The overview presented in this video related to a visit with a GI doc sounds well conceived to me. Now, let me tell you about my recent experience seeing a GI doc for the first time. Scheduling a colonoscopy was long overdue, my constipation gradually had gotten worse, and also I was suffering from issues with swallowing and getting food into my stomach. So, time to see a GI, right? After several weeks attempting to get through to the practice (via phone, email and a personal visit to the office) I was allowed an appointment. At the time of my visit I first was seen by the doctor's resident or fellow. She exhibited what I'd call a "breezy" manner which only made me feel that my symptoms and feelings weren't being taken seriously. The doctor herself had a much more distant demeanor and wondered aloud why I even would make an appointment to see her absent any test results she could examine. Performing a physical examination on my person never came up. She wanted me tested before allowing as to what might be causing any symptoms. Overall, she exhibited an extremely clinical attitude and showed no empathy nor concern for what I might be experiencing. I'd also characterize her as not particularly communicative nor interactive. With her staff we scheduled tests for the doctor to perform. The colonoscopy went well, but the doctor had to abort the endoscopy due to an inability to pass the scope beyond my throat. (Weeks later she told me she wanted to make a second attempt using general anesthesia). While in the recovery area minutes after I awoke the nurses made every effort to get me to leave the hospital despite my not feeling steady enough to walk. Eventually, they booted me out of the area and gave me a beaker in which to throw up on my way out of the building. After due consideration I decided not to maintain a relationship with this doctor and to schedule a visit with a GI doc at a different facility, beginning the process again. That visit awaits.

I had similar experiences and in the end I figured out myself what was wrong that no doctor or nurse even considered: it is histamine, my old springtime problem.I didn’t realise until now that it can also cause severe stomach problems, like diahhrea and nausea and even vomiting.

I am seeing a digestive disease Dr. on Tuesday. Is this a GI Dr.? My cologaurd test came back showing blood in the stool. I’m 62 and have not had a colonoscopy done. Not, for the lack of trying 3xs . I wasn’t able to keep any of the prep fluid down at all. My sister just passed away this past October 2023, to carcinoma cancer. She was diagnosed in August 2023. On October 18th she passed away due to complications from the surgery. First surgery lasted 12 hours. They hit an artery and brought in a specialist to repair it. 2 days later she was airlifted to Gainesville, Fl hospital. She underwent 5 hours of surgery and bleed out. I’m not looking forward to this appointment and I’m so terrified that’s it’s caused me so much anxiety that I’ve contemplated on canceling this appointment. Any recommendation on how to remain calm until I find out exactly why the test showed blood in my stool.
