Ooh, I'm going right now and paint the traditional schwastika that existed in several cultures for centuries on all my... what's that? Doesn't matter? You say people will just read it, formally, as something they are more familiar with anyway? Even though it is the reverse direction? Dang it!
@manleycreative7115 The only similarity between a Maltese cross and an iron cross is that they're both crosses. The difference between historical and religious symbol swastika (sunwheel) and the WW2 one is the angle, sometimes direction. Not really comparable.
@@StigPriceNo shit 😂. People act like it's so expensive. Without stopping to think. I have a friend I was hanging out with one day, and he just bought some green. And while we were sitting there smoking he was like how can you afford to play Warhammer, it's to expensive. I looked over at him and said, bro u just dropped $125 on Maryjane that will last you a week.10 more dollars and you could have bought a beginner army with a Combat Patrol box, that will last you for years to come. He proceeded to look at me like his brain just exploded. People don't stop to think what they already waste their money on.
@@NedRigNerd as a smoker who goes through an ounce a month. I know if I quit smoking, and spent the money on Warhammer instead. I would end up with 3k points of every army after 2 years.
1:02:42 Ork player here. Can confirm. Got my son into 40k by telling him Ork lore stories while driving around town. I was a fantasy Orc player and rage-quit when AOS came out. Telling my son about the Ork lore of 40K got me back in touch with my inner Green and I put my first model together with him last year after an eight year hiatus. For Da Revolution!
You probably already know this but StarCraft was originally designed as a Warhammer game but the liscencing fell through and so blizzard turned the tyranids into the zerg
The only things I'd add, in my experience. Imperial guard players tend to be ex-army, for obvious reasons, and ultramarine players tend to be American. I think it's because they like good-guy stories and/or happy endings, whereas we Brits like our stories to be more morally grey. I could be wrong but that's what I've noticed.
North forgot the Leagues, that goes in the bloody book! Got me though, I'm a dad and I also play Orks and don't really sweat about whether I win or lose.
@@averagecayde6enjoyer520 I know, it's such a shame as well as they're the coolest looking model in the game imo. I still play one just for that reason.
Leagues of Votann: Their player base only listens to "Diggy diggy hole" by Wind Rose. On a loop. All day. They tend to live with around 6 other men of diminutive height and sub to a pale-skinned female - it's their kink. Big fans of Warwick Davies. Wear their shoes on their knees and shuffle about the place.
I started with and now collect Admech and I am an electrical and telecommunications Engineer for Renewable Energy Power Plants. My job entails SCADA and IT, which essentially feels like praying to the Machine God for it to work at times. 😅 I play Orks. At 1.86cm I weigh 100kg as a recreational bodybuilder. The absolute ludicrousy of their Lore and models and the give NO FUCK playstyle is too damn fun. I am a simple man, the bigger and crazier the Ork, the better. It's a lot like the gym. Da biggest lad is da b0ss. I just started GSC. I started liking them because they remind me of the cults in Dead Space. The more I learned of the actual lore, the more I like them. Essentially, in their eye they truly are the good guys. The underdog. Bringint about heaven on earth, fighting the evil fascsit regime. But actually, they are extremely evil 😂
Funfact about the blood angels so i play in Liverpool our warhammer store is in Liverpool central station we can't have ultramarines on display because they got complaints and broken windows, we can't display blood angles for the same reasons. So we now display salamanders.
I got into necrons because I started my 40k journey with the infinite and the divine. That was January I think. Now I have an 1000 point painted necrom army with more to paint as well as a trazyn and orikan. Although I regret building the necrons ghost ark. It was a nightmare.
Suuuuuuuuch a good episode north I really like these long format videos , it really gives you time to warm up and really start riffing, you had so many golden funny moments in this and im only at imperial knights 😂the dark elder bit had me keeled over
Why necrons players don't take it super seriously: they have the most bonkers technology, read infinite and the devine, they are the army where you can create armour about of crystallised space-time. Have fun
I'd like to think that at least 65% of Imperial Guard players also listen to the band Sabaton. I'm one of them. I just finished my Commissar a few days ago and "The First Soldier" is a wonderful song.
As tyranid player for 20+ years now, it's definitely also the fact that I'm an entomology/zoology nerd as well. I looooove the taxonomic feel of the old codexes. And to top it off, I'm also a huge Lovecraft fan, so the gribblies!!!!
Thousand Sons player here. I don't hate my trim, I bathe in it. I love playing the game with guile and trickery, luring my opponents to exactly where I want them so I can pick them apart in a nice sweep.
Black Templar players: 'Hans, are we the baddies?' Raven Guard players: 'Now take your weird purse and get the hell out of my vinyl shop!' Imperial Knights players: 'You mean there used to be big ass battle mechs but you couldn't play them in 40K? What's that, GW repurposed those as smaller mechs for use in 40K?' Ork players: 'Get that finger out of you ear. You don't know where that finger's been!' Salamander players: 'I like turtles'. Imperial Fists players: 'I like yellow turtles'. Drukari players: 'Cocaine's a helluva drug'.
As a Salamanders main(have 4 2k points armies of them) I do like turtles, but I prefer fires and hammers. Then again I'm a carpenter who also does smithing...
i play tyranids to give opponents epic last stands and hero moments and star ship trooper games and to let my friends into the game playing against my guard
Honestly I don’t get the ultra hate. I am an ulra player and I really like the Roman stuff and wish they would do more with it. I am annoyed we I’m not allowed to have a personality because all box has to match.
I have purple, green, and gold Decepticon Necrons. Decepticrons. My Chariot, for example, is black, and has purple/pink panel lines based on The Nemesis from the 'For Cybertron' transformers franchise.
And then there's me, yearning to go back to 3rd-4th edition Necrons, taking ages to paint a single C'tan-damned model, and turbo anti-DEI (I take issues with the way it is handled/weaponised).
custodies- you like vanilla ice cream with the vanilla flavour removed, you are so bland and uninteresting sisters- you like religious nutters space marines-you like being the poster boy, you are probably narcissistic admech- you like body horror orks-you are the comic relief eldar - probably gay (nothing wrong with that tbf) dark eldar-sado masochist imperial guard- you dnt like 40k, you like war re-enactment games csm-spikey poster boy nids- you like bugs/ alien gsc-you like being a unique snowflake daemons- you like demons (pretty self explanatory) votaan- you like dwarves knight/chaos knights- please leave the hobby, this faction should not exist in this game tau- dnt even get me started crons-you like being unfun to play against
Back when I played Epic (early to mid 90's), I specifically picked Ultramarines because they weren't special. They were soldiers who adhered to the Codex, rather than having to be "special" on top of being superhuman. Hated factions like Space Wolves...Not only Space Marines, but Space Vikings too! Wankers. To be fair though, there wasn't the massive over exposure back then.
I have collected a couple of the Drukari pirate ships just because I like the look of the imaginative spikey space pirate designs. Researching their lore definitely weirded me out quite a bit though lol. Now I especially don't intend to be a Drukhari player lmfao. I plan on modifying my White Scars army paint jobs to reflect more of the space biker aesthetic with stylized lightning and flame decals.
First of all, as a Pantstealer Heretic myself, that was a low blow there with that Necromunda comment 🤣 Second, us GSC players also play the faction because we have a friend who plays Nids and we dream of an epic, narrative wargame session of an actual Ascension Day, but none of our other friends want to play ANY kind of game that involves slogging through two horde armies for like 10+ hours. Also we bought the army because we thought we could be super sneaky with Cult Ambush tactics only to find we a) suck at strategizing with that and b) got horribly nerfed by GW, as expected.
I like Emperor's Children because I like Daemonette's? I don't think I'm arrogant, I try not to be at least. But I primarily play PC games and read lore as I lack the art skills and eye coordination to paint models.
I feel a little slighted as a Deathwatch player... ;) I play them because, as a former Marine, they are the most realistic take on what Space Marines in 40k would be like compared to their 30k ancestors. Given the loss of so many Astartes to the Heresy and ongoing attrition over the millennia, it only makes sense to put all the Space Marines together and then deploy them tactically rather than strategically. I know GW maintains all the different Chapters for the lore and for players to be able to create a spot for their personal armies in that lore, but the Deathwatch is how you would realistically muster and deploy your Astartes. Keep the traditions and training of the different Legions, but blend them all together into a cohesive force that can be deployed consistently with a mix of Legion strengths and minimization of their individual weaknesses. Maintaining the Chapter structure is a detriment to the Imperium.
"a lot of dark eldar players are poets": _clears throat_ There was a dark eldar with a knife Who delighted in extending his life That he did it with blood His kitchen aflood Got him in shit with his wife! Ps: I'm a 49yo dad, who has played since 1e. Yes, i play Aeldari and do have a liking for the aethetics of the laydeez. Not a minmaxer by any means though, very fluffy force.
As far as the black templars go, what many don’t realize is that the “good” ones and the “bad” ones are just two sides of the same coin. It’s like the difference between the manchild who throws his models when he loses vs the relatively normal 40k guys who are just quietly disappointed. They’re the same guy doing the same things, for the same reasons. It’s just that one knows how to be chill and normal and one doesn’t. This does NOT make the good black Templar players you know bad, but I bet you money that way more of them than you’d think were quietly disappointed when they saw that black black Templar. AND THATS OK
Not too familiar with Black Templars but I guess it depends on how they recruit. If they all come from the same geneseed like other Chapters then a black BT is diversity inclusion and equity nonsense. If they're like Deathwatch and they recruit from wider pools then it makes sense.
Gotta admit, you're dead on as to why I picked knights to play. They aren't my favorite lore faction but I can't be arsed to paint or buy that many models and they're the lowest model count faction to field. Cheapest, too, outside grey knights and stodes who I just...can't stand to play. Only wrong bit is I knew I'd get my ass kicked a lot going in. "Can blow up a knight" is like...the baseline for declaring a unit as a decent damage dealer at this point.
This guy just figured out how old i am via my army. Love the heresy haha But painting custodes aint as easy as you just made it out to be... You forgot the gems, the lightning on the blades, the edge highlighting.. theres a reason henry cavil has a massive grey pile of shame. Black templars or dark angels will probably be my next army 😂😂 Cant wait to see what you say about the chaos legions... If you manage to predict which chaos legion I want to play ill he like woah
sisters, guard, deldar, IWs but most importantly a Ultramarine fan and player here, can confirm black reach got me into them, and i understand WHY people hate them but the way i look at it is everyone needs a "hero" to hate, for DC its superman, for Marvel its captain america and for 40k its ultras so i get it... i ALSO get that you are all jealous that we are awesome and on all the box art so get fucked and stay mad lmao
I’m trying to choose a faction. And right now I’m either favoring eldar or imperial knights or if it wasn’t so expensive admech. God I’m just so shit at painting that I’m very close to saying knights just cause of that.
The irritation at a black Black Templar may not be what you think. Space marines, regardless of origin, take after their gene father. Some go very pale and others pitch black like the Salamanders. Dorn has pale skin and white hair. I wasn’t there and can’t assess the specific situation, but I want to play devil’s advocate and point out there are more benign reasons someone would be annoyed at that.
Primarily guard here! You are mostly right, I am an American history fan focusing on the “old west” and made my guard army in a cowboy theme. My secondary army got skipped lol (Tzeentch Deamons).
To make you feel guilty about the male necron players. After you mentioned being kinda effeminate I had a moment of introspection and realized you had described me. 😂
As a Deathwatch player I am glad you did Marines in general. Quite literally I am stuck in that kid phase when it comes to the hobby. Oh look at that one with a freakin sword, BTE that dude looks AWESOME! GW Store opening day I am there in line and just could not decide on whom to play and then BOOM! There they are in black with silver arms and I found out this is the best, of THE BEST Marines from every chapter (even your homebrewed) and they kick alien ass. SOLD, and I have commited my entire Marine collection that wasn't painted to Deathwatch. Now to get some real games of 10th in before last week of May for my first tournament Also friend took over the store recently and praised me for being THE Deathwatch guy.
WWI enthusiast. Thanks lol. And th Lion fought back against Vashtor and Angron when he came back. He foumd his some through his new warp ability "forrest walk". When he does this, he traverses the ancient forests of old Caliban in a dream like state and then he walks out of it at his desired destination. He also 1 tapped Angron in the face with a shield bash. All of this happened in the Arks of Omen where Abbadon and Vashtor teamed up to find pieces of a mega weapon. And in the book "The Lion: Son of the Forrest".
32:51 is that a bum bag or sequinned undies on the outside of his trousers? This guy looks like he goes ribbit to the postman. He looks like he’s a pen pal with Noel Fielding and they share Byron poems. I’d play some 40K with this guy.
As a Sisters player, you’ve done me dirty, North. 😕 I wanted to play an elite, all female, Imperial force like the Amazonian’s of legend. I get why their breasts are overly pronounced in the lore, and let’s be honest, for the men playing them, this factor is appealing for obvious reasons. But there is so much more to them than that. 😔 Still, you are completely entitled to your opinion, and I respect it. I just wanted to put my two cents in.
You can’t be a unicorn of a woman 40k player who actually plays Sisters and say I did you dirty by saying most women don’t play Sisters c’mon now 😅 And yeah there is obviously a lot more to them than that but this was not an exactly serious lore video :) It’s designed for laughs rather than info. I’ll likely do a Sisters lore video eventually.
@@northernexile Well, tbf, I know 4 other women that play Sisters 😅 I’m gonna have to replay your video again, but I don’t remember any positives. 😂 Oh, also. Thought you might be interested to know. The appeal of Nids for most Women, is because they have the only unit in the game that gives birth. It’s not the main reason, but it is a factor. 😊
I can’t lie I did roll my eyes when you made the Dark Angle trader joke. Also I paint Death Guard (and I am very politically left) BUT I always thought if I was going to do a non-specific Chose god army it would be Iron Warriors.
as a templar fan (one of the majority) thank you for being so kind to us, most of us just wanna paint black space marines and play as the sororitas but space marines and male most of us probably saw helsreach and went "YES I WANNA PLAY THAT FACTION"
Heh. I didnt play 40k yet, but im getting there slowly. I collect: Ultramarines - i like blue/gold aesthetic, i like that they have roman motives, and i like empire-building attitude. I know for many Guilliman is not cool, but being great fighter is nothing if all your victories falls to nothing in the end. Empire need to be maintained to survive. When i play strategy games i like to have good economy, because then you can afford good army. Also after years of paiting tzeentch (aos) i love how easy is to paint space marines. Relaxing. Thousand sons - like i said i like blue/gold aesthetic, i also like magic. But i admit that it is painful for me to paint. It was obvious chocice after tzeentch in age of sigmar, i already have tzaangors. Im kinda sad that Magnus is not competent, and it takes ages to paint. I wanted to collect Dark Angels because it was first sm chapter i wanted to collect ever. But my friend already collect them, and i prefer Ultramarines and thats too much plastic. I want to collect Adeptus Mechanicus, i have few boxes, but then i say how small it is and full of details and i paused it. Maybe some day. I like science and cyberpunk. Army of cyborgs should be cool. Also models are so cool. I wanted to collect Tyranids, because i played zerg in starcraft, but painting many models can be painful. Also sometimes its nice to be bad guy on the tabletop. I wanted to collect Orks just for the lolz. Maybe later. Im sad i started from Age of Sigmar, my heart is closer to 40k. Also i would prefer chaos to be more free, not so mind controlled by chaos gods.
Hey, mate. As an Eldar player and former Dark Angels player I am triggered as feth, dude! Nah, all goods! As an Inquisition fan, uou forgot to mention us! Although they aren't quite an army I guess. Love me some Inquisition after reading the Eisenhorn trilogy and playing and DMing a crap ton of Dark Heresy. Uhh, I am just working on writing down the backstory of my Craftworld Dalorsia and wondering if you're still accepting submissions for Xenos homebrew factions? I'm just fixing up some of my Eldar minis for photos to be included with the submission. Anyway, keep up the great work, dude!
Only thing I'd add to Imperial Guard is: Many of them are ex-military. So many that MordianGlory has to constantly tell people he wasn't in the military. Also we love Underdogs and the Guard are the Underdogs in every fight they find themselves in. As for Necrons, I remember you saying in a hobby nightmare maybe over a year ago that your theory was that women are used to not being directly represented in more masculine Hobby's so they naturally go to factions that represent no one, the soulless robots and the space bugs.
The only encounters I've had with black templar players have all been poor. Online I've been called slurs by four of them and the one I met in person brought a couple knights with him and had corpses strung up on them, all of which had black skin. He must've noticed me staring because he gave me the most knowing smirk I've ever seen.
LOL.. great stuff. Pissed myself laughing as I am an Ork player and collector from Rogue Trader and the Halcyon days of second Ed. Yeh I probably resemble that. Cheers 😅😆
