emotional connection from the sounds to the story of y'all going to record these makes things interesting too!

Hi Benn have you ever tried stainless steel wine tanks? I was at a vinyard and there was a tank like this, empty, and i clapped my hands inside it, through a door in it. The sound went on for almost one minute.
@oriorb
@oriorb Год назад
That's actually a really easy reverb to replicate- you can model a big stainless steel cask quite easily since all the surfaces inside are predictable and consistent. Makes for a neat reverb but the point of this was to get the dataset for models not usually able to be replicated, since the cave has so many different reflecting surfaces and angles modelling it from scratch would be near impossible.

That idea near the top of using sound and lasers to determine the composition of the material is fascinating. I'm most interested in finding out if that idea ever pans out. I guessing a lot of mining/petroleum exploration could become way more efficient using this? Are there other potential uses?
@enneff
@enneff Год назад
They already do it. Actually a lot of DSP technologies now used in audio (such as the algorithms behind auto tune) were originally developed for petroleum surveying. Oil is big business so of course a lot of thought has been put into how to do it better. 🙂

Just recently bought it and pretty blown away by the quality and possibilities, it is dual convolution reverb (two different IRs at the same time that you can blend with each other) and allows you to record audio input directly into module and turn it into Impulse Responses, amazing stuff, highly recommended!
