African Tigress, I can tell you that many people, even Zimbabweans who stay in South Africa protray this country in a negative way. However through your videos and other Zim RU-vids, I witnessed a completely different picture. Zimbabwea is beautiful. Sometimes we need to love ourselves as Africans before we can expect to be loved by others. Thanks for video. Watching from Pretoria.

Zimbabweans love their country very much, if you think they do not you are very mistaken. The only issue is that they have seen much better than what you are seeing today. I think Mugabe may have driven it to some heights before the sanctions. That is what they remember. So it pains those who have seen it in its former glory. The buildings in Harare and Mutare have basically not changed in more than 25-30 years. They were well painted and it had clean streets, beautiful well flowered gardens and streets. probably the best hotels in Africa. It was second to South Africa in terms of industrialization and was leaving Egypt in the dust. So imagine that the most beautiful building portrays the direction that it was headed until sanctions happened. Most streets in Harare if not all had been paved by 1993. But look at them now. Its biggest stadium is about thirty years. It had electric trains. All airports were working. It was electrified. It had the best water in Africa, the best education and the fastest growing industrial sites. Good small and large scale farming. That was until 1998 and things took a nosedive. Its progress under black rule became its achilles heel. The same jealousy they show towards China. Arguably for no good reason at all.

I guess it's really hard to appreciate what we have when the economy makes day to day living hard for the majority. The beauty of our country unfortunately doesn't translate to enough food on the table or basic services for many. We've seen better days , hope we can rise again.

@@tari2073 Yes, the whole African continent will rise again meaning all the countries in it. This is a prophecy and decades ago a white man higher up told western politicians, scientists and royals Africa will be the world's next and leading super power. Point of correction-Christmas Pass in Mutate ,the mountain pass that leads into the city of Mutare from the west, was named by the Cecil John Rhode’s Pioneer Column as they came into what is today’s modern day Zimbabwe from South Africa,who camped at the foot of the pass on Christmas Day 1890.
@takudzwamazwienduna
@takudzwamazwienduna Год назад
That is not true. The settlers where led by Leander Starr Jameson together with the explorer Selous and they came through the protectorate of Botswana, asked for passage through Bulawayo and Matebeleland from King Lobengula because there was tension and they were afraid the Ndebeles would massacre them because of the Rudd Consession controversy. They finally rested in Masvingo after escaping a huge Ndebele army and they called it Fort Victoria and hosted the Union Jack for the first time in Zimbabwe. The first cricket match was also played there. Most of them camped there while others followed Selous North looking for Mount Darwin. They eventually arrived in what is today Harare and thought it was Mt Darwin, settled there and called it Salisbury. It was only a few years later when Rhodes who was governor of the Cape Colony at the time thought about getting the Eastern Highlands from the Portuguese loose Prazero system as a route to the sea with ideas about boats through Pungwe River to the sea. He sent an American settler called Forbes to Chief Mutasa's kraal to sign a treaty and the drunkard chief was happy to do so because he wanted alcohol. The Portuguese prazero came weeks later looking for his tribute when he realised what chief Mutasa had done and punished him. The chief denied ever signing the Forbes treaty. So Jameson and crew finally went to Gaza in Mozambique to negotiate the acquisition of Manicaland with the Shangaan King who many white people feared and even the Portuguese stayed away from. When they finally won the treaty, they arrested the Portuguese Prazero and the first settlers coming out of the Cape Colony like the Fairbridges and Coaurthaulds settled in Mutare for the first time.

I am surprised by the lack of commerce and business in the city centre. Did you drive through it on a Sunday morning?

Mutare is 136km2 with a population estimate of 100 000, gweru is larger said to be 206Km2 with a smaller population masvingo is smaller than gweru and mutare. Harare is bigger than bulawayo now since the new addition of mt Hampden and harare west surbubs from 960km2 to what is being estimated to become 1400km2 . Then bulawayo is 1200km2.

Most cities in Southern African countries are always empty.
@AFRICA_THE_NOW_AND_THE_FUTURE
Zimbabwe is sparsely populated a country around same size as UK but with only 16 million population.
@AFRICA_THE_NOW_AND_THE_FUTURE
This is the third largest city in Zimbabwe if not the fourth as Gweru is also considered the third largest city in Zimbabwe after Harare and Bulawayo

@@AFRICA_THE_NOW_AND_THE_FUTURE Most of Southern Africa is sparsely populated. When you guys come to East Africa or travel to West Africa, you're always shocked at how crowded their cities and towns are.

People are in other countries trying to survive.
@AFRICA_THE_NOW_AND_THE_FUTURE
@@AllanKamaliki look at the size of Botswana and Namibia...they each have less than 3 million people population. They are bigger than most countries in Africa and rest of the world.
