I think the code base probably so jank because this game was meant to be a stop gap between next big r6 title. The code base probably filled with voodoo code made by employees that left years ago.
They prob also hire a lot of interns or temps to help w certain things so that prob doesn't help much either. But I also feel like w the way companies are a lot of them prob do this so it's prob more rare for a game to exist for a couple years withOUT spaghetti coding
I just have to say it, thank you Gregor for actually talking about siege without saying "oh yeah, game dead, fix it." I appreciate that you actually go into detail, really talking about how ubisoft can fix their game, I understand that you might want to do other content than siege, and I wish you were able to without restarting, but I will say, I appreciate what your doing here, I'll be watching every yap sesh you make, peace and love.
just for your information, Gregor is currently transitioning (thats why her voice has gone up in pitch). i have been following her for years now and her content and production of her vids have gone up, so im happy to see she is working towards the person she wants to be AND she is still kicking it strong with her passion for siege... ...which is a fucking shame to see the state the game is currently in. they truly nerfed the fun out of it. what, am i supposed to be stuck in my pc all day long learning how to deal with the horrible recoil? its a freaking game, i dont know who is pulling the strings of the game balancing but he or them clearly do not play the game
I actually am one of those that enjoys the yap sesh. I love how you can articulate and talk your points across and the vibe of the yap sesh is very chill. I'll consume such contents more than the actual siege stuff.

Ongoing PvE missions Core MP is free Campaign is $40-60 depending on size and scale If we continue with Battle Passes keep it at $10, but make them indefinitely unlockable and playable. For the mini Missions each season that controls around the new IP(s) it would be included in the premium plus battle pass bundle. So $20 or maybe this is the way to sell the R6 membership.

you basically want to redo siege that makes it siege😂, everything is fine except the anti cheat really, they fix the anti cheat and get rid of cheaters then the game will be really fun to play, if you want something with realism go play ready or not

I play CS2 a lot, and cheaters didn't really show up for me in Premier until around 19k elo, so I stopped playing it. The old 5v5 "Competitive" queue seems mostly cheater free, haven't seen one in a long time, and you get to pick your map pool. I also have played Valorant on and off since its beta, have around 1k hours, and I have only seen 2 cheaters total in 4 years. I want to give Siege another try, but most of my friends stopped caring and without some kind of "Siege 2" style update, idk why I would either. Doesn't feel like the time investment would be worth it at this point.
ow2 wasn’t well received because they stripped features the playerbase liked, even now, the current engine can’t handle 6v6 like the old one could. They are going to probably take months to come up with an engine to actually handle the 6v6 mode that atp probably half of the playerbase wants back if not more. Its like if siege came out with siege 2.0 already and the engine couldn’t handle acogs anymore when switching from 1.5s back to acogs.

I am shocked they haven’t done it already. This game was already on an old engine when it was made, and it’s been live for over a decade. A new gen would be so awesome to see
I’m really sad your Val content didn’t pop off, I watched most of it back then but I started actually playing the game recently since it came to console. I was looking forward to a Deadlock how to lmao. But that’s how the cookie crumbles, chase that bag G, never forget to be yourself. That’s what I watch the content for at least.
ubi gotta give us a singleplayer mode, these characters got some huge personalities and detailed backgrounds, its a shame they only focus on multiplayer. Make it a Ready or not type game, or give em a Battlefield-like campaign, but not just to introduce the characters but also to give some attachment to them, people only play the meta characters rn ( less nerfed ones ), give people a reason to stick to a character and you'll see people maining Sens and managing to make him a top tier character on their hands.
Honestly the animations are a big thing, so many animations are boring and lackluster and slow that it makes me feel like the animators and the operators don't know what they're doing. That being said I do think there's some bangers, specifically Deimos's .44, with how cleanly he operates it you can tell he's a professional. This and Buck's C8 reload because I like how he runs the charging handle on the empty / the mag flick.

I've always liked your content G. I've been watching you for ages, and that's even after I quit playing R6. I don't like the game, I don't like playing the game, it just doesn't feel fun to me anymore. However your content has always been nice to listen to and watch.
I've been taking a break from Siege because New Blood is disappointing, but I enjoy the Siege yap seshes. You're not afraid to speak your mind, but you also at least try to come up with some solution. It’s pretty rare to hear from someone so passionate and honest nowadays.
All Siege 2 would need to be successful is a new anticheat but in order to do that, yes, need a new code base. That or hear me out here, maybe pay their actual workers in the programming trenches enough to live on, so that way they stop letting hackers have a backdoor into their programming. Ubi still doesn't know that they have insiders at battle-eye getting paid to leak scripts and code before update goes live. Its why cheaters can get into the swing of things in less than a week after every update.

I don't think they even SHOULD port every skin and asset from the current siege. If they made a siege 2, and to appease all current and past players gave every account who had skins 2 hundred thousand in game currency, or whatever the equivalent is to like $200 (i know lots of people have paid way more), and said that "we're starting from 0 for skins", i think there would be less friction than adding every single tournament skin and in game purchase. Just make it known that the funds you paid to support the game were directly used to upgrade the game and I hope that the majority of players would accept it. Rather than the back breaking effort it would take to recreate every skin and elite and cosmetic, just say "sorry folks, here's a new start and a couple extra dollars, let's keep going!". There absolutely can be legacy skins like icewolf charm, or black ice, and they can even make it an event to port community favorites every update. But honestly most skins are practically bloat ware, with one extra line different to an older skin or like the mute protocol with a different color. Waste of resources to port all that.
I personally have probably spent $500 or more on skins and elites. I would genuinely be upset to lose all of it. But I'd accept that if it meant siege was actually fun to play again, and it wasn't unfairly taken from just me. Also if they can track and compensate players with currency according to what they've purchased in current r6, I absolutely wouldn't mind a fresh reset.
Bro night maps can absolutely come back they literally just need to add flashlights, night vision modules, and map interactions for lights. They already did it for outbreak, and they were able to toggle tactical devices, which i still don't understand why they haven't added for lasers. Id prefer if nods weren't op specific but it could be like rook armor, or a unique ability, but it ABSOLUTELY can be done, and it would add a dimension to the game I'm sure would be welcome!

I think the overloaded plane analogy you made is spot on. They’ve known the cheater issue has been getting significantly worse for years now and instead of getting a head start on the new-engined version of the game like OW2 OR CS2, they’ve added new content to the old engine. They’ve just been creating more work for themselves later for years now. Hopefully I’m completely wrong and they HAVE been working on an updated version of the game. Only time will tell. To add on to what you said about falsely accusing games of being dead, it does far more damage than people realise. I’ve played quite a bit of Titanfall two and despite popular opinion what really killed the game was not the date of release or the abundant cheaters but the amount of content that used Titanfall dying as Clickbait for views. And I think siege is running into a similar dilemma though far less drastic. in the case of Titanfall well the less opportune release date and the lack of support and the year worth of hackers took its toll what killed the game to the state that it’s in now is that even well after the cheating issue was resolved if you search Titanfall into RU-vid you instantly get how it’s beyond recovery. Especially the hackers weren’t that much of an issue and even in their prime, it wasn’t hard to find, public games to enjoy the game. But as new spread of the game being unplayable, the average player turned away from this it you couldn’t find enough people to make even a custom game. Well the cheaters in siege are abundant and impressive. This game is not dead. There are many people who want to be better and I have faith in the death that they are working to make it so, but more than anything the community screaming wolf tends to do far more damage to games and hackers.

Hey G, there are some pros and cons to a new engine. They wouldnt have to remake all the assets (if they made it correctly in the first place) they could reimport the assets into a new engine, which would take time. but not as long as you expect for a proffessional team. depending on the engine that was used the game could feel quite different. Strictly speaking a new engine is not a bad thing but it would take alot of time. its likely they are testing a new engine and in a more serious phase of it, so they likely are seriously considering it, but knowing ubisoft they may not go through with it.
Frustrating how we’ve just done a complete full circle, game was released as a serious swat tac shooter and continued that way for a long time then it slowly transitioned into a slightly more complex twitch shooter (lighting changes, debris, dust, destruction, explosions, ECT.) . Now they’ve realised that it sucked and there’s a reason the original version of siege is so beloved in the first place and that it was just better and now we’re just slowly moving back towards the original vision🤣
I think it could be pretty interesting to mess with things like slings or displaying certain secondary gadgets in the operator mode (also clear p90 mag?). But I’m also curious, has Ubisoft directly admitted that the cheater problem is a symptom of the code base? Honestly I hope they’re working on a second game or a solution, otherwise the content flow doesn’t add up. They need to make it free to play after the cheater issue blows over (if it does)
The worst animation oversight imo is the fact that they changed the melee animation shortly after adding zero, so instead of swiping his karambit like at his launch, he stabs with the middle of the blade
I just don't think its possible to bring in the dad shooter players and keeping the "pros" and very very hardcore players happy. They both want two completely different games where I don't see any middle ground being seen.
Is there anywhere good to get involved with 10 mans tho? I switched to PC after being on consoles my whole life a few months ago and it has been a struggle meeting people who aren't blatantly things that end in "phobic" or "ist" if you catch my drift lol.
when overwatch started getting less content, overwatch 2 was starting development. leaving less people to work on ow1 and less time for support on the first game. maybe I'm just being hopeful here and there is no siege two but you never know.

i feel that nothing of that will happen sadly. i cant see ubisoft putting more money into siege. they prob just give minimal budget just for that we go up too 100 operators and to put the game in end life cycle.
ngl its cool they want to get to 100 but imo the game does not need new ops, in fact the push for more and more operators is part of why the game's in the mess it is in some respects. You could retire a quarter of the cast on either side and the game would be in a better shape to start being fixed. Remaining characters could get far more attention for balancing, quality of life, bug fixes etc Imagine siege was in counter strike's position where they could add a new gun every few years and people were still happy to keep playing because of all the work put into whats there rather than an endless push for "new op? wheres the new op and new content and new modes, guys we really need to get back to two new ops and a new map every three months! Also this game's a buggy mess, fix it and also put the chimera event back in the game, I dont understand why you guys cant just drop the gamemode back in sight unseen"
The game isn't over a hundre gigs tho? My install is 57Gb, Ubi has been on top of the game's file size for a few years, idk what trickery they have to allow a 9 year old game with as much assets as Siege to be this lightweight but they need to spread that tech around, games are getting too large.
I think that if they were to implement night maps in a siege 2, they would probably do a Bodycam thing where the longer the game lasts the darker the outside gets, since the game does still have an element of realism in it.
Counter Strike 2 worked well. As for overwatch 2, loot boxes and a battlepass, siege is arguably worse in life service. I mean, siege has an $80 a year subscription for basically $25 worth of bundles. But siege literally recolored skins that we already own, then we have to buy them all again just to get a gun skin for buying all of the reused skins for $200. Siege cannot possibly get worse with monetization unless they start selling guns that are more powerful, or locking operators behind R6 credits exclusively that are overpowered. Or adding Star Wars Battlefront 2 star cards with 200% health and 200% damage.
