Nasturtiums are a favorite of mine!! I shoved a few seeds in an awkward crevice behind a water spout and between a concrete pathway, they sprouted, and are catching up quickly with the ones I planted last month. Been growing and collecting seed for over a decade, and they only thing that changes is the variety and amount... Which grows each year!
Great video, the only thing I thought to add to this is annul herbs, many of which make beautiful ornamental plants. If you like to grow your own cut flowers then herbs can provide wonderful filler, foliage and scent for your arrangements. This year I'm growing Camomile, Feverfew, Florist Dill, Bronze Fennel, Thai Basil and Greek Cress.
Your garden is impressive! Your passion and hard work shows. As a gardener & I make garden videos too. I am extremely thankful for any tips and guidance you provide. I hope we can learn from each other as we grow! Never stop learning!
I totally agree l grew them for the first time last year Nastritium took off and became my first favorite flower there hardy and gorgeous, not to mention delicious.😅.
A fantastic selection of flower seeds to sow and it was great to see Tanya from Lovely Greens with her one selection Niall. Keep safe, well and happy gardening.
Another great video - and a lovely guest (or rather two - can‘t forget Maggie 🤣 ) And yes, I have to agree with Tanya: nasturtiums 👏🏻 We have some self seeding nasturtiums every year, but I also sow a whole seed tray of different colors and heights to pop in between the other crops
@@niallgardens - I'm currently steaming the compost to get rid of the fungus gnat larvae, then will start mine in modules (I normally just direct sow, but I want to be able to control how many plants I actually have in each spot.
was great to see you "lovely greens" I have you on my list to follow. Your one seed was interesting......my personal favourite plant of all time.....just love the smell of them....nastursnims xx
Greetings, Niall, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 Beautiful content, as always. So glad to see your garden is catching up with mine, as far as sunny 🌞 days ahead 💓
I love geraniums. I never knew they were easy to start from seed. Thank you for the info! And I'm so excited this year about my lavender. They're growing better than I expected!
Hello Niall. Really enjoy your posts and I just wanted to tell you that my husband recently made me a hotbin after we watched your video. He thought your instructions were so clear and helpful, really easy to follow. So thank you for that.
My lunaria has gone mad and I adore it. It's made the garden feel alive again after the winter and filled it not only with colour and flowers but bees, butterflies and all other pollinators
Great video Niall, lovely selection of seeds to sow. I like Tanya's suggestion of nasturtium, which has just reminded me, I have some in the fridge from last year, will get them sown. I don't know how you have the patience, to grow perennials from seed, I know I haven't lol I just go out and buy the plant. Allan
Sorry late watching, was camping among my garden plants ha ha. Great video, Niall what have you done, i was happy at weekend, had flower seeds all planted, and now you have reminded me of many i forgot, ha ha, will have to go purchase again. I love foxgloves too, childhood memories with them, have them in my front garden. Sadly the lavender from my mums garden died, will try again. Honesty is a flower i adore, its everywhere after i planted it last year, and the seed pods are even more beautiful in the sun. Niall, thankyou, i have saved this video, so much choice.
You are a pleasant fellow, you have a subbed fan. Ive just put out all of my flowers on my allotment, its traditional to have them next to the path. I have a double allotment and i built a mini house with all mod cons, awesome. Im the constant gardener. Mint, Lemon balm, strawberries, gooseberry, logan berry, black berry, red current, purple brocco, normal brocco, cauliflower, normal and purple, rhubarb, raspberry, cooking apple, 2 types table apple, 3 types of potatos, garlic, thyme, parsley, sage, cillantro, oregano, wild garlic, rocket, swedes, tomato's, red and white and onions, chives, broad beans, runner beans. Im looking to get some stevia and them im done.
Great suggestions! I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've come across your channel. It amazes me with how long I've been watching gardening videos on yt, I still come across new channels all the time?!?
I'm focusing heavily on vegetable and fruit production but I'd like to dip my toes in sewing flowers. I do have some wildflower mixes I will be tossing about this week! And I may try marigolds from seed. I did start some indoors but it will be fun! I do have nasturtiums as well!
Last year my nasturtiums both climbing and dwarf varieties were ravaged, nay decimated by cabbage white caterpillars. They were like an all you can eat buffet. Revenge possibly for covering the brassicas with enviromesh? 🤔
Every year I grow nasturtium, and every year as they get flowers on they get blackfly, do u have any ideas how it avoid this. Just found ur channel, its great!! And love an Irish accent.
Try knocking the things off with a stream of water or scrape them with your fingers. They usually show up before the good guys come in to take care of them. 👍👍 If a leaf has way too many, just take off the whole leaf, as long as you have plenty to spare! They bounce back quickly, but take a break in the heat, so that's when pests will really knock them out of the game and there will be no autumn flowers! Cheers! You can also try a tsp of dish soap(lemon scented Joy brand works great) in a qt water sprayer and spray them in the evening, just let it sit and rinse off before the next morning to avoid burning!
Another wonderful selection as always. I am a bit confused about Phlox, I thought they were a perennial as I already have some in my garden. Are there also annual phloxes?
Thanks for watching Honore! Yeah there are actually both annual and perennial Phlox plants - at the minute I have one single perennial Phlox in the front garden, but the ones I was suggesting this month are the annuals. Hope this helps!
Nastershams just get completely eaten up by caterpillars. I find them a nightmare. My favourite is lupins, I have a hundred of them sprouting and bumble bees love them.
