As a Grid player it's not such a simple game. It's broken as fuck but yeah for newcomers it's easy to teach basic combos as there are no motion inputs.
While BB Tag is a good one to play, Battle for the Grid is also worth mentioning for its similarities. From what I've seen, BB Tag, Marvel VS Capcom Infinite, and Battle for the Grid look to be the closest to Project L.
@UCMZm6wJ-LU3AqwOphvmpLRA Fair. I mean yeah characters were not "too" diverse and the combos did lead to "T.O.D" like combos but the creativity you can do in the game is something you can mess around with similar to BB tag. I mean you can say that about Dragon Ball FighterZ but that's its own mess and chaos in its own right lol
Waves of nostalgia hit me everytime I see Skullgirls and BBTAG. Having team RWBY in BBTAG was enough to make me want to play fighting games and Skullgirls was the game I bought to entertain me in the meantime. My skill never developed to the level I wanted in those games and as much as I want to give them another go I only have so much time for fighting games.
MVCI and Power Rangers battle for the grid are by far the most similar to what project L is going for so leaving them out is kind of weird. I understand those games community’s are like smaller than ants though.
@@charliericker274he said “pick your poison on which one you want to play” he never said anything on MVCI specifically having the active tag system that is in Project L or anything like that. It’s not that big of a deal just thought I’d bring it up because MVCI and Power Rangers BFTG don’t get nearly enough love for influential mechanics they helped introduce.
@@lostd0m as a BFTG player I appreciate you mentioning it here. It's an amazing game. Super broken but super fun I have about 1700 hours on it just on PC, and I played Xbox before that. It's a wonderful game highly recommend and it's cheap.
I've played most of these game (I'm even playing BBTag rn as of recently and freaking love it lol) but similarly Battle for the Grid has somewhat the same things (and even more crazy shenanigan) you can do with the tag system in BFTG and I played the heck out of that game as it was growing and receiving it DLC waves. It was great.
project L most definitely takes inspiration from BBtag, and whilst I'm not sure how much I can recommend BBtag due to its player base being... not exactly the healthiest, skullgirls I definitely recommend, it's a game that's really gone the distance in development, from nearly dead, to a mainstage evo game 10 years after its release
Glad to see some love for my main game Skullgirls and I encourage people to play it but just a warning for those who are unaware. When you play Skullgirls your goal is not to win but to break you opponents ankles with the most disgusting war crime of a mix up that they either quit playing or learn something even worse to do to you. This is not a game for the feint of heart and only those who pray to the right God at the right time whether it be the god of low, the god of throw, the god of overhead, or the dreaded god of cross up. You will be forced at some point to pick one of those gods and picking the incorrect one will lead to untold consequences. Do not fear though as time moves on you will learn the power of each god and pick the correct one.
BBTAG is absolutely my junk food game, I know it sucks, but it's just fun, although every session I have on it ends in one of two ways, I have fun and want to play it again, or I hate it and take a break for a month.
I would just recommend playing whatever you find visually pleasing and interesting for me that was guilty gear, you will naturally pick up on the fundamentals of fighting games that can be tranfered to others, offense, defence, neutral, mixups, punishing ect, playing something that you find intresting and fun will honestly be the best way to gain experience as you'll likely want to play more.
I'm really excited for this game because I love seeing Riot actually expand upon their lore and franchise. Leauge Of Legends had a fantastic setting and characters. Seeing projects like Arcane, The Ruined King, and now Project L expand upon it is something I'm glad to finally see. But let's just hope this game doesn't become as Toxic is LoL is.
I have the same excuse to play BBTAG. Project L and that I watched Rwby last month and it’s amazing. However, I haven’t played it much yet. I have it on ps4 and switch, and I’m afraid the community could be to small. Let alone the switch version not having rollback netcode. Anyway, I might play it a bit later. Btw, I’m a fan of your Es-Ruby team!
no mention of battle for the grid's tag-based, simplified attack type, really fucking solid fighting game that appears to touch on a lot of the mechanics mentioned in the dev talks for project L
I would say MVC: Infinite is a very good one as well. Have a feeling it's gonna end up being the most like Project L in the end and it has a small but pretty loyal playerbase with decent netcode.
Many have mentioned them, but here's a list of VS. games most similar to Project L (based on what we've seen): Blazblue Crosstag Battle (2v2, Dynamic Assists, Cross Combos, Auto Combos, Mobility) Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite (2v2, Tag Combos) Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid (3v3, Tag Combos, Mobility) Skullgirls (2v2 option, Custom Assists (pre-match)) Dragonball FighterZ (3v3, Auto Combos) Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (3v3, Mobility)
Power Rangers is also another great one! Personally I don't know anything about that game apart from a few things that seem actually incredibly similar to how project L functions. I might play that if I ever want something else other than Strive (if I have the Money to buy it)
Marvel V. Capcom 2 or 3 are great choices, but if you are like new. I’m talking just now wanting to get into fighting games new. Your best option is Power rangers Battle for the grid. Team based, simple inputs, and very fast gameplay. Plus, it’s *FREE* ,Newbie friendly, and you’ll grow exponentially within the realm of simple input based fighting games, also having you more than ready for Project L
Really surprised Power Rangers wasn't mentioned Feel like it'll be even more similar than the ones in the video since it has all those features plus simple inputs as well
I'm surprised that there are several comments that talk about and suggest playing Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite even though it's presentation is questionable. Gameplay is very good though. Would bet that preparation for Project L would cause a resurgence of the game.
If I got a cent for the amount of times I have tried to convince my friends to redownload BBTAG and fight me I would be able to buy a much better fighting game like Melty Blood Type Lumina
Ngl bbtag has been my main game since... Literally when i picked up fighting games up until recently with melty so im exited to play this game for maybe a week before quiting because it doesn't have waldstein or a funny cat
Personally, from what I've seen the game looks like it plays like Battle for the Grid with a bit of marvel and bbtag influences, and like... The speed of granblue
Ok before i watch the vid im thinking bbtag mvci cause they're both 2 character tag games with active switching and maybe skullgirls and dbfz Edit: pretty much correct though it was kinda obvious also out of any tag game I love bbtag the most even though im not the biggest fan of tag games
Never thought I'd see the day when MVC3 is viewed in a good light. Then again, I only ever viewed it through the Angry Joe lens, and he's not exactly a fighting game afficionado
I've played all MCV games except Infinite, I want to get into Skullgirls but I'm experiencing crashes in some game modes, including training, which is kind of a big deal
Before watching video. Tag system seems a lot like BFTG, so I would say go play Power Rangers. I haven't played MVCI but people say that too. But also, just go play Power Rangers, it's really really fun even if it's very scummy at higher levels. Edit: Grid only has 1 assist per character (with exceptions that the assist changes when a character accesses an install, such as Eric and RJ) so maybe MVCI is a better pick but Grid should be tried by everyone at least.
Ngl people are really sleeping on Power Rangers. It has very similar movement, autocombos, and simplified inputs while also having an almost exact replica of the tag system as we see it in project L. If anything, people should be playing PR to get ready
As much as i am into fighting games now at this point, i skip on project L, since i was pretty much a hostage for years in LoL and this game and community killed my overall competitiv mindset and selfworth. No chance i touch that and deal with those people again.
I appreciate the comment section shilling Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid. It's by no means a perfect game but it's so fun and I recommend that everyone at least try it.
No love for Rising Thunder? It's fun, honest. And from actually the same people who are making project L. And can the other games brag that you are not a beating pillow on the day you downloaded it!?
@@p99chan99inputs are simple and the combos can get nutty. There’s a lotta character, and by extension, combinations to choose from. It’s got a full dub and you can individually decide whether someone speaks Japanese or English (turn on Japanese Ruby, for the love of your ears), and it’s just a nice fun, fast paced game which has a lot of its own charm to it despite being a bit of an asset dump.
Yeaaaaaaah, I'm still not picking up BBTag ever again. That game was just STUPID. Also echoing what others have said, MVC:I really is probably the closest to Project L. Since that was the topic of the video, just saying Marvel Versus series in general just seems kinda dumb. Yeah, UMVC3 might have so many more things better (other than the net code) but playing either UMVC3 or Marvel 2 won't give folks the right impression when it comes to Project L.
