Are you scared of what your mucus plug looks like? Don’t be! Mucus plugs may can take on many different colors, because of the “bloody show”. Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy & Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Science Expert, have asked women at Nathalie’s clinic to send them pictures of what their mucus plug looked like. So, in this video, they share with you different kinds of mucus plug pictures, in order to help you understand what the mucus plug can look like, the colors that a mucus plug can take on, what their consistency looks and feels like and what size to expect.
Please note that even very bloody looking mucus plugs can be totally normal because it may simply be a sign that you had your “bloody show”. This basically means that your cervix has started to thin out and dilate because when that happens, small blood vessels are being burst which can cause a bit of bleeding. Nevertheless, it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor when you lose your mucus plug, to keep them in the loop, particularly, when your mucus plug comes off with LOTS of blood.
Finally, they also explain what you should do when you lose your mucus plug and also, if you need to make any adjustments for your baby, given that your uterus is no longer protected from bacteria.

@CareAboutLittleOnes 11 месяцев назад
Hi there 😘, if you are only 28 weeks pregnant so far, then we strongly recommend that you talk with your doctor about this! It does not necessarily mean that something is not right because your body keeps producing mucus all the time. However, in rare cases, it COULD be a sign of preterm labor when the mucus plug comes off too early... So, please talk with your doctor or midwife about it - just to be on the safe side! Thank you! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there! 😊 We are very happy if we can help!! 😊 So, the problem with EDDs which are based on ultrasounds which are done later in a pregnancy is that these EDDs are normally not accurate. The most accurate EDD is produced by an ultrasound which is done some times before week 12. The reason is that at some point in a pregnancy onwards, every baby develops at a different rate. Therefore, it is very difficult to compare your baby with other babies at late stages of your pregnancy. We talk more about this in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2mLqwcnqvdI.html Also, please note that only 2% of babies are born on the EDD. Therefore, please don't worry if you don't feel any contractions yet... Finally, the fact that your baby has a lower weight than expected at this stage of your pregnancy, is another issue. However, it's up to your doctor to advise you on what is the best course of action in that case. Did they make a recommendation how to handle this situation? We hope this helps! We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby! ❤️

Ineed your help guys... I have a 3 ultrasound According to My first ultrasound my edd is May 5 Then my second ultrasound is May 12 And my third ultrasound is May 27 I'm wondering if which edd should I follow
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there 😊, we know the problem!! Every week, we meet women who were told 3 or 4 different EDDs. And no one really knows which one is the correct one. We really should do a video on the accuracy of EDDs!! So, unless you know the first day of your last period (and your cycle), there is only one way to come up with a guess on what your EDD is. And that's the very first ultrasound. In our experience, the first ultrasound produces the most accurate EDD. We know that this seems counterintuitive, because, one would think that the further you progress in your pregnancy, the easier it gets to estimate your due date. But the problem in later stages of a pregnancy is that (obviously) not all babies grow equally. Because of that, it is really difficult to come up with a reliable EDD at later stages. This is also what scientific studies have found, by the way. So, in OUR experience, the first EDD is NORMALLY the most accurate one. However, it's really difficult to say because it's just so different for every woman... We hope this helps! And please don't be mad at us, if the 5th May DOES NOT turn out to be your EDD... 😬😬 It's really difficult to say.... All the best for you and your baby!! ❤️❤️

I am in 37 weeks 6 days pregnant today I lost my mucus plug (Clear jelly like discharge)and having hip pain too, should I visit doctor? Is it sign of labor?
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there! 😊 Losing the mucus plug is certainly a sign that your body is preparing for labor. However, it's not necessarily a sign that you are IN labor. It's the contractions that tell you that! The same applies to hip pain! Hip pain can be caused by many different things during a pregnancy but it's not necessarily a sign of labor. That said, of course, if the pain becomes overwhelming you should always call your doctor! Calling your doctor is always the best you can do if you are unsure about if something is normal or not! All the best for you and your baby! ❤️

Hi there 😘, mucus plugs do come off that early sometimes... So that is basically not uncommon. It is more the cramps that may be a reason to worry at this stage, when they appear together with the discharge... So, we would let your midwife know, just to be on the safe side. Again, most probably everything is okay. But this information could be relevant to your midwife given your overall pregnancy case... We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤

@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 2 года назад
Hi there Joy 😊, the things that you describe can be totally normal at this stage of a pregnancy. Everything aches, you are going to see discharge. Your baby is probably engaged and very deep in your pelvis, pressing on ligaments and nerves which can cause all kinds of sensations. Many women also suffer from pelvic girdle pain at this stage, which means that it is very painful for them to walk, get dressed, get out of a car, turn around in bed etc. But eventually, you are going to notice that you feel consistent pain which comes back regularly and which does not improve, no matter what you do (not even with a warm bath of 20min). When that's the case, look out for a change in that pattern. If the pain is coming back in regular intervals, and if those intervals are becoming smaller and smaller, then it is likely that you are in labor. That said, if you are having any doubts about the symptoms that you are feeling, please always get in touch with your doctor! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby! ❤️

Is it possible to have mucus plug in 23 weeks of pregnancy?
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes Месяц назад
Hi there 😊, yes, it can happen. This is normally not a reason to worry because the body produces mucus all the time. So it can "rebuild" the mucus plug. Still, we do recommend that you report this to your OB! It could be highly relevant given your pregnancy case! Thank you! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes Год назад
Hi there 😘, it's very difficult for us to tell you what it is you observed. However, please note that the mucus plug and the bloody show often come together. OR the bloody show may have happened before the mucus plug came off. If that's the case, the brown discharge may simply be old blood that stayed in your body for longer and is now coming off with the mucus plug. Again, this is all just speculation. If you are unsure or worried, we encourage you to talk with your doctor about it! We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😊, normally they will only admit you to the hospital, when you have regular contractions. What you want to see is that your contractions come in regular intervals that are 4-5 minutes apart. Of course, you can always talk to your midwife and check what their hospital policy is. But normally, they only admit you when you have regular contractions... But we would be surprised if you did not go into labor anytime soon! 😊 We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes

Hi there Adila 😊, it all depends on how bloody it was. It is not uncommon for the mucus plug to be blood-tinged. In fact, in the majority of all cases, a bloody mucus plug is not a problem because it could just mean that you also had what is called "a bloody show". However, in very very rare cases, it could also be a sign of vaginal bleeding. So, if you have any doubts about it, we encourage you to talk with your midwife or doctor about it. It's always the safest option! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there! Please don't be worried! It's very common that a woman needs to go to the toilet very often during the final days before labor starts (in fact, most women suffer from diarrhea during the days before labor starts). Therefore, it CAN be a good sign that you experience these things! That said, there are ways how a woman can support the process of going into labor: 1. Nipple stimulation (just keep in mind that it may not be done with a few minutes per day only) 2. Reflexology (same as nipple stimulation - it could be required to do this more often throughout the day or to extend the duration of each session) 3. Acupuncture (this can work particularly well if your stress levels are really high; and please note: it has to be acupuncture; acupressure would most probably not help in your case) 4. @CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes Год назад
Hi there 😊, when you experience pain, we recommend that you talk with your doctor about it (just to be on the safe side). However, generally speaking, it is often baby's position that triggers such pains. For example: it could be that baby is engaged in the pelvis (more on the signs that baby has engaged in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9IXI5sG-d7w.html). As for the discharge: if it was indeed jelly-like, then it could have been the mucus plug. It would be a clear substance in that case. White discharge (liquid) on the other hand is not the mucus plug. This sounds more like general discharge... We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

I am 32 weeks and 4 days and a first time mom , a piece of yellow mucus came out yesterday at my ultrasound and today a white chunk about the size of a nickel or maybe even a quarter size I spoke with the doctor they said as long as no blood I should be okay my fear is that my baby will come way earlier than 37 weeks - they also said it can come out gradually my question is how do I know when it’s all out and if I’m about to start the process of labor I’m super scared !
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 4 месяца назад
Hi there 😊, we can assure you that we have come across several women who lost their mucus plug quite early in their pregnancy - but did not go into labor before it was their time... The body keeps producing mucus all the time. However, it is still good that you pay attention to what is going on in your body! The loss of the mucus plug CAN be a sign of preterm labor. But normally, that's only the case if it also comes with other signs of preterm labor. For example, abdominal pain, severe back ache, dilation etc. There is a video on our channel about the signs of preterm labor (just use the search function on our channel). So, if you only see that your mucus plug comes out gradually, there is normally not a reason to worry! It's more about checking if there are also other signs that come together with the loss of the mucus plug... As always: if you see any further signs (or if pieces of the mucus plug are bloody), or if you are still afraid that you could go into labor because of things that you feel/see, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your OB or midwife - thank you! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

With my first, I lost my mucus plug in one big chunk during first stage of labor approx. 3-4 cm dialeted, and had my baby that night I was 41+5! I am 37 weeks pregnant now with my second and have been wiping small amounts of mucus plugs for a week now. It started after a acupuncture treatment 😊 I have been contracting over 2 weeks and 2 cm dialeted with soft cervix. I like how things move smoother with second time around, my body taking time to prepare itself. First time around I was zero cm, zero effaced for until the last moment of labor starting with zero prep contractions.

@CareAboutLittleOnes 9 месяцев назад
Hi there 😊, first of al, thanks a lot for your lovely feedback! It is much appreciated! 😊 Regarding your question: It could be several things: first of all, it could still be the mucus plug, however, maybe it just comes off in small pieces, rather than the whole thing. Second, it could be a yeast infection. Third, it could be that it's just dried old blood (the fact that it looks dark brown could be a hint because when blood stays in your body for a longer time, it turns brown when it eventually comes out). Fourth, it could just be a combination of cells, old blood and other body-related stuff. So, unfortunately, we can only speculate. But if you want to know it for sure, it is never wrong to give your midwife a ring. Don't feel embarrassed to do that! It's their job to help you! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and baby number 7!!!! (KUDOS TO YOU!!) ❤️

Hi there Sadia! 😊 Normally, there is absolutely no need to worry when you lose your mucus plug. It's a normal process that happens as part of your body's preparation for labor. Also, as long as the color is not green and as long as it is not very bloody, there is normally no reason to worry. @CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there! 😊 The mucus plug normally looks like a jelly-like thing, not really white, more like transparent, unless it is either reddish or brownish because of blood. However, it could be that your mucus plug has come off together with other (white) vaginal discharge. In that case, you have to check the consistency of the discharge. If the consistency is jelly-like, then it is likely that it is at least part of your mucus plug. But as always, if you are not sure, check with your provider (f.e. by sending them a picture)... @CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there! 😊 That's GREAT to hear that you found the information that you needed on our channel (makes us very happy!!). Thanks a lot for that feedback!! 😊👍👍❤️ Regarding your questions: Breech baby: We recorded a video on how to turn a breech baby with the help of breech baby turning exercises and moxibustion. You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e-kh6nxGkCk.html Actually, the best time to do this is between week 34 and week 36. However, it did help some of our channel visitors to turn their babies even as late as week 40. So, maybe, you find our video helpful too? 😊 Mucus plug: Mucus plug discharge is one of many so-called "early signs of labor". They do show you that your body is preparing for labor. However, the problem is that we cannot really tell how many days after the mucus plug discharge you are going into labor. Many textbooks tell you that when you have a mucus plug discharge, you are in pre-labor (which is the stage before early labor). However, after all, it does not really matter. The only thing that matters is: when do your (true) contractions start. And that's unfortunately nothing that anyone can tell you... But please don't feel discouraged! At least, you can see that your body is preparing for labor! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

Im currently 43 weeks pregnant. And had a green colored discharge( not too much). How would i differentiate between it being maconium or an infection? Really need advice as you can imagine the pressure from many directions being as overdue as one can get😢
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 4 месяца назад
Hi there ❤️, unfortunately, it is impossible for you to differentiate between it being meconium and an infection without a thorough check-up by a doctor. Look: we don't mean to put any more pressure on you! It's not our wish to lecture you on any decisions you make regarding your pregnancy. Only YOU make the decisions! But we do urge you that you go to the hospital immediately for a checkup - given the green discharge! Please don't wait - go there right now! Thank you! We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there! ❤️ If you lose the mucus plug that early, you should immediately contact your doctor! This COULD be a sign of preterm labor or other complications, particularly, since you are also experiencing menstrual cramps. So don't hesitate! Please call your doctor immediately! Thank you! Thanks for this video, I don't know why my mucus plug is hang in my vaginal. I'm 40 weeks tomorrow. When I touch it is like bubble hanging there. It usually comes out any time I'm pee, and it doesn't fall off. please Should I be worried.
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 2 года назад
Hi there 😊, no, please do not be worried at all! Your mucus plug WILL come off eventually. However, sometimes, this only happens once a woman is in labor. In other cases, it comes off earlier. But it is not a critical issue because your baby is still protected from infections by the amniotic sac. So, again, please don't worry! It will come off when your body is ready for it! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

Today im 38 weeks 1day pregnant..today i see white creamy discharge.is it mucus plug..??One more thing few days ago i saw very small transparent jelly like discharge.what was that..?? Please reply me.
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there Sadia 😊, as we explain in this video, a mucus plug normally looks like a transparent jelly like discharge. So the thing you saw a couple of days ago is more likely to be the mucus plug. A white creamy discharge on the other hand is normally just "normal" vaginal discharge. As always, if you have any doubts or concerns, please consult with your provider! We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there Julie ❤️, it's always very difficult to say what's normal in a pregnancy because every pregnancy is different and we have seen SO many things. 😅 However, in general, if you lose your mucus plug that early and if it is brownish red, then we would absolutely recommend talking to your doctor. Please don't be worried just yet. It's just that in very very rare cases, it could be a sign that you are about to go into preterm labor. Again, please don't be worried. But as always, your baby's safety is our priority number 1. So please, do talk to your doctor or midwife! We wish you all the best for you and your baby! ❤️

I am 31 weeks pregnant and I think I lost my mucus plug at (30 weeks) is it safe to still have sex?
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there Randy! 😊 Yes, it is! 😊 Even though you lost your mucus plug, your cervix will continue producing mucus to protect from infections. But more importantly, your baby is also protected from infections by the amniotic sac. The only event in pregnancy after which you should no longer have sex, is when your water breaks... All the best for you and your baby!! ❤️❤️

i am 38.6 weeks today, saw lots of dark yellow discharge and thought it was my mucus plug. Asked my midwife and she said it can't be a mucus plug unless it has blood in it.. who do i believe?? some videos say it can be yellowish as mine, midwife says it can't.. I'm so lost 😞
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 2 года назад
Hi there 😊, instead of looking at the color, we would actually look at the consistency of the discharge that you observed. Was it jelly like? If so, it is likely that it was the mucus plug. Also, please note that the mucus plug does not necessarily need to have blood in it. Some women just discharge a clear (transparent) mucus plug, others have a yellow mucus plug. The color itself does not necessarily tell you if it is the mucus plug. So again, go for the consistency! It is a more reliably indicator than the color! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

What comes out first? Bloody show, mucus plug or amniotic fluid? Or can they come out in any sequence?
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 6 месяцев назад
Hi there 😊, normally, we expect the mucus plug coming first, then the bloody show. And the amniotic fluid is only supposed to leak once the water has broken (which should not happen too soon)... We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes Год назад
Hi there 😘, please understand that these are questions that we cannot answer. First of all, we cannot tell you if you are dilated, only your doctor can do after a cervical exam. Also, unfortunately, it is not possible to say if you are close to labor or not. Some women experience the symptoms that you describe and don't go into labor for another week or two (or longer). Other women experience those symptoms and go into labor the next day. So, it really depends on your body.... We are sorry that we cannot be a better help here! 😘 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

What is losing your mucus plug happens before the third trimester or even in the second trimester? Can it grow back again?
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 3 года назад
Hi there Veronica 😊, yes, it can! 😊 Your body is constantly producing mucus during pregnancy, which is why the mucus plug can regenerate. That said, we always recommend talking with your doctor, if you lose the mucus plug before week 37! We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby! ❤️

Hey!! So the mucus plug looks like blood clot? I had it just an hour ago. I am anxious
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes 4 месяца назад
Hi there 😘, the mucus plug is more like a sticky gel-like transparent substance. However, it can look blood-tinged, for example, when you also had a "bloody show". Please note: blood-tinged is normally okay. But if you think you are bleeding, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with your OB straight away! In general, if you are not sure if what you observe is normal or not - it is always better to make one phone call more than necessary - Thank you! We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😊, it is totally normal to lose the mucus plug at 38 weeks. And if there is no blood, there is normally absolutely no reason to worry. That said, we still always recommend letting your midwife know because it could be somehow relevant to them given your particular pregnancy case. But most of the times, they will tell you everything is fine... We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there Dellanira 😊, at that stage of a pregnancy, women can experience all kinds of "strange" things. So, it is difficult to say what's normal and what not at that stage. Therefore, we like to encourage you to talk with your doctor! Unless the whole mucus plug has come off, this should not be a problem because the body keeps producing mucus. But it's always better to be on the safe side by talking with a doctor.... We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️
