The reason why the Larraman's Organ produces specialized cells instead of just have more or better platelets, is because just increasing platelet performance would result in more internal blood clots and thus strokes and heart attacks. The Larraman’s cells allow for rapid wound sealing without causing such problems. They also result in faster healing and less scaring because the wound is sealed by living tissue instead of a dead blood clot.
@SeanCrosser
@SeanCrosser 8 месяцев назад
I think they heal by basically attaching to the damaged tissue and replacing whatever cells are missing, because space marines scar LIKE HELL.

Yeah despite some Esoteric and odd stuff SM in 40K does have a lot of medical sense, for example Increasing in size isn't enough to make a SM, you need to Upgrade the person's Metabolism, His Body Structure, His Respiration and so on, so the long list of Organs being presented makes complete Medical sense because they are made to compliment each other and compensate for the increased in Size.

Re: the Omophagea: I have a theory that this is what contributed to driving Curze insane; It goes to reason that Primarchs would have this organ too, and it probably works better than a baseline marine's equivalent. It's been implied that during his formative years, Curze lived primarily on the occasional stray dog, and AS MANY PEOPLE AS HE COULD EAT. These were not regular people, either. They were violent criminals. How many memories of violent crime did that guy have floating around in his brain by the time he was found??

I have heard plenty of stories of some space marines using their acid spit. Most of the time it is after they are imprisoned and getting interrogated (A lot of people do not know that space marines can spit acid) or by a world eater using it in a melee fight.

The Omophagea is not complete nonsense. It just relies on the concept of genetic memory and the older scientific belief that memory was primarily stored chemically in the brain. Though it is often referenced with the idea that a marine gains someone’s memories by eating their brain, it’s more important usage is to gain an organisms instincts by eating any part of their flesh. This allows an Astartes dropped into a novel environment to quickly adapt to their surroundings. Yes, the underlying scientific theories behind this mechanism are no longer popular, it made some sense for a sci-fi franchise in the 1980s. Especially, one heavily influenced by the Dune novels which feature genetic memory prominently.

It’s also part of that super-science and literal magic mix. Of course a lot of this stuff is nonsense, Magic is inherent in the foundation of the universe.
@alastor8091
@alastor8091 7 месяцев назад
I dont see how the concept has fallen out of fashion. How else can you explain how animals or organisms have certain ingrained, not learned, behaviors? Their genes have a memory. Babies know how to cry when first born to attract the attention of their parents for safe guarding, bees instinctively know how to waggle dance, being able to describe the direction and distance of discovered pollen with complex movements, species of birds know mating dances to attract partners. It's something we don't understand, but we know it there. Somehow, some way, behavior and knowledge is coded into us.

Yes, Space Marines are designed to be highly effective and terrifying shock troops, but there’s a bit more going on in their design than just that. First thing to consider is that the primary source of military casualties prior to the late modern era was disease, so the Astartes robust physiology is a hard counter to that very real concern. The second thing to consider is logistics. An army marches on its stomach and the ability to eat anything combined with their extreme metabolic efficiency means that a chapter of space marines is far cheaper to operate than a regiment of guard despite requiring a higher initial investment. This means they can operate in the field for far longer periods and with greater independence than a mortal force. Finally consider the Black Carapace a.k.a. The Interface. It not only helps connect the space marine to his armor for mobility, it also integrates the armors sensor systems directly into the space marine’s awareness. Inputs a bioengineered man-machine interface organ, and likely allows for greater connectivity and control to ALL the technology an Astartes uses. Taken together I think the space marines are designed to be more than shock troops. They are designed to be a replacement for the Men of Iron. Humanity built its power base during the dark age of technology using armies of sentient robots. The Emperor knew he needed an equivalent if he was going to return humanity to galactic dominance. The Space Marines are a biological answer to that technological gap.

One of my favorite lore that involves the Space Marine's taste and being able to detect toxins, was in the book Storm Of Iron, where the Imperial Officer explains to the Imperial Fist Captain that the oxygen on this planet was toxic with radiation and every human should take these 💊 to retain a good health. The Captain looked confused, took a good wiff and said that the oxygen is totally fine. As the Captain put a 💊 in his mouth, he spat it out quickly and told the Officer the pills is what's poisoning them.

Thats also sorta not... NECESSARILY true, even for all normal base space marines. The black carapace, while "organic," I would argue is directly a cybernetic implant. It is, speficially, the thing that allows a space marine to interface, and CONNECT with their armor, the giant machine that they wear. Sorta like the neural interfaces in Halo, it allows spartans (and even some normal soldiers, with other tech) to DIRECTLY connect to their machines. That is a cybernetic implant

"Space marines are intended to be shock troops" I would like to add to that: FOR FIGHTING OTHER HUMANS. Space marines fight xenos NOW cause they are really the biggest threats out there any more in human space, but during the great crusade, the emperor knew that they would really just be needing to fight the human colonies that had either gone astray or wouldn't want to join the empire willingly. Space marines are a bit like Spartans from Halo in that way- yeah, they fight aliens, but that's just cause aliens happened to show up. They were not, however, made for that original purpose, or else they would probably be a lot different than they are now.

"Drop 100 soldiers from today vs 1 space marine and it would probably be equal" depends a LOT on the soldiers. Not in a "Delta force would totally shmokes that guy!" Way. More like you would need a 100 man unit with their standard attached heavy weapons like machine guns and mortars and rocket launchers to have a chance. Were talking about charitably, two eye slits that a modern rifle would have a chance of penetration on with enough sustained fire. All the while, return fire is literally exploding dudes. While theoretically possible a hundred rifleman could win, itd be a one in a thousand or more scenario. WITH that heavy fire support, I'd still probably put it 50/50

16:43 this is a really good explanation for why space marines use bolters and not something more practical for dispatching infantry (like a normally vehicle mounted heavy machinegun) using a full auto rocket launcher is that much more memorable, and when you only have 1000 marines per chapter and have to support the whole galaxy, making an impression may actually be more important than the damage they deal

A basic topic that lots of people really need to read up on more. So many people ask "would a Company of Space Marines beat modern day Earth" and SEVERELY underestimate the Space Marines. No, you cannot use .50 cal anti-material rifles, Javelins, Jets and Abrams against them, because they aren't going to fight you on even footing. Their Strike Cruiser will obliterate any military facility it sees from orbit. Your leaders will be brutally murdered by teleporting Terminator squads. Your soldiers, used to fighting exclusively other unaugmented humans, will be WOEFULLY outmatched and many of their tactics will be irrelevant as squads of Space Marines literally drop from the fucking sky in the middle of their positions and cleave them apart with chainsaw swords or, failing that, their bare fucking hands. If you're lucky, they will give you the chance to concede and join the Imperium.

So many augmentations yet their warrior culture while badass definitely slows them down or becomes a detriment. No matter how smart you are if you don’t commit to tactics and strategies than you’re not in full efficiency but let’s be serious we all love this. Than again the guardsmen cover that though if they were well equipped when dealing with astartes and other monsters such giving them bolters,plasmas,hotshots las,hellgun and anything armour piercing. Majority of those guardsmen are conscripted not even highly trained nor motivated yet they still hold themselves well. Very few are highly trained as the Cadians or skilled as the Catachans. As the saying goes without the space marines a year without the mechanicus a month without the guard a day the Imperium could survive.

100 normal humans vs a space marine would not be a fair fight on any level. A space marine weighs between 500-1000kg and can run at a speed of 50-70km in bursts, combine that with superhuman reflexes it would absolutely run around in circles of a company of modern soldiers. It would essentially just run at humans and break their bones and kill them, really annoys me that the lore rarely brings this up. Now, but regular humans in a fortified position with heavy weapons and then they might actually get lucky and kill one

The more common use of the betchers gland is to aid in digesting materials that would normally be impossible to digest. Apparently its useful for cellulose from plants, which normally passes through the digestive system intact. I dont really know what benefit there is to consuming cellulose, but it seems the space marines get a lot of them i guess..

Cellulose is actually the most common organic compound on earth in raw biomass! Humans can only digest cellulose thanks to our gut bacteria-it’s actually an inside joke that humans evolved as much of a flesh house for bacteria as we evolved for our own means. So putting that in 40k terms, it means that if you’re on a decently lush planet; you DONT NEED TO FEED YOUR ARMY. Your understanding of space marine combat is lacking: They are orbital drop shock troops wearing armor that was developed from the dark age suits used to do work inside starship plasma reactorss- these are environmentally sealed, they have jet jump packs, mag boots, built in combat radar, sensors, coms links and they have water & nutrient supplies, meds, &, combat drugs that can be delivered straight into the blood stream, the armor could survive modern H.E. or penetrator tank like it didn't happen and the suit augments the marines strength with no loss of speed (terminator armor does decrease speed but supply even more strength & durability and can use teleport beacons). Space Marines are so fast it causes a psychological stun to normal people watching them move at full speed (transhuman dread), They are all phenomenal marksman (the primary space marines weapon is the bolder, followed by the chainswotd) but the have far better vision and helmets with a combat radar & sensor package, And space marines when not in war train for like 20 hours a day every day, they are effectively immortal and space marine training/psychological conditioning has been developed for 10,000 years! The classic space marines engagement has the marines land in the capitol city in or around the enemy h.q., they storm out the drop pods and in minutes kill every ranking member of the command structure. If the top brass is in a bunker the regular marines find it and deploy teleport beacons and the 1st company appears inside the bunker all in tactical dreadnought armor (terminator plate)- "I have seen worlds burn and crushed nations underfoot, torn down the idols of false gods and slaughtered kings like cattle. Presume not to order me, tiny man, for I am war, and you are no more than chaff before the scythe..." VENERABLE TARGAS OF THE EXECUTIONERS TO GENERAL VON LITZNER OF THE JANTINE CATAPHRACTS

Akshually moment here to be a kill joy on everyone's day. Pacemakers don't give your heart a "boost". Their function is to keep a steady heart beat. With guns, it is better for ammo to expand or "explode" inside a body than just go through it. Internal expansion will do more damage and kill faster. Plenty of accounts with US soldiers on how their rounds went through enemy combatants and failed to immediately put them down. They were still gonna die but they were still alive long enough to be dangerous.

Space Marines were made for the great crusade and they were spared the fate of the Thunder Warriors due to the culture built around them and the fact that the Emperor ceased his direct involvement in governing the imperium. Oh emperor on the throne imagine the disaster, when the tyranids get their claws on that DNA, a primarch gland, even if incomplete, what can they do with that?

one funny thing about the memory eating thing is that they are not the only one who can do it. ive heard of some tyranid forms having this ability. no idea what the implications of that are.

There is also supposed to be some sort of logistical benefit as an Astarties doesn't need to sleep nor need separate rations.

Not necessarily the most powerful or efficient super soldiers in fiction but definitely one of the scariest!

Great video man, Keep it up! Space marines are pretty cool. They fit that niche of "super soldiers" that most settings need. But with 40k the levels get more and more insane over time

I find marines generic as they're supposed to be, but if any other faction got 1/10th the lore they do, they'd all be much cooler

The omaphageia or whatever it’s called,in my head it’s actually warp shenanigans with the surgeries just acting as a catalyst and type of imperial propaganda to dispute the warp origins of the ability.

In the original Space Marine novel from waaaay back, when the scouts were training their Preomnor, it came across that they can detect and analyse things like hormones and various combinations of chemicals from which they figure out history more than memories per se. Which makes a bit more sense.

Holy shit, only a year? And it's been a year already? 1: HUGE congratulations on reaching almost 50k, sounds weird but that's genuinely great growth. 2nd: Forgot you've only been around a year, feels like I've been watching you longer. 3rd: At the same time, feels like I found your Lil channel just yesterday and already it's a year later. Man time flies.
