I have seen many Scott Adkins interviews about Van Dam, but this one, he broke it down perfectly, by saying talking about the 2 different styles of movies. "Road House" style or "Hong Kong" style. Road House style is my favorite style, because that is what Van Dam did for his career and it was amazing!

@@Paul-sl9zm He doesn't have the look, the charisma, the voice, the name, the skill. Nobody in Hollywood has it at the present time. It's dead. It's over. Nobody wants that Hong Action fighting that belongs in a circus. Scotts market is the Hong Kong action fans which are far less than the die hard fans of the 80's like Seagal, Stallone, Arnold, Van Damme. The golden generation has gone. Stallone pretty much said the exact same thing in a recent interview a few weeks back. There is nobody now. NOBODY!. Seagals meteoric rise was carefully positioned because not only did he have the voice, look and charisma he also bought a totally new and realistic form of fighting to the screen that absolutely NOBODY had seen before. It was the first time someone who was skinny had come along who didn't do bodybuilding or didn't do any fancy kicking, punching, blocking etc but instead was more dynamic using the persons momentum against him using locks and throws to neutralise the opponent however big the opponent was. That is why the Aikido schools were totally packed all over the world after the release of Above The Law. Scott has none of this. In fact, he's been very lucky to get to where he is. The guy who was talking about him who said he was "unsure" about him is like many, I certainly wouldn't have given him a gig if I was the Hollywood executive. Would i if it was Seagal, Van Damme, Stallone, Arnold, absolutely YES. Scotts films just plunge into the abyss. They are not remembered, they don't stand the test of time, they don't get watched over and over again . He has put so many out that its just total Garbage. Not sure why he would want to do that. I can only think to sell himself out and get a pay day. His films remind me of the ones you buy from the back of a martial arts magazine in the 80s with the dubbed sound or films shown in the late hours to men on channels like "movies4Men" when you got back in from a night out. Just been honest. That's all. Peace.

Scott's screen fighting ability is definitely more dynamic and varied than Van Damme's. And as much as I loved watching Bloodsport and Kickboxer when I was younger, the fight scenes really don't hold up. In fact, during Van Damme's later part of his carrer where his fame was easing down, he showed a lot more variation and realism in his screen fights in lesser known films, especially when he was directed in movies by the late Ringo Lam; the trio of fights he had with the late Stefanos Miltsakakis in Maximum Risk and the prison yard fights in In Hell definitely demonstrated that. Both are very underrated movies.
@fwabble

@@cookedit Van Damme had a very unique and new style bringing a cheeky charm, the accent, looks and physique, and excellent kicking ability, I don't think he is anywhere near as gifted as Scott, but scott should be playing on his OWN strengths like HIS accent and looks scream bond like/upper class characters he has such star quality with the right opportunity. Scott is a legend he has all the tools to be a huge star with maybe the right TV series and role. I always thought Adkins would be the next Van Damme , in terms of doing big budget action films with a big film studio Like Universal or Columbia pictures like Van Damme had the pleasure of doing several films of his with those companies, but even the smaller films Adkins comes out with, they still manage to have great fight scenes and incredible fight choreography, definitely reminiscent of the great Van Damme movies of that era , I grew up watching all of Van Damme's movies and they are some of the most entertaining movies you will ever see . I'm not saying Adkins is ugly but he doesn't have striking features like Van Damme had , even Adkins said it that Van Damme is a really good looking guy he has the looks of a movie star like a Brad Pitt or a Tom Cruise that's another reason why so many women love him , and on top of it he has that macho tough guy bravado that all guys like so like Adkins was saying Van Damme was the total package that's why everybody loved him , he was the perfect action star .More importantly Van Damme has incredible martial arts talent , he is the only guy to have signature kicks , and is the only guy that can do a 360 degree spinning 6 feet in the air spin kick , the guy is absolutely nuts and awesome all at the some time there is nobody like him.

At the time, we had only Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris films in the store which demonstrated martial arts. After seeing Bloodsport, I started taking Karate. Van Damme and Seagal capitalized on a market that wasn't being served. No one else was doing what they were doing and all of my friends couldn't stop talking about their films. It was an exciting time and fun memories

Loving the Adkins series so far, VK! It's commendable that you didn't just praise Scott for the sake of him being on your show. You gave your real opinion, which we're all entitled to. And I think it also gives Scott a unique perspective. He knows his audience very well at this point, but it's always good to hear another perspective. Whether he agrees with it or not or really even cares to take the feedback for any future projects. We have all forgotten that we don't always have to agree with each other, and that's what makes us all individuals. As martial artists, and in life. I loved Ninja and Ninja 2, and I even remember liking Hard Target 2 when it came out. I only saw it once though, so I may have to check that one again lol. I really thought Scott was going to explode after Ninja. I was a massive fan of it and even wanted him to become Batman when the Batman V Superman thing was announced. He could actually fight like Batman in the Arkham games. Which also adds to your point of things sometimes looking like a video game. He was totally spot on about Speakman. I remember when I started digging into his films I felt the exact same way as I made my way deeper into the catalog. All in all, I see his points and yours. Neither of you are wrong, in my opinion. Can't wait for more!! Thanks for helping to keep this genre alive!! Btw, I checked out Accident Man 2 purely because of this series. I've been following his FB fan page for years but we all know how annoying FB has become with actually showing all your content to your followers. I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for him coming on your channel! Loved it!!!!

Man, I really loved that. It really throws you back into that period of your life where everything was so intense. It was interesting to notice how your perspectives mirrored so many martial artists I've spoken with. That whole era in martial arts movies was when I was serving with the military and literally half of our conversations were about fighting, killing and death and the instruments of war and what we're literally the best ways to utilize martial arts and wield weapons to create as much dustruction as possible. We took our commitment to protect the nation very seriously, but it was all very fun and we got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Just being a part of a group like that and the things we did, in an era where genders were celebrated for their expected roles in society, that had developed in humanity over thousands of years, were fantastic experiences. I think martial artists and other kinds of athletes experience a very similar connection to their peers and the world around them. Man, have things changed. 100% grateful that you guys seem unaffected by these prevailing new changes and are marching forward with hardly care about the opinions of others as you put this work out to the consuming public - THANK YOU! 💪 👊 🤙

Another great interview with Scott Adkins, I like how he states that he will give the fans what they want, no matter what type of movie he is in. That is sheer dedication and he pays nice tribute to Van Damme. Van Damme did back in the day in 1993 I think it was try and to a romantic action movie with Nowhere to Run, where he tried something different, but still kept some of his Spin kick action etc... I have always been impressed with how he developed the helicopter kick. JCVD has in my opinion the best body I have ever seen on a man and a great unique fighting style. Especially when he is playing both lead characters be it twins (Double Impact) or the Villian and his good guy Clone (Replicant). Double Team with Dennis Rodman is definitely one of his underrated movies. I see you left this interview on another cliffhanger ☺️🤣🤣

Wow, I have never Scott being so candid about films and other martial artists. Very refreshing viewpoint and and also very informative. I was surprised not to hear anything about Chow Yun-fat!, but perhaps only just a film martial artist, but still an HK legend. Still though one your best interviews I think 👍 Definitely watch Flashpoint 😊

I loved Scot Atkins Ninja movies! The first one where he is being trained to be a Ninja, was very good. I believe a lot of people, like origin stories like these. That was what made Van Dam, in Blood Sport, very fun and appealing as well as Kick Boxer. Another action star I absolutely loved was Tom Berrenger in the Sniper Movies and Billy Zane as the new recruit. Those two were great together. I liked the first American Ninja, and then the 2nd one took out all the weapons just like the 2nd Ninja Turtles movie did. It just ruins the movie. That was the formula that worked and made you want to see the next one. I think it maybe is just that kids liked it and someone complained about it causing kids to be violent. Its harder to find a good martial arts movie now a days, because of all the DC and Marvel movies taking over the market.

The problem is that he is a white male and, as a person in Hollywood told me, Hollywood is now looking only for minorities and female action stars to combat racism and sexism. so they try to reject someone when he is a white male.

I watched all Van Damme movies from the 80s and 90s and a lotof Adkins movies. I got to say that what I get to see from Adkins looks more precise than what Van Damme does. Of course that‘s only what we get to see compared to that what ends on the cutting room floor, but I think it shows a higher dedication to perfection on Adkins part. It seems he does scenes until they look as perfect as possible whereas in Van Dammes movies scenes are used where you can see he didn‘t hit the intended target by an inch or two or hit far too hard. He could have repeated the scene until it looked perfect, but he probably didn‘t, otherwise why would they use a worse scene in the final movie? But it‘s great that Van Damme got over taking himself so very serious like he did in the 80s and early 90s and can take and even make jokes about him. That‘s some personal development!
