I’m a food addict and got off wfpb especially during covid. Now I gained excessive weight and have high blood pressure on meds. I’m doing Noom plus wfpp again for about a month. Weight loss is slow but I am going in a good direction. Hope I stay on track and get healthy.
They found that people who ate fried food at least once per week had a greater risk of both type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and that the risk increased as the frequency of fried food consumption increased.
@@puddlesplasher7 It fries the food using hot air. If someone adds olive oil is up to them, our fries come out just great without added oils (there is some oil in the fries aswell usually, even the ones that are fresh vs. the ones from the deepfridge).
Seems like more and more Cardiologists following Dr Cardwell Esselstyn research. Whole plant base diet. No meats, no oils, no fats, no processed foods. 👍🥕🍅🥦🥬🌶🥒🫑 Whole plant base the way to go. You won't hurt yourself.
Love the bicycle in the background. Bicycles are healthy exercise, fossil fuels free transportation and great for social distancing. Exercise combined with a healthy plant based diet for the win.
Except that bikes are made from plastics, metal, rubber, require oils to function and after a few years end up in landfill. Running is better for you and the environment.
Except that running has more of an impact on knees than cycling. Properly maintained quality bikes can last for decades and have a much lower carbon footprint to produce and use than autos.Lubrication needs are minimal unlike cars. Bikes as. transportation are much, much more eco friendly than cars- and offer a great way to exercise. I have lower back and knee issues so biking upright on my suspension bike is a great fit for me as a senior citizen. And ,unlike runners,I can easily outpace chasing dogs! Thanks Dr.Kim and Chuck C. for a great video!
@@howardfowler2255 because running is a high impact exercise it is great for your bones as the impact makes them stronger. The impact on the knees can be offset by having less weight bearing on the knees and joints. Yes bikes are far better than cars/trucks etc but that isn't saying much.
For lotsa fun go for a long run. And there's much to like about riding a bike. For vigor and vim,get wet- go for a swim. And please don't balk over taking a nice walk. Most of all ,eat a healthy vegan diet. On it,you'll thrive- so just decide to try it! That's all, folks!
I enjoyed this presentation with Dr. Kim Williams. I especially liked that he said to spend all your time in the produce section when you're shopping for food. Good advice though I haven't been able to completely adhere to that yet. I applaud Chuck for going back to that comment about the Keto diet being good for cardiology and having Dr. Williams reiterate what he meant when he said that. There are too many people who hear what they want to hear and would have been pleased to take that clip and spread it around.
Not only is a Ketogenic diet good for your cardiologist's bank account. It is also great for your mortician's income stream as well! Or course, with all this premature mortality, How is Death going to take a holiday?
I can definitely attest to this! I did low carb with some keto recipes. My blood sugar improved, I lost 30 lbs but my ldl cholesterol got higher and I had inflammation on my lower back. Just saying what I personally experienced
He lied. No new diet will protect against decades of the Standard American Diet within 18 months. It takes many years of not eating refined carbs, industrial seed oils, sugary drinks and lack of exercise to do that whether you are doing keto, carnivore, Mediterranean or plant-based diets. There is no magic pill to get you well overnight.
Thank you for this podcast and thank you Chuck and Dr. Williams for helping the public and being honest about diets and their consequences. It’s very refreshing.
@@Richard.Atkinson - you failed to grasp that Dr. Williams is a cardiologist and that heart medicines are keeping a certain subset of the population alive, including my 95 year old dad. Shame on you!
Cut the crap. Everyone has a choice to decide where they eat. If you choose to spend your cash on McDonald’s instead of rice and beans that’s on you. Dollar tree is 1 dollar for everything and I’ve always found raw beans and rice in them and veggies. I come from Poor family and you can eat healthy there.
@@andreahorsch286 I’ve never been to a dollar store so cannot answer your exact question. But I’d like to say buy grains, beans and lentils they can last in your pantry and use a pressure cooker to whip up a healthy and cheap meal even if you live in a food desert.
@@andreahorsch286 For an interesting "Dollar Tree" perspective, look for "Crocks in the Kitchen Dollar Tree Haul" they found a tremendous amount of WFPB food at dollar. However - it's not fresh food or organic - but frozen, canned, and dried legumes are certainly available at most Dollar stores.
@@andreahorsch286 Dollar Tree has an assortment of dried beans. I’ve gotten lentils, black beans, pintos, great northern, yellow split peas, and garbanzo beans there. They also carry brown rice. Their stock varies from time to time, but all their items are $1. If the particular store has a freezer section-most do now-they carry frozen vegetables. As mentioned before, Krocks in the Kitchen did a video on Dollar Tree finds.
Great talk!!! I did keto for a year because I wanted to see the hype and I a personal trainer. I would not do it again. Maybe a high protein diet plant based for a week to change the metabolism but that is it. My blood work was not good on the diet. I have been a true vegan for 2 years now, still not plant based and I have not lost any lean muscle tissue 🏋🏾♀️💪🏾🤗🚴🏿♀️🚶🏿♀️🐕
I had quadruple bypass heart surgery CABGx4 four years ago.. I have followed WFPB for 3 years and also work out on 13 different weight machines (40-55 pounds) at YMCA 3 days a week MWF. Exercycle at home.. Have lost 75 pounds, total cholesterol of 125, LDL = 55, type 2 diabetes went away A1c = 5.5%, Type 3 CKD chronic kidney disease went away, blood pressure 110/75 without pills, 60% blocked carotid arteries now clear. I am 80 years old. THANK YOU, DR. WILLIAMS!
Llipodema, fat in the bloodstream, slows the delivery of oxygen to the cells and organs for some 8 hours while the body processes the fats out of the blood. Three fatty meals a day and your body is seriously deprived of oxygen. This is stressful to our health and ages the body faster. That's primarily what is wrong with a high fat diet. Four French Fries are equal to one whole baked potato in caloric content. It's the fat in the French Fries from an immersion cooking method that adds so much of a caloric increase. Air Frying or Baking are preferable methods of crisping up foods that otherwise would be deep fried in fat.
Got on a statin, went wfpb, exercise everyday, now lost 45lbs, and taking half dose of bp med, best I felt in years!!!! Thanks to these men, Dr Michael Gregor and Dr Fung!! Fasting has been a huge part also
@@beautifullife4406 great point! Food chemistries are important to keep in mind. Thanks for these excellent recommendations of doctors to refer to. I'm more comfortable learning from credible sources and peer-reviewed journals
The problem with fried food is the industrial oil used to fry it in and the refined carbohydrates and big soda that normally goes with it. The patty is the least of the problems for health.
They do realize that these fatty/ greasy foods are cooked in seed oils. There is no such thing as vegetable oil. And when Americans switch to using seed oils is when obesity increased.
“It‘s very true: ‘The single biggest threat to public health generally speaking [is] high-fat fried food-filled standard american diet.’ The data is very very clear: We need to start with the basics of nutrition in order to solve these problems of health that we have.” - Cardiologist Dr. Kim Williams former president of the American College of Cardiology @cardio10s @pcrm
“The #USA is one of the worst in the world: The amount of money that we're spending compared to the outcome that is a ratio that is worse than any other developed country and many of the undeveloped countries.” - Cardiologist Dr. Kim Williams former president of the American College of Cardiology @cardio10s @pcrm
Hi! Chuck! I would like to ask a question. My mom suffers from anxiety attacks and her blood pressure goes through the roof when that happens. Is this a sign of atherosclerosis? Would her blood pressure go up if her arteries were "clean"? Thank you very much🙏
Everyone who is in panick has raised blood pressure. It's the natural fight or flight response. Your mum needs a therapist in order to identify her triggers and the underlying issues. Having said that, a whole food plant based is one building block towards managing her mental and physical health.
@@ludicrousone8706 thank you for your response 🙏. I do think it has a lot to do with her high olive oil/ cheese diet. My sister suffers from anxiety attacks ( worse than my mom's btw) as well and has no problem with her blood pressure that's why it made me think that my mom's diet is playing a big part in her situation. But what you're saying also makes sense. She is seeing a therapist and taking medication for it, but refuses to belive her diet is playing a role as well ☹
@@fabic1567 I'm glad that she's in therapy. As for the cheese could you steer her towards less cheese but higher quality as in organic goat cheese from a small dairy? The same for the olive oil, a high quality organic virgin olive oil for salads and to finish of a dish instead of cooking with it. I mean take a small step approach. As long as she has those panick attacks often, she will not give up on food that provide comfort.
@@ludicrousone8706 Thank you for your suggestions. Those products are very much part of her culture ( she is portuguese) and she creates an obstacle with every idea I present to her, unfortunately. In my opinion it should be done "cold turkey" as heart disease is not something to take lightly, but I understand everyone is different. I can't force her to do what I think is the right thing to do 😔.
@@fabic1567 sometimes people reject an idea that is presented to them by close family members which they would accept from a doctor. Our mums often don’t believe we know what we are talking about.
Avoid All meats!??. 100% , all types, including poultry and fish.. not even once or twice a week. Sure ,fried food of any form with oils, including plant based oils, not healthy.
The average medieval peasant ate meat three times a year, at the major Christian festivals. Entire populations exist without ever or rarely eating meat.
Fried food is available because it cooks up fast. It would be awesome if they could make air fried potatoes but it takes longer. Baked potatoes take a ton of time.
I ate french fries most days for years... just loved the crispy, salty fluffy goodness. I had the ass to prove it. Now only once or twice a year for the past 5 or 6 years. I still love the perfect french fry but if I eat them today, I want them again tomorrow .. So I just don't. Not for years.
Good interview, but I wish he had gone back to the inflammation topic he mentioned. I would like to know more about that since I've heard from keto people that grains cause inflammation, and keto diet improves inflammation markers.
With the talk at the end about blackened and air fried foods, I would also like a discussion on the affects of acrilimides on foods and our health or hearts. I keep hearing how bad they are for heart health, then I hear this Dr. talk about how good they are. So confusing
The inflammation comes from ingesting alien bacteria associated with animal based foods. It is the bacteria load they bring, dead or alive, that excites the leukocytes out of the bone marrow to do the mop up operation on those bacteria. Once their mission is accomplished they don't return to their place of origin. They bivouac in the joints, the blood vessels, the organs and other places as inflammation. Since the inflammation is the key to so many metabolic syndrome conditions that is the origin of the chronic diseases and conditions that arise from the invasion of the White Blood Cells.
We have to find a way to better connect communicate the impact of diet & fat consumption and Covid-19 illness and death vs racial biases in society. Not to diminish racial biases in society. Just want to use Covid-19 as a learning experience to help justify a change in diet in certain segments of society.
@@polentusmax6100 My point was serious. You only need to look to Africa and differing Covid-19 impacts on the population there. If it was only based on colour, then they would be impacted the same way as in the USA but they are not. I will postulate it has to do with diet. There are lots of reason why diet are different between the two continents but this is not the place to go into that. I am simply trying to help us learn from what is happening during this pandemic!
@@peterbassel6888 africa gets a lot more vitamin d from sun than northern hemisphere, vitamin d is important to your imune system. Blacks in usa may have a weaker imune system because the excess of melanin blocks sun absorbtion, while a pale skin dont. That is usefull in africa but harmfull in the north with low sun. And usa is the centre of the earth, while africa is the not.
@@peterbassel6888 high fat is not a issue, i was normal weight and i lost weight going to a high fat diet. Its when you mix sugar with fat (ice cream and procesed food) that you get fat. You can choose or the fat way or the sugar carb way. If you mix you get the standart american diet, and you will get fat.
If poly unsaturated fats are so good for you, why is eating the fast food fried in them not good for you? I know the answer, just wondering if this Doctor does?
1:33 Aaand I'm already done with this. Sir, do you think I'm stupid? I assume you think I'm stupid and cannot see that there is a lot of vested interest in people, particularly funded by the sugar industry, to make you think saturated fat is bad. Anyone who takes a cursory glance at the war between sugar and fat can see the potential for corruption on both sides, so don't act like only one side exists.
the real crux of the matter is.... THERE ARE institutions and businesses which it is their interest to maintain the status quo. 2. plant food is not that exciting, what it can do for a person is exciting, but talking about carrots and beans does not get everyones attention 3. like the words woke and conspiracy theorist....much of society shuts down when you talk about vegetables, veganism, rather than burgers and basketball. 4. one of the main subjects in our schooling should be research and the ability to validate sources....this is a big thing, once you know how, it would give the people of the world the ability to individually find great reliable sources of accurate information, and to rubbish inaccurate information given to us by unqualified zealots. This should and may make people turn away from their television sets, their newspapers, and definitely most social media for information on important matters....and give them the ability to search for and comprehend proper valid studies and results...and give them a certain amount of critical thinking ability.
It's all about the money. If a person is healthy, the rich man cannot make money. Just like smoking. The body can't use fat. You need to get rid of the GMO products. A 1200 lb person we can make more money off that person than a 100-pound person.

Fried foods are dirty fat while plain food such as an avocado or olive oil avocado oil ( to cook with because of it’s smoke point) are good to use. Red meat 🥩 causes cancer and increases the likelihood of Dementia . I now have not had a seizure in over 3 years so why change something that that’s not broke. Keto diet will break you.
I am doing partial fasting, which is basically going keto, for 3 days a week. I've been doing it for three weeks and have lost 15 lbs. since I started doing the water fasting. I have an obese friend who has diabetes, swollen legs and feet. I'm afraid of recommending my food-free keto water diet approach to hims since I learned that diabetics need to eat 4 small meals a day, with 100 calorie snacks between meals to try and level out their insulin. But he is desperately fat, really needs to lose weight and the partial fasting works for sure. Help! He doesn't know moderation.
